The trio arrived at the outskirts of a giant volcano and begin to make their way up. Mery-Berry was swinging a stick around like it was a sword.

Donkey: ( sniffs ) Ohh! Shrek! Did you do that? You gotta warn somebody before you just crack one off. My mouth was open and everything.

Shrek: Believe me, Donkey, if it was me, you'd be dead.

Mery giggled as she started walking ahead of Shrek and Donkey. They reach the top of the climb and host themselves up and over the ridge.

The trio gaze out into the crater. Mery's eyes sparkled in excitement at the Dragon's keep towered before them, a dilapidated castle, burned and blackened. Perched on a rock pinnacle, it was surrounded by a terrifying lake of molten lava. A single light shines in the window of the tallest tower. Dark clouds block out the blue sky above them. Thunder strikes and crows circling the castle can be heard. Its all very ominous.

Shrek: Sure, it's big enough, but look at the location. ( Laughs )

Mery-Berry laughed at Shrek's joke. She and Shrek jumped over and approached a bridge, with Donkey joining in behind them. While Shrek and Donkey were talking, Mery-Berry bravely walked across the bridge and got to the other side. She then watched with amusement as Donkey and Shrek went across the bridge.

( A/n: Haha, I'm sorry, but this scene is way too funny for me to write down without laughing my butt off. I don't own the vid )

When Shrek and Donkey saw Mery-Berry, she gave them a cute little wave " hello ".

Shrek: How long were you here for?

Mery-Berry: The whole time. Let's go!

The trio started walking towards the castle.

Donkey: Cool. So where is this fire-breathing pain-in-the-neck  anyway?

Shrek: Inside, waiting for us to rescue her. ( Chuckles )

Donkey: I was talkin' about the dragon, Shrek.

The trio start making their way through the hallways of the dragon's dark and spooky keep. Shrek is wary, while Donkey is downright terrified and Mery-Berry was completely unafraid as she continued to swing the stick in her paws like a sword. Only an occasional torch lights the way. The passages are littered with bones, armor, and weapons, presumably belonging to the many unsuccessful knights who tried to rescue the princess.

Donkey: ( to Shrek and Mery-Berry: ) You afraid?

Mery-Berry: ( happily: ) Nope!

Shrek: No. But ( shushes Donkey )

Donkey: Oh, good. Me neither.

Mery-Berry: ( to Donkey, cutely: ) BOO!

Donkey got spooked and gasps. Mery-Berry giggled in response.

Donkey: Mery, don't scary someone like that!

Mery-Berry silently giggled.

Donkey: 'Cause there's nothin' wrong with bein' afraid. Fear's a sensible response to an unfamiliar situation. Unfamiliar dangerous situation, I might add. With a dragon that breathes fire and eats knights and breathes fire. It sure doesn't mean you're a coward if you're a little scared. I sure as heck ain't no coward. I know that.

Donkey crashes into a pile of knight remains, knocking over a skeleton whose helmet lands on Mery, trapping her inside. The skeleton head falls off and Donkey gasps.

Mery-Berry: Who turned off the lights?

Shrek: Donkey, two things, okay? Shut. Up. Now you and Mery go over there and see if you can find any stairs.

Shrek grabs the helmet and puts it on. Mery-Berry have him a nod before she ran off to look for stairs, separating herself from Shrek and Donkey. After a minutes of looking for stairs, she heard Donkey screaming " Dragon! ". She then see that the dragon was chasing after Donkey, stomping on the pile of knight remains in its way. Mery-Berry quickly started chasing after the dragon and Donkey, with the stick in her paws. Donkey barrels towards Shrek with the dragon close behind him. Shrek see that Mery was charging straight towards the dragon.

Shrek: Donkey, Mery, look out!

Shrek manages to grab Donkey and Mery-Berry out of the way just as the dragon breathes a fireball. Donkey and Mery-Berry dropped to the floor to avoid another fireball, which manages to singe the tuff of Donkey's tail. The dragon is just about to eat Donkey and Mery-Berry when Shrek grabs ahold of its tail.

Shrek: Got ya!

