Each Other

In this One-Shot, Ash and Serena were 16 when they traveled together while Clemont was 15 and Bonnie was 9.

Ash's POV

05:00 PM

There she was, going down the escalators, on her way to Hoenn. I wanted to stop her. I wanted to ask her to come with me. Travel with me. I wanted to travel the world together with her, but I couldn't bring myself to say it. She was so happy that she was about to embark on a new adventure all by herself, so I couldn't stop her. I just walked to the edge of the escalator, hoping to keep my eyes on her for as long as possible. I thought it would be the last time I would see her. I was feeling conflicted. I didn't know why I wanted her to stay with me. It has never happened to me with any other travelling companions... so why her?

To my surprise, she turned around and asked one last thing from me. I looked on as she ran up to me and poured her heart out to me with one simple, yet powerful action. A kiss with unmatched sweetness and warmth. It was passionate and introduced me to feelings that I had never encountered before. It was burned into my memory as my first kiss and one I would remember for ever. The close proximity allowed her Strawberry fragrance to enchant my nose with an aroma that I would never forget either. That kiss conveyed everything it needed to. I was foolish not to realise it sooner during our journey. Realise what I felt for her and what she felt for me. I had a chance to confess then though... and I did. I confessed in the same way that she did. I returned the favour and melted into the moment. No words were exchanged after that... because none were needed. She gave me a beautiful smile. One that was as sweet as honey. One that I would never be able to look at without my heart melting. After that, a simple "Good Luck" and a simple "See You" were all that we wanted to say to each other, because we knew that we would meet again... and the story would continue from where we left off.

That was 2 years ago. A lot has happened during that time. Serena and I have stayed in contact ever since. The last time we met was during Bonnie's 10th birthday, but everybody was in a rush. Serena was due to appear in the Grand Festival the day after Bonnie's Birthday and I was supposed to be in Alola for the League Final the day after, so nothing much happened then.

She became Top Coordinator in Hoenn and very recently in Sinnoh, while I lost the Alola league but went back to Kalos to become the Kalos Champion. Honestly, travelling around Kalos was a lot more fun with her by my side. I hadn't noticed it back then, but she bought life to the group. She was the glue holding us together. This time around, I traveled all by myself.

Right now, I am in Lumiose City. In Prism Tower to be exact. Tonight, we will be celebrating two very important achievements... my new title of 'Kalos Champion' and Serena being crowned as the Top Coordinator of Sinnoh. Yes, that's right. Serena is on her way to Lumiose City today, all the way from Sinnoh.

This is a small party. Well... that's what I've been told by Clemont and Bonnie. It was supposed to be a surprise for the both of us, but since I was already here in Lumiose, I quickly found out about it. Serena, on the other hand, doesn't know anything yet. The reason she is coming back to Kalos is to rest in Vaniville Town with Grace for a while before heading off to yet another adventure. This time, however, I'll make sure that she won't be going on a new adventure all alone. This time, I'll make sure I'll do everything I regret not doing on that fateful day 2 years ago. This time, I'll be with her every step of the way.

I have been hatching a plan for today. It will be a surprise... to everyone. No one knows about this at all. We are holding the party tonight in Gym, on the battlefield. All my preparations are already complete. I already have what I need to have and know what I need to know. Now, its just a waiting game.

07:50 PM

Serena's plane landed around 15 minutes ago. She called Clemont on the Video Phone, like she usually did when she arrived in Lumiose, and Clemont called her over to his Gym, to which she agreed. Bonnie, Grace, Prof. Oak, Prof. Sycamore, Shauna, Miette, Trevor, Tierno, Mom and I were all hidden away from the Video Phone to keep everything as low-key as possible. Clemont put the phone down and we are now waiting until Serena arrives.

Serena's POV

08:15 PM

The Taxi I'm in is quite nice and comfortable. It is quite cold outside for Kalos. Maybe I've just gotten used to the weather in Hoenn and Sinnoh. They are a lot warmer.

I'm on my way to Clemont's Gym. It will be nice to see Clemont and Bonnie again... though I would really like to meet Ash. The last time I saw him in person was around a year ago. Since then, the calls have become less and less frequent, What's worse is that he hasn't even called me since I became Top Coordinator in Sinnoh. I've tried calling him to congratulate him for being crowned as the new Kalos Champion, but he never picks up. I'm starting to think that he has moved on... and everytime I think like that, my heart breaks a little more.

