Chapter 15: What's Outside?
Kelsey's POV
A giant blue and white castle towered in front of us. Pink roses poked out of the freshly trimmed green hedges. A giant brassy looking statue of a man and a cartoon mouse sat in a circle of green leaves and white cement. The rusty red brick pathway was polished with extreme care and the sunrise glinted off the lampposts. Baskets of pink flowers hung from the curlicue arms of the lampposts.
"What is this place?" I asked Mickey. He stood up on the brick path and dusted off his jeans.
"Oh no. Please no." He shuddered. He sprinted into the TARDIS and slammed the door. I stared at the door in astonishment.
The Doctor walked out to join me in looking around the TARDIS. "What's up with him?" We asked each other at the same time. I smiled and wandered around the TARDIS.
My eyes drifted to the Doctor, who was using his sonic on the statue. His long brown coat flapped in the soft breeze. I climbed up the short rock wall and looked around.
"Seems to be a theme park of sorts." I said.
"Speaking of theme parks, know where I should take you someday?" The Doctor said.
"Where?" I asked, jumping down from the wall and walking over to the curlicued lamps.
"Hedgewick's World of Wonders. You'll love it. It's candy land. Well, not really. More of a theme park like I said." He looked down at the silver device. "Well, something's definitely wrong here. We've gotta check it out." He gave me a bright cheesy smile. "Our first real adventure together. You ready?" He extended his hand to me. I shyly grabbed it and he squeezed tightly.
"Ready." I said. We pushed open the door of the TARDIS to find Mickey.
Martha entered the room at the same time as us. A worried look was on her face and she held an ice pack in her hand.
"Is he okay?" I asked her. She sighed and sat on the jumpseat.
"Yeah, he's okay. He hit his head. He's asleep right now." She yawned, using it as an excuse to eye our clasped hands. I dropped hands with the Doctor and walked over to sit next to her. "So, Doctor, any clue as to where we are?"
The Doctor ran a hand through his messy brown hair, causing it to ruffle. "Well, not really. It's an amusement park, that part's for sure." He moved to look at the TARDIS screen, then groaned when it didn't work. "Ugh, come on!" He grabbed a rubber mallet and whacked the screen. Hard. A loud groan resonated from the engine.
"An amusement park?" Martha asked. I nodded.
"He seemed really scared when he saw where we are." I explained.
Martha groaned. "No wonder." She muttered. She stood and began pacing and talking to herself about anxiety problems.
"You probably shouldn't hit it like that." I told The Doctor.
"Well, how else am I supposed to fix it?" He asked.
"I don't know? This place has infinite rooms; surely you could conjure one up?"
"Well, I don't like change, so hitting will have to do until I can fix it properly."
"Just because it's a machine doesn't mean it doesn't react. Watch." I snatched the mallet from him and whacked the engine hard. A shrill sound came from the engine and Martha screamed.
"Would you shut up already!" Mickey yelled. He stood on the staircase with his hands clenched on the rail. We all looked at him and he walked up to us. "Turn it off."
The Doctor flipped a lever and I scurried to Martha's side. I helped her to the jumpseat and ran off to get a glass of water. When I came back, Mickey was beside her and the Doctor was leaning against the console. I handed Martha the glass and she took it thankfully.
Mickey took a deep breath and looked at us. "I have reason to believe that we have landed in my past."
