Chapter 27: His Decision
Manvi's POV
I couldn't sleep at night after hearing his confrontation. Certainly, it was my decision to get married to him but after that, he only disappointed me. Many times he had hurt me, and because of him my life was at risk. If Sameer wouldn't have been there I wouldn't have been alive by now. He filled the emptiness in my life and fulfilled all my desires. The love which I wanted for him, it was Sameer who gave it to me.
He learned the truth and I suppose to be happy about it but I had been feeling a bit saddened about it. I sighed deeply and closed my eyes trying to sleep.
As the sun's rays touched, I opened my eyes. I freshened up and walked out of the room. I moved to the kitchen and found him preparing the breakfast for himself. I moved to the fridge to take out milk but he snatched it from my hand and said "I will do it myself"
His behavior was hurting me when it supposes not to affect me. It seems like I still had emotions attached to him. He moved out and I prepared the coffee for myself. I poured it into the mug and commenced out.
He quickly eat breakfast, looked around, and seemed to be searching for something. He moved to the chest of the drawer and pulled out his gun. He placed it into the cover and called someone "Yea.. no Sir, I don't need any holiday afterall duty means everything to me and I am proud to protect the country"
He walked out of the flat and shut the door with a bang.
Later in the evening, I had been sitting on the couch and thought about everything that happened yesterday. The doorbell rings, I moved and opened the door. I was shocked to see my parents standing there. I grew anxious seeing them, did Aarav tell them the entire truth?
Nandini smiled "Mannu.. surprise?" she asked, Manvi had a sigh of relief.
She hugged me and I wrapped my hands behind her "Mumma.." I was seeing her after so many months.
"Let us in," Karan said
I parted the hug and stepped aside. They entered inside and settled on the couch. I smiled "When did you return from London? How is bro?"
"He is perfect, we just came a few weeks ago and got you a lot of gifts," Nandini said with a smile on her face. She forwards me the bags, I held them and kept them at a side.
"I will get tea for you," I said and moved to the kitchen. I prepared the tea and heard Aarav's voice. I grew conscious of this, I placed the cup into the tray along with some snacks on the plate. I walked out and saw Aarav sitting on the opposite couch, he looked at me for a moment and then turned away.
I placed the tray on the coffee table, and Aarav picked it up and handed the tea to them.
"Aarav just saw your newspaper Article about the mission we are so proud of you son," Karan said
Aarav smiles lightly "With all your blessings," he said touching his feet.
I feared he might reveal the truth to them. Nandini glanced at me and asked, "Manvi why are you so silent? Is everything okay between you two?"
"Everything is fine maa.." Aarav assured her
"Great so this weekend both of you are coming home for family dinner" Karan instructed.
"Sorry Papa but there is a big case I won't be able to come but Manvi will surely come" Aarav promised to send me.
"I understand son.. duty comes first," Nandini said with a smile and Aarav spoke to them as if nothing happened between us. He was behaving normally, talking to them with the same respect and love.
Aarav moved to the bedroom to change and a piece of paper fell from his pocket. Nandini picked it up and something caught her attention. She opened it and was left shocked after reading them.
Karan looked at her reaction and questioned "What's wrong?" she gets tears in her eyes and hands the paper to Karan.
He read them and his eyes opened wide. He glanced at me and I gulped down my throat. Nandini got up from the couch and came closer to me. She asked, "What did you do??"
"Mumma..." I said with hesitation.
"I had explained to you before marriage don't be impulsive but you never listen to me. Your impulsive behavior is too much Mannu.. speak up what mistake have you committed? Why do you want to divorce him" she yelled at me.
I shook my head negatively. Karan eyed her "Manvi your silence means you are at fault"
"obviously Karan, Aarav is such a decent man. He is an honest cop why would he be at fault" Nandini said and eyed him with a questionable look.
Just then Aarav steps out of the room, I eyed him with tears in my eyes. "Maa.. Papa" he said softly
They turned towards him, Aarav picked up the divorce papers and walked toward us. He said "I am sorry you had to find out this way, I was about to speak to you about this"
"Aarav this.." Karan said
"It's not your daughter's fault, I am giving her a divorce," he said leaving me completely shocked at my place.
"you? But why?" Karan questioned as he never expected him to take such a decision. He looked at me for a moment and then at Karan.
"After thinking many times, I had taken this decision papa. I am not perfect for your daughter. My duty is such that there is always risk in her life and I can't lose her life because of me." Aarav said
Nandini held his hand and said, "Aarav we know your job is risky but we also know you love our daughter so much and will go to any extent to protect her... this.."
"Sorry maa but I can't see her dying in front of my eyes," he said with his eyes turning moist and he was only staring at me. I was taken aback as he hadn't revealed anything about my betrayal.
He approached closer to me and held my hand. He placed the divorce paper on them and said "Your happiness always matters to me.."
Karan couldn't believe his ears, he moved to Aarav and confronts him for his action "Aarav this is not right, you can't divorce my daughter for this reason"
"Papa.. I have told my reasons and I don't regret it" he said in a firm tone. Nandini had been noticing my reaction.
She held Karan's hand and said "Let's go Karan"
He was shocked at her action "Nandini"
"Karan, it was our daughter's responsibility to handle her marriage. They loved each other and married with their mutual decision, we won't interfere," she said firmly
I looked at my mother silently, I was a mistake, and if I told her she will break her ties with me. Nandini caressed my head and said "Our home doors are open for you always but mannu if you had committed a sin and you are wrong I won't support you nor let your father support"
She understood Aarav had been lying, after all, she was a mother. They left the house and I closed the door.
I glared at him and shouted, "Why didn't you tell me you are giving me a divorce?"
Aarav was taken aback by hearing my words. He smiled sarcastically "It was you who wanted to end our marriage, Manvi, you betrayed me and gave my place to someone else. You are now free to go"
My jaw dropped down, he picked up the pen and forwarded it to me "Sign and free me from this marriage where there is no love just pain"
"Why did you lie to my parents?" I questioned him.
"I never lied just didn't tell the entire truth," he said meaningfully. He moved to the bedroom and I glanced down at the divorce papers.
I sat down on the floor with a thud, this is what I wanted but now I am feeling devasted by his decision. I could feel my heart shattering into pieces. I glanced at his signature and read the terms and conditions of the divorce. He had not mentioned anything about my betrayal or Sameer in it.
My phone buzzed, I picked up and it was Sameer's call. He then texed "I have planned a huge surprise for you sweetheart.. missing you"
I took a deep breath and eyed the divorce papers again.
