A Happy Little Happening

7 years old Ash and Serena have been going to the same school for 3 years now, however, they've never really noticed each other.

Right now, they're getting ready to start the fourth year of school.

We join the two as they're getting ready to enter the classroom.

With Ash

"Alright everybody, I've arranged a seating plan for you. Just look for the seat with your name on it and sit down." said the teacher nicely.

Ash was at the back of the queue. Almost everybody had found their seats by the time Ash entered the room. He looked around to see a lot of his friends already in the room.

Gary looked asleep already. Paul and Drew were arguing as usual while Barry was just staring outside the window. Clemont and Sophocles were talking normally... most likely about science.

Ash then set about looking for his seat.

He walked through the aisle between the tables while trying to spot his name on one of the seats. He kept walking and he couldn't find his name at all. That was until he got to the very final row.

A smile grew on Ash's face as soon as he saw his name. He wasted no time in throwing his bag off his back and sitting down.

As soon as Ash sat down, he leant back on the chair trying to stretch, however, he overdid it a little as he felt the chair about to topple. Ash swiftly leant forward and grabbed onto his desk stopping himself from falling. Ash sweatdropped and sighed a breath of relief.

At that moment, Ash heard a gasp followed by a giggle next to him.

Suddenly, Ash realised that he didn't know who he was sitting next to. Ash turned to face the person next to him.

It was a girl.

However, it wasn't just any girl. She seemed so different to all the other girls.

Ash just started at her as she giggled to herself while looking back at him. The smile on her face made him feel so warm and fuzzy. Her cheeks were slightly plump with a rosy hue atop them. Her short honey-blonde hair fell gracefully on either side of her face while the fringe was roughly swept to the side. It was an astonishing sight to Ash, however, her most amazing feature were those awe-inspiring eyes of hers. Her big Cerulean orbs glistened through her smile. Ash was captivated by the sight of her.

He didn't know what was going on with him, however, he really, really wanted to be friends with this girl.

"Y-You almost fell." she said while giggling.

"Yeah, hehe!" Ash replied nervously while scratching the back of his head.

The girl gave him a bright smile as she thrusted her hand forwards with an open palm, stopping millimeters in front of his nose.

"I'm Serena!" she exclaimed happily.

Ash looked a bit taken aback by the sudden action. He looked at the outstretched hard and then back at her. Eventually, he returned a goofy grin as he accepted the handshake.

"I'm Ash!" he replied with a smile of his own.

Serena broke the handshake and picked up her backpack. She shoved her hand inside and started looking for something. Moments later, her face lit up as she pulled a packet of Maltesers out of the bag. She opened it and popped one in her mouth. She the faced Ash and then spoke.

"Here!" she offered as he held the bag in front of Ash.

Ash's eyes lit up at the sight of the chocolates. He was about to take one out, however, Serena stopped him by holding his wrist.

Ash looked at Serena in surprise while Serena was squinting back at him.

"What do you say first?" she asked him.

Ash was cought in the moment. He didn't know what she was expecting from him... until something clicked in his mind.

"T-Thank you?" Ash half-asked, half-stated.

Serena decided that it was good enough and let go of his hand while smiling back at him.

Ash immediately look a Malteser out and popped it in his mouth. He longed for that irresistible feeling that he got as the chocolate melted in his mouth.

The teacher had decided to let the students to do whatever they wanted since it was the very first day of the year.

Ash and Serena started conversing while devouring the packet of chocolates. They talked about their favourite Pokemon, favourite foods etc. Their conversation seemed to flow so easily. It just felt natural.

Not long later, they had finished the chocolates. The packet was completely empty while the two kids had fingertips that were smothered with chocolate.

It wasn't a huge problem... until a strand of hair from Serena's fringe dropped down in front of her face. Ash and Serena both looked at the strand of hair wondering what to do.

They could go to the basin in front of the class to wash their hands, however, both of them were too lazy to get up... so Serena decided to play a game by herself while Ash watched.

Serena concentrated really hard as she started blowing at the strand of hair. Each puff would send if up, however, gravity would do its job by bringing it back down.

Each time the strand of hair came back down, the two would burst into a fit of giggles.

The two really enjoyed sitting next to each other. They just got along really well.

That, however, didn't last too long. Time flew by really quickly and the lesson was over.

Another teacher came in and moved everybody around.

