Chapter 18: Castle Diving Techniques

Kelsey's POV

The giant red squishy thing extended its arms toward me and I rolled to my left. The castle was slightly smoking and the gray clouds billowed against the bright orange sunset.

There was a tower to my left that blocked a path to a bridge. I turned to hear the Doctor croak "Run!" before seeing him rush into the TARDIS.

Mickey was incapacitated. The Zygon had snapped his gun and was lunging for his neck. Thinking fast, I grabbed a loose rock from the ground and threw it at the Zygon.

"Hey, ugly!" I shouted above the screams of innocent people, "leave him alone!"

The Zygon twisted his head in my direction, as if confused, then grinned the most disgusting grin I'd seen. It began to chase after me slowly, but gained speed fast as it shapeshifted. Struck with newfound horror, I sprinted across a bridge that hosted two identical red brick pillars; one with boxes stacked by it, the other with a shed and sleeping security guard.

I launched myself up onto the left pillar as the confused red gusher tried to reach me from my perch. As it roared it woke the guard, who, angered someone had disturbed his nap, broke the walls down and growled. I saw my chance and jumped onto the Zygon, knocking it out. As I screamed for Jack, the guard grew suckers and began to make its way towards me. I ran into a colonial town and saw an umbrella stand and brick buildings. I grabbed an umbrella and whacked the Zygon's face and legs, knocking it to the ground.

I ran toward the building labeled "Hall of Presidents" on my map. As I entered, another roar came out, this time across a speaker system. I frantically spun and hid behind blue curtains. A warm chunky spray hit my back. Another Zygon was close.

I leaped in fright as I saw a man dressed colonially turn into a Zygon as well. I used my umbrella to smash a section of thin wall beside me. Jumping through the hole, I ran up a ladder and onto a platform. The Zygon followed.

"...wakes up in a land of limitless possibilities. In a land where 'We the People' means all the people. We may come from different places, and believe in different things, but what makes us America is a shared spirit. A spirit of courage and determination..." a voice said over the loudspeaker. I crashed into a mop cart as I ran around backstage. Scrambling to stand, I saw a small wooden staircase, a door to the outside, and a janitor growing red suckers on its face next to the door. I kicked the Zygon that had chased me through the wall into the mop cart and smacked the other with my umbrella. A fanfare played over the speakers. I sprinted up the small staircase and found myself in the middle of a stage with around 43 people. A gasp rose over the crowd as a Zygon came on my right. I ran left, shouting "sorry!" to everyone I passed. Pausing briefly, I grabbed the hand of President Roosevelt and saluted the rest of the men before making my escape.

I emerged back into the colonial area, seeing a flush pink emerging on the surrounding sky. I ran out to the broken umbrella stand and snagged a second umbrella, sliding the handles thought the belt loops of my jean shorts. I ran into a tiny forest and leapt across a series of rooftops before landing neatly on the ground before a giant beanstalk and a carousel.

A hand tapped my shoulder. I slid an umbrella out, poised to attack.

"Relax, it's only me." Jack said, arms raised in surrender. "Impressive moves."

"You pick up a thing or two in torture" I lowered the childish weapon and he smiled a little. I scanned my surroundings. The castle wasn't far from the beanstalk. If I could just...

THUD.

Jack was tossed against me from behind. My head hit a wall decorated to look like rocks. I stood dizzily and pulled him up. I checked for my umbrellas. The Zygon was closing in. Horrified screams surrounded us as children and adults alike ran for their lives.

I grabbed the grappling hook from Jack's belt and gripped the collar of his blue button up, then proceed to aim for one of the higher towers on the castle.

People gasped and shouted as they saw me pulling his limp body up the castle via grappling hook. I landed squarely on one of the turrets of the castle. He jolted awake as we landed, screaming.

"What the hell?"

He stared down at the stage below. Cinderella and Snow White danced around each other as they lip synched to the pre-recorded song blaring from the speakers.

"Less talking. More climbing."

I aimed the grappling hook at the top of the highest tower on the castle and fired. The metal gripped the tip of the stone building and sent colored dust shimmering down the castle walls. I checked my grip and pulled. We swung up to the top of the tower. As we landed, Jack planted his feet on the small cement turrets. Music blasted louder from the speakers, making it hard to hear what he said next.

"I can handle myself now, thanks." He took the grappling hook from my grip and aimed it across the park.

"You'll never make it!" I shouted. "It's too far!" I struggled to grab it back but my foot slipped, small chunks of rock falling to the towers below.

"I'll be fine!" Jack shot and the grappling hook dug itself into the wooden surface of what I could only imagine was a bridge.

"Wait! What am I supposed to do?" I screamed.

"You'll figure something out. I've gotta find my team. You find the Doctor."

He swung down from the tower and down across the fake jungle into what my map later referenced as the Swiss Family Robinson Tree House. I looked frantically around for somewhere to hide. This tower wasn't doing me any favors.

I glanced at my two umbrellas, then at the black wire connecting the towers to a metal walkway off to my left. It wasn't an ideal means of escape, but there was no doubt in my mind that the Zygons were close behind me. A gust of wind tickled my neck. I had a shot. I pointed one of the umbrellas at the walkway. I set my feet and jumped off the tower.

I wasn't quick enough and lost my grip on the first umbrella. It slid down the black wire as I fell. I quickly opened the other umbrella and my speed reduced. I held it above my head and floated down towards a stream. More screams resonated in my ears and smoke billowed in the distance. I flipped the umbrella over to make a boat of sorts, splashed into the water and floated down towards the bridge.