The dragon begins to swing its tail back and forth with Shrek still holding on, then launces him into the air. The dragon now focuses it's attention on Donkey and Mery-Berry, breathing fire at them, forcing them onto a stone bridge. The dragon knocks down portions of the bridge until Donkey and Mery-Berry is left staying on a lone pillar.

Donkey: No. Oh, no, no!

The dragon growls and Mery stood her ground with a brave expression.

Donkey: Oh, what large teeth you have! ( The dragon roars ) I mean white, sparkling teeth.

The dragon pauses, looks at him inquisitively, and then smiles.

Donkey: I know you probably hear this all the time from your food, but you must bleach, 'cause that is one dazzling smile you got there. Do I detect a hint of minty freshness?

Mery-Berry: ( goes along with Donkey ) ( To the dragon: ) Yeah, you're just as pretty as my Mama!

The dragon appears to be flattered by Donkey and Mery's compliments.

Donkey: And you know what else? You know what else? You're- You're-

The dragon leans forward and gazes at Donkey and Mery-Berry, revealing that she was a girl dragon.

Donkey:- a girl dragon! Oh, sure! I mean, of course you're a girl dragon. You're just reeking of feminine beauty.

Mery-Berry: ( nods ) ( happily: ) Yeah!

The dragon flatters her eyes at Donkey.

Donkey: What's the matter with you? You got something in your eye?

Dragon blows a heart shaped smoke ring at Donkey, and blows a smaller one at Mery-Berry.

Mery-Berry: ( confused: ) Huh?

Donkey: Ohh. Oh. Oh. Man, we'd really like to stay, but you know, I'm, uh... ( coughs ) I'm an asthmatic, and I don't know if it'd work out if you're gonna blow smoke rings and stuff. Shrek!

Dragon picks them up by their tails in her mouth, causing Mery to drop her stick, and happily carries them off. 

Mery-Berry: Wee! We're flying!

Donkey: No! Shrek! Shrek! Shrek!

Dragon then carried them in the keep's throne room, which had treasure and jewels. Mery-Berry was gently placed in a soft pile of blankets in a balcony of a large spacious room.

Mery-Berry was confused at first but she then yawned. She then curled into the pile of blankets and took a small nap.

( Slight time skip )

Mery-Berry woke up to the sound of the door of the room quietly opening, she smiled as she saw Shrek step out of the door and ran to him to hug him.

Shrek: ( silently: ) Mery?! Where's Donkey?

Mery-Berry points to the center of the room, Shrek then sees what was happening, and quickly knows that Mery was too young to see what was happening.

Shrek: ( to Mery-Berry, silently: ) Okay, I'm going to rescue Donkey. You stay with the princess and keep an eye on her until I get back.

Mery-Berry: Yes, sir!

Mery-Berry then walked out of the balcony and sees Princess Fiona.

Mery-Berry: ( cutely, to Fiona: ) Hello!

Fiona: A talking kitten? What are you doing here?

Mery-Berry: My Uncle Shrek is going to save my other uncle from the dragon. He assigned me to keep an eye on you until he gets back, your highness.

Fiona: Well, it's a pleasure to meet you...

Fiona bends down and looks at the name that's on the collar's name tag.

Fiona: Princess?

Mery-Berry: This is actually my Mama's collar. My name's Mery-Berry, Mery for short.

Fiona: It's nice to meet you then, Mery. I'm Fiona.

The two then heard roaring coming from inside the room. They then wandered into the room when Shrek grabbed them as he ran past them and has Donkey.

Donkey: Hi, Mery! Hi, Princess!

Mery-Berry: ( happily: ) Uncle Donkey!

Fiona: It talks!

Shrek: Yeah, it's getting him to shut up that's the trick.

Mery-Berry chuckled as the three adults gasp as Shrek suddenly stops, having reached the end of the balcony Shrek spots a fallen column that has formed a sort of slide. He jumps on it just as Dragon tries to bite them and slides down it.

Mery-Berry: Woohoo! Paws in the air! ( Raised her paws )

Donkey: No! Put those cute little paws down!

