A/N: extra long chapter for you guys! And by extra long I mean 1500+... ENJOY! <3
~
At least we get to leave this place for three weeks." I say, trying to brighten the mood.
"Hn." Sasuke says as he drives us to school. Our parents made arrangements for us to go to and from school together. Yay.
"Hawaii, right?" I ask him.
"Then France." He responds, and I smile.
"I always wanted to visit France; Paris, the city of love!"
"Hn."
"Killjoy." I frown.
"Hn."
"Wait... I'll be away from the hospital for a couple weeks." I groan. "Shishou will kill me."
"Shishou? You mean Dr. Senju?"
"Lady Tsunade, yes." I reply.
"Why do you call her that?" He asks.
"Long story short, I performed a surgery and saved a man's life by dangerous but very effective solutions. She said that she now respects me." But probably not after these next three weeks.
"I don't get it." He says as we stop at a traffic light.
"Get what?" I ask him.
"Why you have everything yet you choose to work at the hospital. You don't need to. And on top of that, you overwork yourself." He suddenly says.
"I do it because I care, and I want to. Yes, I'm rich, but I will always help the less fortunate." I respond, and he 'hn's.'
Thankfully, we arrive at the school as we fall into a silence. We get out of the car and walk inside the school, then separate to our lockers.
"Have you heard the news? Haruno's an Uchiha now." Muttered whispers gossip as I pass through the hallway. I ignore them and go to my locker. I grab the needed materials and walk to Ino's locker.
"So, you and Sasuke? Make any babies yet?" Ino asks, and I immediately slap her, color rushing to my cheeks.
"No! No way in hell! Fuck you, pig!"
"I'm sure Sasuke is dying to fuck you." Ino retorts.
"OH THAT'S IT-"
"What's going on here?" A familiar voice says. I roll my eyes.
"Sasuke, control your woman! She's terrorizing me!" Ino yells.
"I think you got it the other way around, pig!"
"Nuh uh, forehead!"
"PIG!!!!!" I yell, but am quickly dragged away by muscular arms.
"Hn. You'll thank me later." Sasuke says, walking away.
"Oh my god, I can't stand him!" I mutter to myself, walking behind him and to class.
I sit down next to Sasuke as soon as the bell rings, and muttered whispers fill the classroom. Kurenai-sensei enters and tells the class to settle down as the announcements play. Afterwards, she calls out names for attendance. I frown once not hearing my name in the 'H'. No Sakura Haruno.
I raise my hand, but Kurenai-sensei still reads on. "Sasuke Uchiha."
"Hn."
"Sakura Uchiha." She says, and the class erupts into whispers. "Sakura Uchiha." She repeats, a little louder.
"Here." I respond, then look away from her and start drawing on a piece of paper with fury in my eyes.
Oh, dad's gonna get it now.
But still, a noticeable blush reaches my cheeks. I can feel everyone, even Sasuke, looking at me.
"Alright, class. So today, we will be working with the partners that you were assigned with on the previous project. Actually, they will be your partners for the rest of the year." There are tons of groans, me included. "Your assignment is to complete all of the vocab for unit seven. Get to work." She says, and I hesitantly turn to Sasuke, who turns towards me. We both pull out our vocab and work on it together.
We finished in under two minutes. And all the answers are correct. So now, I have to sit in class for thirty more next to my supposed husband, Sasuke Uchiha.
Husband....
I blush at the word, but decide to grab the book in my backpack. I open to a page and start reading about how to cure bronchitis. I can't help but feel Sasuke looking at me the whole time.
"What... what do you know about it?" He says, snapping me out of my thoughts and reading.
"Hm?" I ask, not entirely hearing his sentence.
"What do you know about bronchitis? It's what Itachi has, isn't it?" He asks again, and I nod.
"Yes, your brother has it. It is possible to be cured, and he is in its last stages. His treatment was to take prescribed cough suppressants, a bronchodilator, and oxygen therapy every Tuesday and Thursday." I respond.
"So... will he make it?" He asks, and I notice the fear in his eyes.
"Of course." I respond. "Do you really think I worked and studied for countless hours, days, years even, to lose someone to a curable disease?"
"No."