This has become quite frequent now. We used to talk to each other almost every other day. Now, we go weeks without talking to each other. Its slowly killing me inside.

"We're here. Prism Tower. That will be ₱20 please."

It was the Taxi driver speaking.

I pay and then walk out of the Taxi. In front of me stood the imposing Prism Tower in all its glory. I still remember the day Ash jumped off the top of it to save Pikachu... honestly, how recklessly heroic can he get?

I start making my way towards the entrance. The whole city has already recovered from the Zygarde incident from 2 years ago. Everything looks as good as new.

No-One's POV

Serena is now inside the Prism Tower while Ash and the others are getting ready to surprise her. Well, everybody, apart from Ash, was in the Gym. Ash was in a room, just beside the Gym, tuning the 4 string instrument in his hand to make sure that it sounds as good as possible.

They have turned all the lights in the Gym off meaning they didn't notice the face that Ash wasn't there. Everybody in the Gym was getting slightly impatient while getting very excited at the same time. They couldn't wait to see Serena's reaction.

Serena was now right in front of the doors of the Gym. Clemont had given every one of his friends a Key-card to access the Gym. Serena took that card out and swiped it on a metallic place next to the door.

The door opened and all she could see was darkness. The lights were all off and she could barely see anything. She was about to all out when suddenly...

"SURPRISE!!"

Everybody yelled at the same time while the lights simultaneously switched on.

Serena was taken aback. She had not seen it coming at all. All she could do was have a grin on her face and smile at everyone there. She was especially surprised to see Delia and and Prof. Oak there and then when her heart skipped a beat. 'If they were here, he must be too' she thought. Her eyes immediately started wandering around in search of the Raven-haired boy. The same one she is hopelessly in love with... but her heart ached as her eyes could not even see a hint of him anywhere.

Her smile immediately turned into a frown. This puzzled everybody as they too started looking around to see what made her emotions change so quickly.... and that's when none other than Bonnie realised that Ash wasn't there.

Bonnie's mouth dried up of sheer panic. Ash had been acting slightly uncomfortable lately and Bonnie had a feeling that it might have been something to do with Serena, but she didnt expect him to vanish like this. Bonnie was now furious with 'Ash Ketchum of Pallet Town' as he liked to call himself. She was about to go on a rampage in search of Ash when, suddenly, the lights in the Gym started dimming. It dimmed further and further, until all lights were completely off. All, but one.

The one light acted like a spotlight as it illuminated a small part of the Gym. The illuminated part had a microphone and a stool placed behind it. Everybody had fallen quiet. Even Bonnie, who was fuming just seconds ago, watched in bewilderment. Suddenly, they heard a door open and close on the right side of the Gym and a figure started walking towards the spotlight. When the figure reached the spotlight, everybody smiled while Serena gasped.

Raven hair, Auburn eyes, Z marks under his cheeks. He had grown a lot since Serena last saw him. He was wearing a simple Burgundy coloured hoodie with black skinny jeans and black trainers. He held a small string instrument in his hand. A Ukulele. He then sat on the stool and looked straight ahead to look at Serena, and at that moment, after a whole year apart, Amber finally met Blue. Each getting lost in the other's eyes. They started for a moment until Ash finally smiled.

Ash gave a warm smile to Serena. Serena was just awestruck. She just started at the Ravenette with tears of happiness threatening to leak out. All her doubts were violently flushed away at that moment. Ash was there for her... like he has always been. She felt relief take over her as the smile on her face was soon replaced, only this time, it was a lot larger.

Ash sat there and started defending himself before he even started singling.

"I might not be great at this. I'm more used to battling you see."

He paused and then continued.

"This is for a special someone. That someone was, and still is, very important to me. I only realised how important only after she wen't away. It's nice to have you back, Serena." he finished.

Serena's heart was now pounding at her chest. The surprising... surprise by Ash was overwhelming for her. If tears weren't leaking earlier, they were certainly flooding now.

Ash looked straight ahead at Serena and started strumming.

Ash put his heart and soul into singing the song. He wanted to make it as heartfelt as possible.

"Your lipstick stains on the front lobe of my left side brains. I knew I wouldn't forget you and so I went and let you blow my mind."

