Chapter 26
The sun had just begun to rise, painting the sky in hues of pink and orange, but the dorm remained cold and dim. The three of them sat in the living room, the silence as suffocating as the guilt and regret that lingered between them. Taehyung sat on the couch, his body tense, his gaze fixed on the floor. His clenched jaw and trembling hands betrayed the storm raging inside him. Beside him, Jungkook stared at Saga's bracelet in his hand, his thumb brushing over its delicate details as if he could summon her back by touch alone. Jimin sat on the floor, knees to his chest, his face buried in his arms. He had barely spoken since that night, barely eaten, barely existed.
The air was thick with unspoken words until Taehyung, his voice strained but steady, broke the silence. "We need to stop," he said, his tone low and clipped. "We can't keep living like this."
Jungkook glanced up at him, his eyes bloodshot but still holding a flicker of defiance. "Stop what, hyung? Pretending this doesn't hurt? Pretending like we didn’t destroy the only people who truly loved us?" His voice cracked, and he clutched the bracelet tighter. "I can’t stop. I can’t stop thinking about how much I hurt her… how much I hurt Saga. She didn’t deserve any of it."
Taehyung swallowed hard, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he struggled to keep his composure. "None of them deserved it," he said, his voice almost a whisper. His eyes darted to the window, his face contorted in pain. "But they’re not coming back, Jungkook. Not after what we did. You think Rizin could ever forgive me? The things I said to her… the way I humiliated her in front of everyone. I killed every ounce of love she had for me with my own words."
Jungkook’s grip on the bracelet faltered for a moment before tightening again. "You don’t know that," he said, his voice trembling. "Maybe they just need time. Saga said she loved me, hyung. She said it so many times. Love like that doesn’t just disappear." But even as he spoke, his voice carried the weight of doubt, the knowledge that his actions might have shattered something beyond repair.
Taehyung turned to him, his eyes blazing with suppressed anger—not at Jungkook, but at himself. "And you think love can survive what we did? You think Rizin can forget the way I shouted at her, the way I called her... things I can’t even repeat now? You think Saga can just erase the way you made her feel worthless? Or that Helina can forgive being torn apart by Jimin’s jealousy and ego?" His voice cracked at the end, and he quickly turned his head away, biting his lip to stop the tears threatening to spill.
Jimin flinched at Taehyung’s words, his head sinking further into his arms. "Stop," he murmured, his voice barely audible. "Please… stop."
Taehyung’s gaze softened as he looked at Jimin, but his expression was still hard. "You can’t keep running from this, Jimin. None of us can. We pushed them away. We broke them. And now..." His voice wavered, but he forced himself to continue. "Now, we’re breaking everyone else. The hyungs are suffering because of us. The fans are starting to notice. We’re ruining everything."
Jungkook’s eyes filled with tears as he shook his head. "But what if they’re waiting for us to fix it? What if they’re waiting for us to prove we’re sorry? I can’t just give up, hyung. I can’t."
"Prove it to who, Jungkook?" Taehyung snapped, his voice rising before he caught himself and took a shaky breath. "You think Rizin, Saga, or Helina are sitting somewhere waiting for us to figure it out? They’ve moved on—or at least, they’re trying to. And we should let them. If we love them, we have to let them go."
"I can’t," Jungkook whispered, his voice breaking. He stared at the bracelet in his hand, his tears falling onto it. "I don’t know how to let her go. And I don’t think she’ll ever forgive me for what I’ve done. Not after how I treated her. But I also can’t stop hoping… because if I let that hope die, I’ll die with it."
Jimin finally looked up, his face streaked with tears, his eyes empty. "I don’t even have the right to hope," he said, his voice hollow. "I tore her apart, and for what? Because I couldn’t handle my own insecurities? Because I was too proud to admit I was wrong? Helina deserved better… and now she’s gone, and I’ll never get the chance to make it right." He covered his face with his hands, his shoulders shaking with silent sobs.
Taehyung leaned forward, his voice softer now, though it still carried the weight of his pain. "Jimin, we can’t change the past. But we can’t let it destroy us either. We have to be better. Not for them—they’ve made it clear they don’t want us in their lives. But for the people who are still here. For the hyungs, for the fans, for ourselves."
Jungkook shook his head, his voice trembling. "How, hyung? How do we even start to fix this when everything feels so... broken?"
Taehyung let out a shaky breath, his hands gripping the edge of the couch. "We start by standing up. By showing the people who still believe in us that we’re worth believing in. Even if it hurts. Even if it feels impossible."
Jungkook wiped at his eyes, his expression a mixture of determination and despair. "I’ll try," he said quietly. "But I won’t stop hoping, hyung. Not yet."
Jimin’s voice was barely a whisper as he spoke. "I don’t know if I can. I don’t know if I’m strong enough."
Taehyung placed a hand on his shoulder, his touch firm but reassuring. "You’re not alone, Jimin. None of us are. We’ll figure it out together. But we can’t keep hiding. Not anymore."
The three of them sat there, their pain shared but no less raw. The road ahead seemed impossibly long, but for the first time, they took a step forward—not away from their grief, but through it.