"Then please, do not question it. I'm Lady Tsunade's apprentice, and I sure as hell won't let anyone die on me." Except for that one time. I gulp at the memory.
"HARUNO-SAN! WE NEED YOU IN THE ICU, STAT!" A nurse screams, and the hairs on my body stand on end as I turn towards her, determined emerald eyes taking in her panic.
"What is it?" I ask, already immediately following her.
"The patient has a severe closed head injury and impaled shards of glass in the abdomen, arms, and legs." She quickly says, pushing me inside the room. Disregarding fresh surgeon clothes, I immediately walk to the injured patient and start treating.
It's not working. "WE'RE LOSING HIM!" A fellow surgeon says.
"Stay calm, Henry." Another surgeon says. "It will do no good to the patient if we panic."
"How can I?!"
"Get out." I tell Henry. "We cannot use your expertise here if you're panicking."
"What?!"
"GET OUT!" I tell him, and he nods, exiting the room. I sigh, taking a step back and assessing the patient again. "This is a lot more serious than we thought. His abdominal trauma is terrible, due to the shard of glass in the area. And if we take it out we need to do it quickly, then try and stop the bleeding. And the continuous bleeding around the scalpel area does not help at all. If we don't do something fast he will have a hemorrhage."
"Hai. Francis and I will work on the abdomen." A surgeon says.
"Avery, that leaves you and me for the head." I say, and he nods. We split up and start our work.
It's still not working. And my fellow surgeons are losing hope. "Come on! Put everything you got into saving this man's life!" I tell them, and their determination comes back.
"Hai, Haruno-san!"
One long, painful beep. We all look at each other, sadness and pain in all of our eyes.
"I-I'm sorry I failed you all." I say, tears starting to form in my eyes.
"Haruno-san. You didn't fail us. In fact, we would've given up a long time ago if it weren't for you. His chances of life were raised by your determination." Avery says.
"But that's just it. He's gone now."
"We did our best, Haruno-san. And I'm sure his family will understand." Gwen says.
"Yeah!" Francis agrees, a hint of a tear on his face.
I wipe my tears away. "You're right. This was just my first loss."
"The first death is always hard to overcome." Avery says, and I nod.
"I'll go inform the family." I say, and my fellow surgeons bow to me. I take off my uniform and change then step outside, and immediately the wife and daughter jump up.
"How is he?!" The wife asks.
I lower my eyes. "I'm sorry. We did everything we could yet we could not save him. He died of a hemorrhage and abdominal trauma."
"Oh my god." She says, covering her mouth as tears fall down her face. The daughter comforts her. I start to turn away. "Y-you did y-your best, r-right?"
"I always do my best. A patient isn't just another face to me." I respond, turning to look at her, tears starting to form on my face. I turn away again, walking away.
But I heard the quiet "thank you."
"Sakura." Sasuke says, jarring me out of the memory.
"W-what?! S-sorry." I respond, turning away from him and wiping the tears from my face.
"I asked if you wanted to go to the mall tonight with Naruto, Hinata and I. They're making me go and I didn't want to go by myself."
"... S-sure." I reply, and he nods. It's not like I have a choice in the matter. Hinata and Naruto will find me and personally kill me if I don't hang out with them. *Sweatdrops.*
The bell rings and we both head to Lady Tsunade's class, side by side.
A few hours later, Sasuke and I are in the car, driving to the mall to meet Hinata and Naruto.
"I can't believe Kakashi-sensei gave us so much homework." I groan, bashing my head against the window.
"Hey! Don't kill yourself!" He says, sweatdropping.
"Sasuke! You just showed emotion!" I sarcastically exclaim.
"You won't be seeing much more of it. Hn." He responds, yet something in his eyes tells me the opposite.
"Sure." I reply as we park near the mall entrance. "Where are we meeting them?"
"Should be-"
"TEME!!!!!" Our familiar male friend squeals as we get out of the car. "SAKURA-CHAN!!!"
"Baka!" I respond as Sasuke 'hn's.' "Hinata!" I add, walking past Naruto and his outstretched arms and right to Hinata. I hug her tightly and notice Naruto pout. Hinata and I look at each other and giggle, the four of us walking into the mall.
