Chapter 4

Shino looked away in something akin to shame as Naruto held his shirt in trembling hands. Shino was extremely fit and stood at 6'0 which made what Naruto was seeing horrifying. His upper body was littered with bruises and knife marks that were still bleeding slightly. "Who-" Naruto's voice was cut off as her eyes widened, angry flaring as she tore Shino's shirt off to expose the full extent of the damage. "Who did this to you!?"

Shino bit his lip to keep quiet as Naruto ran off to the bathroom to get her medical kit. Shino now had questions for her as she didn't seem phased by taking care of his wounds, she didn't curl her nose at the pungent scent of blood nor did she coddle him with soothing words that would do nothing to lessen the sting of the disinfectant. Her eyes were narrowed in concentration as she wrapped his bandages with ease before pulling away once she deemed him ready. "You seem used to this," He commented and watched as she shifted away her own gaze before meeting his again, this time with determination.

"I don't know if you've heard about me but I was raised in the foster system. I emancipated myself and got access to my inheritance," She spoke softly. "Before that I was beaten day in and out so I had to get used to hiding the bruises, hiding the marks with make-up and a fake smile. I got really good at cleaning up the wounds."

Shino remained slient and held Naruto's hands before opening up with his troubles. "My parents and older brother did this to me," He spoke quietly. "I'm not like them, I don't share their personality traits. It had even gotten to the point my father demanded a DNA test for me. They just can't understand why I'm not like them, why I'm not interested in the same hobbies. So their frustration resulted in this. It's been on and off for the last couple of years."

"Do you need somewhere to go?" Naruto's voice was dark as she looked up at him. Shino was stunned for a moment and tried to pull away but Naruto's grip was surprisingly strong. "Shino do you need somewhere to go?"

"Even if I need somewhere I have nowhere," He mumbled in return but Naruto's eyes blazed with anger.

"Don't you dare say that! You have somewhere here!" She insisted as she moved her hands to his shoulders. "Think about it but for now let's just have a little snack," She smiled at him gently before packing away the medical things and headed into the kitchen to start on a small meal that was meant to comfort Shino. Taking into account his aversion to strong smells she had to use the minimal seasoning on certain proteins to mute the scent but enhance the flavor. It was a big spread all around in an effort to comfort Shino which worked as the male dug into everything with a satisfied expression.

"Do you like it?" Naruto was eating her meals much more slowly. "I always wanted food after a rough time," As she said this she seemed to realize something odd before her expression went solemn. "You called me to get away from them didn't you?"

Shino paused his eating before nodding in confirmation.

"Don't your friends know what happened?"

"No, they don't, they wouldn't care," His voice sounded so certain about it.

"So what made you think that I would?" Naruto asked softly.

"Because you cared, when we first met you asked questions I haven't heard from my friends in years. Everyone assumes I'm fine, that nothing bothers me. But with you, you saw through me and compromised so that I would be comfortable. I can't turn that away because I'm selfish and want to open up to you if you'll have it."

Naruto's face turned soft. "Oh Shino," She hugged him tightly and the Aburame held her close to his body. "Of course, you can open up to me. I want you to."

After the meal Naruto reluctantly allowed Shino to go home. "Promise me you'll not keep us as a secret," Naruto was trembling as she held onto his shirt. "Whatever this is between us don't ignore it when we get to school tomorrow."

"I would never do that to you Naruto," Shino reached out to wipe her tears as Naruto cried softly. "I care about you too much for that."

They were both fractured people but together they filled the cracks missing from each other.
