CHAPTER 12 - Commander Shadis

"Prepare for everything." Erwin said before he climbed up to his horse. He looked down at his wife before Hanji smiled at him.

"Be sure to get every detail that you will hear." Hanji said while smiling at her husband. Erwin smiled before he nodded at her.

Hanji could not go with them for she would take care of their child. Erwin would be going to meet the former commander before him, Instructor Keith Shadis.

"Everybody ready?" Erwin asked as he looked at his back, checking if everyone who would go with him was ready already.

Everyone was fine with their horses, before each of them nodded at him. Erwin looked back at Hanji before he nodded at her. "I'll see you and John later."

Hanji smiled and nodded, before she walked towards an area that was a little bit far from where they were. Watching the group of people go while riding on their horses.

"Instructor Shadis, may we excuse you for now?" Erwin said, as he walked into the scene where Shadis was training the 109th Training Squad of the legion.

They caught the attention of the new trainees, as they saw the whole group walked onto the place. They were in the lands of Wall Maria, where the trainees were being trained and where they were traineed before as well.

Shadis looked at Erwin, surprised at first but had his composure after a while. He closed his eyes before he sighed deeply. He faced the 109th Training Squad who was busy admiring the famous group of soldiers that were in front of them, before Shadis tried to get their attention.

"Training for today is dismissed!" He shouted, as the Special Operation Squad, along with Erwin, watched the trainees as they cheer around the place with what Shadis had announced. "After all of you ran 50 laps on the field!" He added that put a halt to the trainees' cheers and causing the veterans to laugh.

"You sure don't change Instructor." Jean said as he faced their former teacher when they were still trainees.

Seeing Instructor Shadis made them remember a lot of things that happened before. How Eren and Jean fought in the cafeteria, how Sasha was made to run on the field until she cannot run anymore, how all of them were shouted right in front of their faces and how they enjoyed the training before, before they realized that their training was actually really far from the reality of the experience that they have been through.

It felt nostalgic and sad, as they remembered those who left their place, whose life were taken away by the titans.

All of them were lead by Shadis to an office before they decided to sit on the vacant chairs that were surrounding the empty table. Shadis sat in front of Erwin, who was at the other end of the table. As Levi was on Erwin's right, and Armin was on Erwin's left. Mikasa was next to Levi, and Sasha was next to her, on Instructor Shadis' left. Jean was next to Armin, as Connie was next to Jean, sitting on the chair at the right side of Instructor Shadis.

"So, what made you guys come here to see me?" Shadis started, as soon as he noticed that everyone was already prepared for a long talk.

Erwin cleared his throat, before he looked directly onto Shadis' eyes. "I do believe that you are the only person I know that was close to Grisha Jaeger sir." He said before he paused, causing Shadis' eyes to grow big for a moment. "We wanted to ask you if you knew anything about him, and the basement of their house."

Shadis looked down to the table as he crossed his arms before closing his eyes, as if remembering everything about that one man. He cleared his throat as well before he faced everyone that was on the table, looking at him, waiting for him to talk.

"I know nothing about the basement." He said, but still, all of them remained quiet. "But I knew a few things about him, that might help you even if it's just for a bit." He continued.

"Please, tell us everything, Sir." Sasha said that caught the attention of Shadis, causing him to smile as he slowly shook his head. "You've matured, Ms. Blouse."

Sasha clenched her fist that was on her lap, below the table. Feeling quite happy about what Shadis had noticed about her. Shadis looked up to Erwin before he started to speak again.

"Before he got to the insides of the walls, I was on my horse, on my way to return into the walls after an expedition when I saw him." He paused. "I asked for his name and his whereabouts, but he told me the only thing that he could remember was that his name was Grisha Jaeger, and that he was a doctor. I brought him into the walls and looked for his name and family but nothing like his name was registered as a citizen of every wall."

