Chapter 11

CHAPTER 11 - The Land Where Our Kind Was Abandoned

---

"Annie..." Eren called as the girl entered to his room once again. It was not new to him. In fact, he was expecting for her to come already. To cry on him, or sometimes to kill time inside his room, doing nothing.

Annie did not respond as she continued to walk towards the insides of Eren's room, carrying Eren's breakfast.

"Hey." Eren said with the inner part of his brows upward as he looked at her. "Talk to me." He said softly.

The girl looked at him with her dull eyes, but Eren was surprised when those eyes expressed a soft feeling while she was looking at him.

"Eren..." She said as she placed his breakfast on the table beside his bed. She looked back at him before she smiled faintly. Making him more surprised that he could ever be. "I'm sorry. I really am."

Eren looked at her as he stood up and started to walk towards her. "Don't you ever try to cry again." He said, assuming that Annie would start to cry at him for the thousandth time.

Annie's smile grew bigger as she looked at him. "I'm always crying on you but never, did you ever, pushed me away." She said as her hands slowly found its way on Eren's back as the right side of her face leaned on his chest. "Thank you." She uttered.

Eren placed his left hand on her back and his right hand on the back of her head, as he rested his chin onto the top of her head, hugging her back.

"But Annie..." Eren started, slowly starting to open up the subject that he had always wanted to ask her. "Please, tell me everything. I don't want to continue living without knowing anything anymore."

Annie pulled herself away from him, before he started to face upwards to meet his eyes. "Eren..." She said, supposed to be trying to avoid the talk but then she realized that Eren has the right to know- No. He should know about it.

Annie sighed before her hands slipped to her sides as Eren's hands slipped his hands to his. Annie started to walk away from Eren as Eren's eyes were fixed on her. She stopped in front of the opened window before she rested her elbows on the wood in front of her. She closed her eyes while feeling the warm breeze of the seaside wind.

"Annie..." He called again as he started to walk near her.

Thinking, if she would tell Eren about the truth in that instant. She laughed at herself mentally of what she thought. Eren had been waiting for her to tell it to him for a year already. She opened her eyes as she made her final decision.

"Where do I start?" Annie said as he faced him, who stood up beside her.

Eren rested his elbows on the wood in front of him as well, just like how Annie did. He faced the sea that his eyes could reach. "This land... What is this place exactly?"

As Annie turned her head on the sea, she started to look onto the wide blue waters as she prepared her thoughts in answering Eren's question. "It is the world that the whole humanity used to live in... Before the huge walls were created." She said before she turned her head to Eren, as Eren was able to see her smile. "Beautiful, isn't it?" She said, while smiling.

Eren was taken aback on how genuine her smile was. His green eyes were visible as his eyes widen and as his mouth was left open. Annie suddenly looked at the waters again before her smile slowly faded, before another smile showed up on her face. A sad smile showed up on her face, that changed the expression that Eren's face was giving off.

"But it was left alone as the titans were isolated from the humans." Annie said that made Eren confused as he started to furrow his brows while looking at Annie.

"Wha-what do you mean? You're saying that the titans are the ones who were isolated by humans? B-but-" Eren asked, but was soon cut off by Annie's words.

"You wanted to know everything, right?" Annie said as she looked at Eren while smiling at his confused face.

With Annie's words, Eren chose to shut his mouth and composed himself to listen and understand everything what Annie would say.

"All titans are humans..." Annie started again as Eren put a halt on what she was about to say when he reacted.

Eren then, realized what he had done tht made him look down on his hands. "I'm sorry." He said.

Annie only smiled at him before she continued to tell him that words she was about to say.

"All titans are humans, but not all humans are titans." She said it completely. Eren stayed quiet as he looked at her with all of his attention.

"Titans are human experiment that was made by the first king, together with some people." She said as she looked in front of her again. "And the reason why you can't fully remember the whole history that your father had stolen is that it is only applicable for the Reiss' bloodline... Where the main content of the liquid that was put into us was made."

"I still can't fully understand it." Eren stated that made Annie look at him. Eren looked down to the wood in front of him as his hands was placed on the back of his head. "Then why does the titans eat humans? Why do they kill humanity?"

