As I pace around the plane and unfriendly looking lobby of the Royal Melbourne Hospital I feel an empty and unsure feeling lurking inside my stomach and slithering around my body as a cobra entangles it's prey before it injects its lethal venom into their bloodstream. As I look around I notice how bear the lobby looks. The walls are a plane and simple white, made of plaster I'm guessing, and look so unnaturally clean that you would thing someone actually gets paid just to come  around every half hour and clean these walls. You would think someone would try and cheer up such a dull and empty room with some flowers, or paintings and so forth but then again, I guess it would do no good in a place stricken with fear, worry and grief. I take a seat on one of the cold, smooth black lounge and check my cell phone. It's 12:33am. I've been here since 3:30pm yesterday but I'm to confused and worried to be tired. As I'm sitting, a small girl, maybe six walks into the room clinging to her mothers hand for dear life. Her hair is done in two little neat braids that dance around her head and neatly finishes behind her head and settles neatly on her shoulder. The little girl peeks at me from in between her mothers blue jeans with eyes blazing with curiosity but is interrupted by a nurse walking up to her mother.

"Miss. Rain I've been expecting you." Says the nurse in a careful but rushed whisper. Miss.Rain stands up quickly still holding her daughters hand.
"Is he ok?" Says Miss.Rain. The nurse  ushers her into the corner of the room whilst the little girl stays standing in the middle of the room like a deer in the headlights. She looks around and our eyes meet but only for a split second. I want to comfort her but there's nothing I can say that would be appropriate. Suddenly Miss Rain falls to the floor in tears and curls herself into a ball. "JESSIE, MY BABY!" She cries. Suddenly I stand up realising who this woman is, and as I do I feel a surge of adrenaline creep up my spine.

August 10th 2017

As I walk out of the courthouse and down the marble steps my I can't help but smile and let the liquid in my eyes spill over with joy. It was a case full of emotions and night restrained from sleep but it was all worth it. Another win for the one and only Kate Branch Lawyers Office! But as I put my arm out for a cab I transition back into my serious and concentrated self. The excitement shall have to wait because it's 10:45 and I have a meeting with one of my clients in a quarter of an hour. It sounds like an interesting case. Jessie Rain, age seventeen, is pressing charges on his step dad , Craig Rain, for death threats, beatings, strangling and verbal abuse. Finally the cab comes to a stop and I step onto the sidewalk nearly forgetting to pay the driver. As I walk towards my office I start to shiver as the winter air battles it's way through my coat. I finally manage to open my office door and I'm greeted by warm air once more. I take a seat on my dest and wait. 12:00. It's very quite and I'm slightly anxious to get a move on. 12:30. Jessie is now half an hour late. Finally at 6:30 I give up and head home. I'm pissed off but I'm to tiered to think so I fall into my king bed and slowly fall asleep.
3:00am
"Miss.Branch! This is the Victorian Police, we need to speak with you!"
I step out of bed and throw on my bathrobe whilst still in a confused state although when I open the door the cool air does help snap me out of this state for a while.
"Miss.Branch we need to know if you have any information about Jessie Rain."
The mention of my client doesn't help with my confusion so I give the officer a confused and baffled look. "We found this in his pocket ma'am." The officer holds up a piece of card that I instantly recognise as my buissness card. Only my buissness cars isn't red. And then it hits he. My hand flies to my mouth while I gasp. The card is covered in blood.