"But still, he continued to live inside the walls without remembering anything just like what he told me. He admired what the scouting legion was doing, until I became a Commander. He believed in what the Scouting Legion was doing, more than I did. He believed that what you guys were doing were worth it, even though I think that we don't make any progress at all."

"After some time, a plague occured in the cities, and many citizens died over that matter. No one could find a cure to the plague, not until Grisha did."

"He became known to the cities, and after that, he married Carla, Eren's mother. They happened to meet when I took Grisha on her own small restaurant."

Shadis' story was cut by Armin, who suddenly asked a question regarding the matter. "Sir, if you'll excuse me. I have a question about the cure." He said.

"Yes? What is it?" Shadis said, before he placed his elbows on the table as he rested his face on his intertwined fingers.

"About the plague sir, and the Ragako Village." Armin started. "I've read it in a book, that he was also the one who cured the people on that village."

Shadis nodded with what Armin had said, but Armin was not done yet. His curiosity was not answered. "It was also said in the book that the medicine that he used there was different from what he used to the other citizens."

Shadis nodded again, before he closed his eyes and started to think on what happened that time.

"Sir, if you know, may you tell us what kind of medicine did he give to those people in Ragako Village?" Armin said, Shadis could see in his eyes that he was really looking for the answer.

With Armin being eager to know about the information, Shadis was convinced to tell them the truth.

"I went with him before, to that village." He started. "I didn't really know what was the exact cure but, I saw that he carried a lot of injections back then."

Armin and the others' eyes grew big, with Shadis' words, it seemed that they already knew about what were the injections that Shadis' was talking about.

"But back then, he told me to go back to Wall Maria, and take care of the Scouting Legion. I told him I could assist him while he was curing the people but he didn't want to." Shadis paused as memories flashed to his mind. "He forced me to go back, and he said that he could handle it himself. Then after that, he returned to Wall Maria and married Eren's mother after a few months. I didn't know exactly how he cured the people there."

Erwin nodded as a response to Shadis' story. He seemed to be satisfied with the information they got from their former Commander.

But still, as a new information was registered in their files, another set of questions were passed to them again. A more confusing set of questions and a complicated one, that only Grisha Jaeger, or the titans themselves could answer.

"Erwin..." Shadis called out as he looked up to Erwin.

"Yes sir?" Erwin asked as his response, with his furrowed eyebrows showing his curiosity on what the former commander might tell him.

"Grisha believed in the scouting legion..." He started before he paused as he closed his eyes before facing down to the table. "I know I am too late now, but I believe in you guys."

Erwin nodded as Jean, Connie and Sasha smiled. Armin was still thinking about the questions that popped in his head, while Mikasa and Levi simply listened to their conversation, before Shadis' told them his final statement before their meeting ended.

"Save the humanity from the titans."

Mikasa was sitting alone on the chair beside the table, as she was flipping the pages of the book that Armin gave her.

They were inside the walls of Wall Sina, and they were staying in their home like quarters. The others were already sleeping inside their rooms, while Mikasa was feeling the cold night breeze that was coming from the window while she was flipping the pages of the book. Moonlight served as her light, while she was staring at the pages thoroughly.

She was busy thinking of things that made her a little bit surprised when she heard a voice and footsteps that was coming from the stairs.

"Why are you still awake?" The man said as he continued to walk down from the stairs.

Mikasa turned around to see who spoke, even though she already knew who it was.

"I was just... I was just looking at the pages of the book that Armin gave me." She said before she turned to the book again, and flipped it to her favorite page. Showing the photo of the sea, that Armin and Eren had always dreamt of seeing.

Mikasa knew that Levi was walking towards her because of the sound of his footsteps. She felt him stood at the back of the chair on where she was sitting, before she felt the hands of the man holding the chair where her back was leaning on.

"What about that?" He asked, while looking at the photo on the said page where Mikasa was looking at.

Mikasa smiled unconsiously as she started to think of the idea of various things. "I want to go here." She said while smiling, as she was feeling the rough paper through the palm of her hand.