Unfortunately there is a crack in the stone and it hits Shrek right in the groin. His eyes cross and as he reaches the bottom of the slide, he groans and stumbles off. Dragon chases after them, the chain of the chandelier still unraveling. They are chased by Dragon through a large hall, her chain looping itself around multiple stone pillars as Shrek zigzags around them. Dragon ends up in front of them and breathes fire. Shrek dodges the fire and runs away, leaping over several rows of chains. He came to a halt. Mery-Berry was standing beside Donkey and Fiona with a calm smile.

Shrek: Okay, you three, head to the exit! ( setting down Mery-Berry, Donkey, and Fiona ) I'll take care of the dragon.

Fiona grabbed Mery-Berry's paw as the three headed to the exit. Mery-Berry quickly and bravely crossed the bridge once Fiona had let go of her paw and once She and Donkey had taken their eyes off her for only a second.

Donkey and Fiona were about to panic when they saw that Mery-Berry was gone, but then they saw that she was already on the other side of the bridge.

Donkey: Young Lady, we need to put a bell or something on you!! You're going to give Uncle Donkey a heart attack if you keep taking off!

Mery-Berry: ( didn't hear a word Donkey said ) ( yells: ) What?

Mery-Berry then sat down and watched as she waited for the others. The three adults sprint as fast as they could out of the castle and onto the rickety bridge as Dragon breathes a huge fireball behind them. As they reach the middle of the bridge the fire burns the bridge and it snaps in half. Mery-Berry gasped as they hung onto the bridge as they are swung to the other side. Donkey, unable to grab on, falls off but Shrek catches him by the tail. Fiona screams in terror as Dragon flies over the boiling lava to get them. Suddenly the chandelier jerks Dragon back. The three adults quickly climbed up to safety. Dragon lets out a defeated cry, then gives a sad whimper.

Mery-Berry and Fiona were the first to climb out, Fiona gracefully slides down to the bottom of the volcano while Mery did a flip to the bottom and landed on her feet beside Fiona.

Mery-Berry: That was... awesome! Let's do that again!

Donkey & Shrek: ( off-screen: ) No!

Fiona: You did it! You rescued me! You're amazing!

Behind them Donkey tumbles his way down the hill. Mery-Berry turned around and silently giggled.

Fiona: You're- You're wonderful! You're...

Fiona turns to see Shrek slide down the hill and crash into Donkey. Mery-Berry covered her mouth to try to hide her silent laughter.

Fiona: A little unorthodox I'll admit. But... thy deed is great, and thine heart is pure. I am eternally in your debt.

Mery-Berry cutely tilted her head in confusion.

Donkey: Ahem...

Fiona: And where would a brave knight be without his noble steed and his young apprentice?

Fiona reaches down, squeezing Donkey's face and gently petting Mery-Berry's head.

Mery-Berry: What's an apprentice?

Donkey: I hope you heard that. She called me a noble steed. She thinks I'm a steed.

Fiona chuckled and Shrek rolls his eyes.

Fiona: The battle is won. You may remove your helmet, good Sir Knight.

Donkey gasps and makes eye contact with Shrek, while Mery-Berry was slightly confused about Donkey's reaction to Fiona wanting Shrek to remove the helmet.

Shrek: Uh, no.

Fiona: Why not?

Shrek: I...I have helmet hair.

Fiona: Please. I would'st look upon the face of my rescuer.

Shrek: Oh, no, you wouldn't-st.

Fiona: But, how will you kiss me?

Shrek: What?

Donkey: Oh, boy. Um... ( To Mery-Berry: ) Kid, please turn around and cover your ears, you're too young to be seeing this.

Mery-Berry: ( happily: ) Okay!

Mery-Berry turned around and covered her ears, causing her to not hear what was going on behind her. After a few minutes, she sees Shrek walking past her without the helmet on and with a upset Fiona over his shoulder. Donkey then walked to her and gave her a nod, signaling to her that she can uncover her ears.

Mery-Berry: Why is the princess upset? Does she need a nap?

Donkey: No. I'll tell ya later, come on. Let's get the princess to Lord Farquaad. I'll carry ya.

Mery-Berry: ( happily: ) Okay, Uncle Donkey.

Mery-Berry climbed on Donkey's back and they started catching up to Shrek.
