Only One Way Out

"That's the only way to get through it." He coughed, the smoke finally taking effect on him. "Get on my back." He knelt for her to jump onto him.

"Ash, we can't run through that! Let's just wait until someone comes to help." She started to cough.

"Serena, we'll be engulfed by the flames if we wait here."

"That's what will happen to you if you jump into that fire! Are you trying to kill yourself!? There has to be another way!" Serena yelled at him, as she coughed.

"Serena." He stood back up and started down at her. "We have to. Or else we will just die here, not even trying to live."

"Trying to live!? You're practically committing suicide running though that fire!" Serena yelled.

"Well then tell me what else we can do!?" Ash yelled back as more debris fell from the roof above them.

Serena didn't say anything. There was no other way to get out.

Soon the roof above them collapsed, a plank of wood heading towards Serena. Ash took action and jumped foward, hugging Serena and pulling her with him away from falling plank of wood. Ash landed on his side, his side rubbing against the wood that have already fell from the fire, giving him splinters as his hat flew off, landing next to him from the impact of the fall.

The plank of wood hit the floor in front of them, flames devouring it as the other side of it reached the fire.

"Ash!" Serena sat up and looked down at him in concern.

Ash sat up, coughing and said, "This whole place is falling apart. We got to get out of here." He grabbed his hat and put it back on and stood up.

Serena stood up with him and sighed. "I'm telling you, we can't run through that! You got to listen to me!"

"But we can't just stand here and do nothing!" Ash yelled as the flames got closer.

Serena started to cough. "Ash please." She pleaded. "You know we can't make it through that."

Ash sighed and looked into the fire. It's flames getting higher and the smoke getting lower. Serena was right, they would never get through there. They became closed in on a small spot of the hall. There really was no where to go. This couldn't be where it ended. He just got back to Serena. He didn't want it to end there.

"There has to be some kind of way out of this!" He looked around, the hallway ablaze as it lit up the small area that Serena and Ash stood there, trapped. He looked up. The roof above them and the floor under them wasn't on fire. If he had Clemont's Bunnelby he would be able to dig a hole out, but he didn't, so he went back to the roof. It was still collapsing, making it unstable and easy to break through

"Serena! I have an idea!" Ash turned around to look at her.

Serena starred up at him and asked, "What is it?" But before Ash could respond, she fell to the ground, coughing.

"Serena!" Ash knelt down.

She continued to cough, but pushed herself up, but barely able to. "I'm fine."

Ash took out a pokeball from his pocket and threw it. The pokeball opened and a flash of light appeared before them disappeared, showing Talonflame.

"Talonflame I want you to fly us out of here! Fly through that spot of the roof and fly as fast as you can!" Ash pointed towards the roof above them.

Talonflame nodded and knelt down for Ash and Serena to board it.

Ash picked up Serena in his arms and stood up. Serena rested her head on his chest and closed her eyes. She was lighter then before. "Did Serena really not eat anything for the past 2 days? I thought Clemont and Calem was just exaggerating." He thought.

Ash looked down on her and frowned. "I'm so sorry Serena." He cried as tears fell down his cheeks.

He jumped onto Talonflame and Talonflame flapped out its wings, barely missing the fire surrounding them. Talonflame flapped its wings and the fire around them started to flare up. Talonflame got ready and flew towards the roof. Ash held Serena close to him and got ready for impact. Talonflame felt his head scrape against the roof and then felt the cold air from outside as he flew out of the house. Tiles of the roof fell everywhere as they flew out.

Talonflame stumbled, his head hurting from the impact. He flew away from the house and landed in the front yard, throwing Ash across the grass. Ash held Serena close and made sure that he fell on his back. Talonflame fell next to Ash, it's head still aching. Once they made it out, they heard fire sirens and people yelling. Ash turned around and saw the fire has reach the front of the house, water type Pokèmon fighting it off the best they could with their trainers behind them, holding hoses and spraying the fire to help.

Serena sat up and watched them fight the fire.

Clemont rushed over after seeing Talonflame fly out of the house. "Ash! Serena!"

Serena and Ash turned around and saw Clemont, Bonnie and Calem running towards them. Ash stood up and pulled Serena up with him.

Bonnie reached there first and jumped on Serena, throwing her back to the ground. Bonnie was crying and yelling, "I thought that you wouldn't come out of the house!" Tears streaming down her face.

Serena smiled and hugged her back, tears falling down her cheeks. "I thought I wouldn't see you again either."

Clemont ran up and said, "All I saw was you guys flying out from the roof!" Then after awhile, his face turned into a puzzled look. "How did that fire start anyway?" Clemont turned to Serena who was still holding Bonnie.

Serena fake smiled and then starred back at the ground and said, "I put a candle next to the Lilac that Ash gave me, which was a mistake." Serena sighed.