Ash wanted to let Serena know that the kiss from 2 years ago was important to him. Much too important to forget about her. In fact, he wanted more. He wanted her to blow his mind again... lust like she all 2 years ago.

"Your sweet moonbeam. The smell of you in every single dream I dream. I knew when we collided, you're the one I have decided, who's one of my kind."

Ash wanted to let Serena know that her smile is always with him. That same that he never for got, or will ever forget. The same one he can always melt into. And her smell. The sweet Strawberry scent that always lingers around her. The same fragrance that left him breathless all those years ago. The same one that he has attached nostalgic memories to. The same one he dreamt of indulging himself in once again.

"Hey Soul Sister, ain't that Mr. Mister on the radio, stereo, the way you move ain't fair you know. Hey Soul Sister, I don't wanna miss a single thing you do-o-o... Tonight."

Ash wanted to let Serena know exactly what he thinks of her... but in a cryptic way. Serena being from Kalos (France); The word for "soulmate" in Kalosion (French) is "âme sœur". The literal translation of which, in English, is "soul sister". Ash also wanted to let her know that he wanted to spend every living moment with her... hence the use of the final line.

"I'm so obsessed. My hear is bound to be right at my untrimmed chest. I believe in you, like a virgin, you're Madonna, and I'm always gonna wanna blow your mi-i-ind."

Ash wanted to let Serena know that he always thinks about her. Thinking about her makes his heart do flips and his stomach have butterflies. He also wanted to let her know that he will do everything to impress her and keep her as happy as possible.

"The way you can't cut a rug. Watching you is the only drug I need. You're so gangster, I'm so thug. You're the only one I'm dreaming of. You see, I can be myself now finally, infact there's nothing I can't be. I want the world to see you be, with me."

Ash wanted to let her know that Serena is the only one he needs in his life. Serena is the only one he ever thinks about or dreams of. Now that Serena is here, he can finally express himself to her. He can finally be himself after being trapped by his own regretful actions, or rather, the lack of it. Now that Serena is here, he feels like he can take on the world and still win. He wants to let Serena know that he wants to be hers and he wants her to be his.

"Hey Soul Sister, ain't that Mr. Mister on the radio, stereo, the way you move ain't fair you know. Hey Soul Sister, I don't wanna miss a single thing you do-o-o... Tonight."

" Hey Soul Sister, I don't wanna miss a single thing you do-o-o... Tonight."

"He-ey, He-e-e-e-ey, He-e-e-e-ey"

"Tonight"

"He-ey, He-e-e-e-ey, He-e-e-e-ey"

"...Tonight"

By the time the song was finished, everybody's jaws were dropped. You could hear giggling... coming from Miette, Shauna and Bonnie probably. Ash, however, had his eyes fixed on the Honey-Blonde in front of him. She was as beautiful as ever, if not, more. Those Cerulean eyes were as bright and as vibrant as ever. Her hair still looking as silky smooth as they used to. What caught Ash's eyes the most was the blue ribbon that she wrapped around her wrist. It was the same one he gave her all those years ago.

Ash looked up to meet her face. They were tear stained, but she had the biggest, most beautiful smile plastered on her face. Her eyes were shimmering with sheer happiness. The huge blush on her face made her look absolutely adorable to Ash.

He knew he needed to say it now. He had to.

"Serena, I'm sorry. During our journey through Kalos with Clemont and little Bonnie, I realised that I had these deep hidden feelings for you, but I couldn't understand them. I didn't know what they were or what they meant... but I liked them a lot. In fact, I didn't even know that they were for you. I must have been really, very dense." he said. This caused a few giggles.

"But what you did in that airport, on the final day, made everything crystal clear to me. I started realising exactly what these feelings were and who these were for. It only became clearer after we parted ways. After being away from you, I realised how much you meant to me. How important you were to me. I realised how big of an impact you had on me during our journey. I started realising that you were special Serena."

Ash paused for a while. There was complete silence. The only thing that could be heard was Serena's sniffling.

"I made a mistake bu not speaking up that day Serena. I made a mistake by letting you go. I've regretted it ever since and it has bee slowing eating away at me from the inside. I won't repeat that mistake again Serena. I realise now that I want you, I need you Serena. I want to be there, with you, every step of the way. I want us to fulfill our dreams together."