"I want to go here with you." She said those words again, but was combined with another set of words that made Levi a little bit surprised. He could not get enough of the girl's straightforwardness.

"But we already went there." He said as soon as he composed himself from the little shock he received.

Mikasa looked up at him as he saw her genuine smile. As if everything went on slow motion when the wind blew on them as their hair swayed with the movement of the wind. Moonlight shining on them, that made him see how the light reflected on her eyes.

"I want to go again, when everything's fine. When we got no worries anymore." She said, before she paused and looked back at the book.

"And perhaps, as a family." She whispered enough for Levi to hear. As her point finger touched the picture of the sea, she did not see or knew how surprised Levi was with her words.

He did not get what she meant exactly, if it was as a family having a familial love, or as a family having romantic feelings for each other. But a thing popped into his mind. If she wanted to go with him as a family with familial love, why would she want to go there with him? Only him.
Levi felt an unfamiliar feeling in his stomach with what he thought.

Mikasa's eyes grew big and her body started to become stiff, as she felt the man's arms behind her slowly wrapped her from the back. Hugging her tightly for no reason, Mikasa was shocked.

"H-heichou..." She said as she placed her right hand onto Levi's left arm that was around her neck. She could feel the weight of his head that was resting on her left shoulder as the place were conquered by silence.

Mikasa felt the warmth of his hug, that later on made her head lean on his. Levi's eyes were closed, as he was thinking of things. He could not think properly at that moment.

He lifted his head up a little, that made Mikasa face him before their eyes met. With Levi slightly facing the open window, Mikasa could see the unmasked eyes of his that was only looking at her. Straight to her eyes.

The hug was slightly on loose before his hands started to travel towards her face, passing through her neck. He fixed her hair that was on her face, and placed it behind her ears.

Mikasa felt the warmth of Levi's hands on her cheeks, before she placed her right hand onto his left hand, and leaned her head onto it while her eyes were closed.

She opened her eyes as Levi slowly closed his. Moving closer to her that made Mikasa closed her eyes once again.

She felt his lips touched hers that gave her small tingling feeling coming from her spine. It was her first, and she did not mind giving it to him.

Levi slowly moved his thin lips, as he felt the warm and soft lips of Mikasa. He did not know what got into him to do it, especially when it comes to that. A thing that he knew nothing about. It was his first as well, and he could not think of a reason what urged him to do it to her.

Levi felt Mikasa's hands traveled to his nape, before he felt that she pulled him closer. Levi did not retreat, as he let himself get pulled by her, feeling the warmth of her moisted lips, giving a tingling feeling in each nerve that was existing in his body.

Levi decided to pull himself a little bit, grasping for air same as the girl in front of him. As the breathless soldiers' lips parted ways, their eyes met for a second, before Levi looked away as he felt his cheeks heat up.

He slowly pulled his hands, placing it to his sides before he stood up straight and  looked down to his feet as he felt Mikasa's eyes was on him.

"W-we should go and get some sleep already." He said, before he tried to look at her eyes again that made him look away for the second time when he saw how firm her stares were.

Levi turned around, and started to walk back upstairs to his room as Mikasa's eyes were fixed, watching his every movement.

Levi closed his door before he leaned on it. He slowly let himself slide down and sit on the floor, as both of his elbows were resting on his knees and both of his hands were on the back of his head while he was facing the floor.

"What the fuck did I just do?" He whispered to himself.

Mikasa on the other hand unconsciously placed her right hand on her lips as she was staring blankly at the air while the wind was playing with the strands of her hair.

The thing could not sink into her mind. It was like her brain was battling if it was just a dream or not. But then, even though her mind was battling about it, it stopped when she thought of something.

I kissed him back.

NOTE: Lol at me who haven't type any new chapters yet! Sorry guys! T.T I got hooked up with watching animes and reading fanfics. And hating myself because I only watched Noragami lately!

And yeah, my purpose of writing for chapter ahead is for this situations. I still have 2 chapter saved tho.