Annie looked back at the wide sea before she continued. "The only way for us to become a human again was to eat a human who can become a titan itself." She paused before she decided to look on Eren's reaction but still, his brows were furrowed, showing his confusion. "Other titans wanted to become a human so bad, that they started to eat humans, hoping that the human they devour was injected by the same thing that got into our bodies. Until the time came..."

Eren looked at Annie who paused from what she was saying. Waiting for her to continue her words.

"When most of the humans who became a titan already lost their senses. They weren't able to think anymore and that the only thing that was stuck in their heads was to eat humans, but they couldn't remember what their reason was at all." She said as Eren's grew big after hearing what Annie said.

"The first king built those large walls, seperating the humans that were not injected from the humans who became titans." She continued as questions built up on Eren's mind.

"Why would the king brainwash the human kind?" Eren suddenly uttered. Not intentionally letting Annie hear it. It was supposed to be spoken in his thoughts when his mouth did the job.

"That, I don't know." Annie said when Eren suddenly felt a hand on his left shoulder that made him look up to Annie. "Ymir and the Deviant titan told me the story. I don't know anything as well for we were born in the same generation." She said as she smiled at him lightly.

Eren looked at the sea as he started to wrap up all the things that Annie said on his mind. Little bits of confusion faded, as the small pieces of the puzzle found its place on the picture.

-

"Armin." Sasha suddenly called the guy who was reading things inside the library that was only exclusive for the Queen. "What are you doing?"

Armin stopped what he was doing as he faced Sasha before he smiled as he answered her question. "Nothing, just relaxing my mind from thinking about stuff."

Armin had been thinking about the person who was behind in the case of the hidden underground cell as he was also thinking about how titans actually existed. Thinking that they already have the idea, that the titans were actually humans like them while wondering how the other titans could actually think when the others did not. An information suddenly popped out on Armin's head that made him ask Sasha a question.

"Sasha, in what town was Connie raised again?" Armin asked him curiously with his furrowed brows.

Sasha also furrowed her brows with Armin's sudden question about Connie. "Why do you ask?"

Armin looked at her directly to her eyes before he shook his head and responded. "Nothing, just to add another piece of information to what I've been thinking for a long time."

Sasha pulled a chair that was in front of Armin before she sat on it. She looked at Armin with her confused big eyes as she answered Armin's question. "From Ragako Village. What are you thinking anyways?"

"I'm thinking about a lot of things." Armin responded before he uttered some words that only him understood it. "Ragako Village... That's the place where the effect of the plague was strong before."

With Armin's new information, he immediately stood up before he looked down at Sasha who was sittin on a chair in front of him. "Sasha, I'll be going now. I'll go to Commander Erwin first."

Sasha nodded before Armin decided to leave Sasha in the library completely as Sasha's eyes were fixed on him while he was walking away.

When Sasha heard the door of the library closed, she looked at the table in front of her as she saw the book that Armin was reading before she came into the scene. She reached out the book and pulled it towards her, before she started to read what he read. Getting curious on what that smart blonde was actually thinking about.

"The plague several years ago was more prominent in the Ragako Village for the people that were there were not cured immediately by Doctor Grisha Jaeger." Sasha stopped reading after she noticed the last name of the doctor. Jaeger? She thought, as she started to remember during their trainee days how Armin, Mikasa and Eren were left without anyone taking care of them anymore.

Sasha shook her head as she started to read what was written in the book again. "It was said that the people lived in the Ragako Village who survived the plague was cured with a different medicine that was used by Doctor Grisha Jaeger."

Sasha's eyes grew big after she realized something when she read the second paragraph. It can't be... She thought, before she stood up from her seat and closed the book.

She immediately went out of the place while carrying the book with her. Running towards where they were staying when they were inside the premises of Wall Sina.

Armin immediately ran towards their house like quarters inside Wall Sina right after he got down from his horse. Seeing Erwin, Hanji, Levi, Mikasa, Connie and Jean on the table while talking about some things regarding the person behind the hidden underground cell.

"Sorry to interrupt your conversation Commander, but I have things to report on." Armin said as he saluted to everyone who was there.

Erwin and the others looked at him as he said those words before Erwin nodded and told Armin to sit down on a vacant seat available.

"What is it Armin?" Erwin said while all pair of eyes on the table was looking at him.