Both Ash and Serena were visibly upset when they had to move away from each other, however, they had to do what the teacher told them to.

Serena was moved to the front of the class while Ash was sat a couple of rows behind her.

The teacher set about teaching some PDE... but Ash couldn't concentrate... mostly because he was staring at Serena.

Serena seemed to get along with everybody. Even right then, she was talking to the people sitting next to her.

Just seeing that made Ash feel a bit upset. He didn't know why though. He really liked it when his friends made friends.

It's just like he used to say. "The more, the merrier."...

For some reason though, that rule didn't apply to Ash when it came to Serena... and he honestly didn't know why.

Ash was staring at the honey-blonde, deep in thought, however, his eyes widened when she, all of a sudden, turned around to look at him. They briefly made eye contact, however, Ash didn't want to look like a creep.

Ash immediately looked away, but something told him too look back. Without thinking, Ash looked back towards Serena to find her looking back at him.

Again, Ash immediately looked away. Ash couldn't believe that Serena was looking at him... so guess what he did?

He looked back at her.

Guess what Serena was still doing?

She was still looking back at him with a smile.

At that moment, Ash felt his cheeks heat up. He couldn't look away anymore. He couldn't afford to embarrass himself anymore, so she kept looking at her.

They held eye contact for a couple of seconds until Serena giggled and looked away. She then started conversing with her friends while Ash sighed a breath of relief.

Ash slouched in his seat trying to not feel too embarrassed, however, he was interrupted by someone tapping his shoulder.

"Ashy-boy!" called a certain Mahogany-haired nuisance.

Ash sighed and replied without turning around.

"What is it, Gary?" he asked.

"I saw that you know?" replied Gary in a knowing tone.

Ash immediately froze. He knew Gary wouldn't stop teasing him about it. Ash let out a silent groan at the thought of it.

Gary then leaned over his table so that his face was right beside Ash's.

"Ashy-boy is growing up, I see!" said Gary while sniggering.

Ash was about to ask what Gary meant, however, the teacher spoke first.

"Gary, what're you doing?" she asked while glaring at Gary.

"S-Sorry!" said Gary as he shrunk back into his seat with a (fake) apologetic look on his face.

After that, nothing much happened. Soon, the lesson ended and it was time for lunch.

Ash watched as Serena walked out of the door with her friends, Dawn and May. Ash was waiting for Gary as the two often had lunch together.

Gary was finally done. He got his bag and was about to walk out of the door... until he heard a voice.

"Gary!"

Gary and Ash both turned to the source of the voice to find the teacher standing there.

"I need to talk to you... alone." she said slightly sternly.

Gary gulped while Ash held in his laughter.

"See you later, Gary!" said Ash as he walked out of the door.

He turned around to look at Gary one last time only to find him glaring back at him. Ash just chuckled and kept walking.

Ash was about to go down the set of stairs until he felt a hand hold his wrist.

Surprised, Ash turned around. His eyes then immediately lit up at the sight of the person as he grew an ear-to-ear grin.

"Serena!" he exclaimed happily.

Ash noticed Serena's cheeks becoming redder. Ash looked up towards the sky to find the sun radiating blazing heat.

"Yeah, it is really hot..." said Ash nonchalantly as he assumed that the redness on her cheeks were caused by the sun's heat.

"W-What?" asked a really confused Serena.

"Oh, your cheeks were red. You know, it's really hot. That's why!" Ash explained sounding really proud of himself.

Serena mentally face-palmed, however she giggled at Ash denseness.

"A-Ash, I was wondering if you wanted to have lunch together?" asked Serena. She sounded slightly nervous.

"Of course Serena, let's go!" he almost yelled in excitement.

Ash started running down the stairs while Serena found herself being dragged along. She realised that she was still holding onto his wrist.

Serena watched the vibrant and energetic boy in front of her with a smile and a blush on her face while Ash just couldn't wait to spend even more time with Serena.

And that's how Ash and Serena's story started.

It was their first encounter and they had already embarked on a journey together, however, little did they know that it was a journey that was going to last a lifetime.

Aaaand that's the end of this One Shot!

I just couldn't stop myself from writing!

Not just writing, I'm now addicted to Pokemon Duel. It's such an amazing game, but it would be even better if the servers weren't down all the time.

Anyways, thank you so much for reading.

I really hope you guys enjoyed this One Shot.

I'll see you in the next one!