"What I'm trying to say is that... I've come to realise that... Serena Yvonne, I can say with utmost confidence and from the bottom of my heart, that I really and truly love you."

This is as happy as Serena had ever been. The boy, now a man, that she has had feelings for since childhood has come to realise that he too has feelings for her. She was overcome with joy and happiness. Her heart was beating at a Million miles an hour. Tears of happiness have been flooding her cheeks from the moment she saw Ash.

"A-Ash..." was all she could bring herself to say. She was happy, but she was stumped. She had dreamed of this moment from the second he laid eyes on the Raven-haired boy... but now that the moment was finally here, she didn't know what to do. Adrenaline was pumping though her body. It felt surreal to her. She couldn't tell if she was dreaming or not..

Serena couldn't hold herself back anymore. She now trusted her guts. She trusted her instincts and she trusted her heart. She did what they all told her to do. She sprinted to Ash with all her energy. Her legs moved as fast as possible to meet the boy she had been waiting for so long. The boy she fell in love with all those years ago. The boy she is still in love with.

Ash saw Serena running towards her. He dropped the Uke on the floor and stood up. He pushed the Mic away and started running towards her.

Both of them yearning to be in each other's arms. Both of them longing to embrace each other after such a long time.

Each second now felt like hours to them. They wanted to be with each other immediately.

Everybody watched on as the two got closer and closer to each other. Rapid footsteps were the only thing that could be hear... until they abruptly stopped.

The two had finally found each other. Serena in Ash's arms and Ash in Serena's. They were overcome with contentment. There's no other place the two of the would rather be. The both embraced each other tightly, never wanting to let go of each other. Serena buried her face in Ash's shoulder while Ash rested his head on Serena's.

Serena couldn't delay it anymore. In a swift motion, she unwrapped her arms from Ash's waist and placed each palm on Ash's respective cheeks. She looked deep into Ash's Auburn eyes while Ash shifted his arms onto Serena's waist while getting lost in Serena's Cerulean eyes.

They both gazed deep into each other's eyes while their faces edged closer and closer. Ash and Serena could feel the breath of their significant other on their own faces.

With one last push, they both closed their eyes and the gap between their lips.

That moment sent unknown feelings of bliss up their spines. Each feeling as if the other's lips were made for them. In that very moment, nothing mattered to them. All they cared about was the fact that, at long last, they had each other. They were finally together and nothing could separate them.

The kiss was short (Because of Bonnie and the mothers) but sweet. It held unparalleled and unprecedented amount of passion. They could feel how much they wanted to be with each other during that kiss... and that confirmation was all Ash and Serena needed.

As they broke the kiss, Serena was blushing a heavy shade of pink, but they couldn't break eye contact.

Serena finally decided to Ash orally. She was still hiccuping from all the crying, but she decided that it needed to be done. He had poured his heart out to her, and now, Serena believed that she too needed to reply.

"Ash Ketchum, I love you too."

"I always have... and I always will..."

Both Ash and Serena knew that from that moment on, their lives would change for the best, because, they had each other for support. They had their significant other with them at all times, supporting them and helping them during the bad times and celebrating with them and enjoying with them during the good times.

From that moment on, All Ash had during his journeys was Serena and all Serena had during her journey was Ash, but that didn't phase them one bit, because, that's all they needed. That's all they wanted.

Each other.

And that's it.

Thank you so much for reading this One Shot.I have been writing the whole day today. I really need some rest.

This story was supposed to be a simple confession... but I went overboard again. I think I overdid it a little...

I was planning to name it "Soul Sister"... but I decided to go with "Each Other" instead. I don't know which one would have been better...

I hope you enjoyed this One Shot though. I'm planning to make One Shots based on songs that I listen to and ones that can relate to Ash and Serena... so basically, most, if not, all of my One Shots will be based on songs.

I already have a couple of songs ready. You guys can recommend me some songs, but, I'm sorry, I can't guarantee that I'll use your song. To me, I have to understand the song and feel something special in them. That's sort of how I get inspired.

I used to listen to Hey Soul Sister a lot. I love this song to bits and I even leaned how to play it on the Uke and the Piano. I listened to it this morning and felt like I could write a One Shot on it and... here I am.

Now..

If I have made a mistake somewhere, please let me know.

Anyway, thanks again for reading.

See you in the next chapter.

(I don't know when it will be. I just do One Shots to take a break from my main story.)