"I found a new information that might help us in knowing how titans were made... Well, not really how they were made but we can actually know things about the titans." Armin said that made Hanji's eyes sparkle. Being addicted to titans was a habbit that was hard to remove from her, even though she matured already.

"What about it, Armin?" Hanji said as she lend Armin both of her ears.

Armin cleared his throat as he watched all of those pair of eyes staring at him, waiting for him to tell the details.

Armin looked at Connie who was beside Jean, that gave Connie an uneasy feeling about what was Armin going to say. Armin looked back at Erwin before he started to speak.

"I was thinking about the person who was suspected to be the one in charge of the hidden underground cell, making me go to Historia's library." He paused for a while before he continued. "The library is filled with written reports on what has actually happened in the past years inside these walls and books that the government forbid the citizens to have."

"In a book, I read something about the plague that occured several years ago." Armin said, not noticing how the one man twitched a little on his sit. It was the girl who was sitting beside him was the only one who noticed his reaction.

Mikasa looked at Levi as she noticed the emotion that his eyes were giving off. Sadness and longing showed, when Armin suddenly started to speak.

"The people of Ragako Village who was affected by the plague was said to be those people who were not easily cured with the normal medicine that the doctor used to cure to the other people who was also affected by the plague in other villages." Armin said before Levi suddenly said something.

"And your point is?" He asked with his straight face as Armin looked at him.

"The book also said that the doctor used a different medicine for them to be cured." He continued, not answering Levi's question. Armin faced Mikasa before he tried to talk to her. "Mikasa, the doctor is Eren's father. Do you remember?"

Mikasa looked at little bit surprised after Armin told her that. But before she could ask Armin, Erwin got ahead of her when she tried to speak.

"So, what is it exactly that you wanted to tell?" Erwin said as he was looking at Armin's eyes, waiting for him to get to his point.

"Sir, four years ago, the people of Ragako Village became Titans and that we thought that Wall Rose was breached when it actually didn't happen at all." Armin said as Erwin and the others were slowly getting his point. "I think that those people were the ones who survived the plague from their village. And the doctor which was Eren's father, might did something to them. The same thing that he did to his son."

The place were conquered by silence as the newly found information was flowing to their minds. Their thinking was disturbed when Armin spoke again.

"Sir, we need to know where Grisha Jeager actually came from." Armin said before Hanji spoke on the other side as well.

"But if titans actually became human after a titan eats a human who transforms into a titan, how did the villagers returned to their human form?" Hanji said while looking down at the table before she looked at Armin who was facing her.

"That's the exact reason on why we need to investigate Grisha Jaeger. Might as well, he was the reason on how Eren regained his human form." Armin said, before all of them looked at Erwin who was thinking about something deep.

"Erwin, do you know someone who knows about that doctor?" Levi asked as his right elbow was resting on the table when at the same time, his right jaw was leaning on his right hand.

They suddenly heard a slam of the door that made them looked at who entered. They saw Sasha. Sweat falling down from her head as she was panting while carrying the book that she took.

"Armin! I brought the book!" Sasha said before she walked towards them and placed the book on the table. All of them started to look at Erwin as Sasha realized that they had already started the meeting.

Erwin sat still, as he continued to look at the table on front of him. A moment later, a deep voice conquered the place as they all listened to it.

"Instructor Shadis."

-

After the time that Annie talked to him about the things that he needed to know, Eren spent the whole day thinking of what might be the King's real reason in brainwashing the whole human race.

He rested his body on his bed, that night. He could not stop thinking about what Annie had told him in the morning. And for some time, he already had fallen asleep.

He saw his young self, being taken by his father into the woods. Into a place where no one could see them. He was so confused, he did not want to remember it, it was a dreadful nightmare for him.

He was wondering on what he was seeing. Everytime he tried to remember those things, his head had always started to get hurt, but not that time.

He saw his young self being injected with something by his father, as he slowly became a two meter type titan, who was in a for of a child as he watched himself grabbed his own father. The young titan placed the old man on its mouth, before the titan turned back to its human form.

Eren opened his eyes and immediately sat up on his bed. Feeling his body heat rising up, as he felt his sweat flow down to the side of his cheeks.

He stared blankly at the wall in front of him, thinking of what he had dream about, before he bent down his head as he placed his hands onto his forehead while his elbows was leaning on his thighs.

"I didn't want to do it."
