T-Rexes and Flowers
The honey blonde girl elbowed him as she walked past him, her purse and a store bag dangling from her elbow.
"Hey, lady," he called. "You should probably pay more attention to those who are walking." It came out a little more angry than he planned it to.
The girl stopped walking and turned her head around to stare down Ash. "Rude," she remarked distastefully and continued to walk.
He began to walk faster to catch up to her. "I'm getting really tired of this, you know."
"And why are you talking to me now?" She tried moving farther to the right into the buildings.
"You walk into me and others every morning. And don't get me going on other things I've seen you do. You just walked out of that store stealing a goddamn toy from that kid behind us." He motioned his eyes. "You snatched it right out of his hands when it was the very last one there."
"So?" She threw her hair back. "Are you stalking me?"
"No," he replied sharply, "I'm not stalking you. You walk down here every morning and I just so happened to be in that store looking for a gift for someone."
"Stalking."
"I'm not stalking you for goodness sakes, you're just so rude that everyone down this path happens to know you," Ash spit.
"You can stop talking to me now," she said while taking out a mirror from the side pocket of her purse. "I have to be somewhere. I don't have time for someone like you."
"For someone like me?"
"For someone like you." She looked back up from the mirror and moved her eyes to look at his entire figure.
"You're kidding me, right?" He stopped walking, letting her continue to walk out towards the next block.
"Nope!" She put the mirror back into the pocket.
He ran back up to her. "It's Christmas Eve for goodness sakes show at least a little bit of decency!"
"Decency?!" The girl was the one to stop walking now. "My goodness, the irony!"
"The irony?" He felt his blood begin to boil. "My god woman, get a grip." He started to walk away.
"And good riddance!"

As he continued to walk straight down the sidewalk of the city, he felt a tug on his sleeve and Ash looked down to find the small child that the lady had taken the present from. He held a small package and hand and threw it up to his face, grasping it tightly in his small hands.
Ash looked up to find the boy's parents staring at him, smiling.
"Is this for me?" Ash asked, pointing to himself.
The boy nodded, shoving the crumpled pieces of papers a little further out towards him.
Ash smiled warmly and took the wrapped gift from the young man, holding it out in front of himself and staring at it with warm cheeks. "Thank you," he thanked him as best as he could before staring right back up to the parents, saying another thank you with his lips. They lipped you're welcome right back. For the parents knew how rude that lady has been to everyone for a good time. It was nice seeing someone finally stepping up to her.
The boy ran back to his parents, hugging his mother's leg with a smile.
Ash opened the present right there on the side of the sidewalk, a few cars driving by as he did. Now realizing the gift was wrapped in brown napkins, Ash ripped them, revealing a small, tiny action figure of a T-Rex. The paint on the figure was notably chipped and wrinkled. A random, but pleasant gift. They couldn't afford much else.
His smile grew into a large grin. "Thank you!" He yelled on over to the family again, waving on towards them.
The child's eyes gleamed when he smiled. He liked the gift, he thought. Joy filled his heart.

After another day at work, Ash took the same path again and ran into the same lady, walking the same way that she had that same morning. But this time, she wasn't walking into people like she had earlier that morning, wasn't talking meanly to others around her, and was simply walking down the sidewalk with the same bag and purse in her hand.
He watched her come across the same boy who was looking around in a different store for the same toy. She stopped outside that building and stared through the glass doors until deciding to walk into the store and hand the boy the same bag. The boy's face lit up, taking the bag. He found the group of dinosaur figures that he was originally going to buy. But then underneath it, he also found a box of a giant, remote-controlled T-Rex along with it.
When the girl had finished giving it to the boy, she walked out from the store and spotted Ash staring back at her again. She looked back and walked up towards him.
She started the conversation hesitantly. "I... I saw what... I saw that boy give you that present." She shoved her hair behind her ear. "I want to say sorry."
"It's fine." He smiled at her, hiding something behind his back before bringing it back in front of him.
"I wanted to say sorry, too," Ash held out a group of flowers tied together.
The girl stood there, completely baffled. "Um..." she trailed off, looking at the petals of each flower before taking it into her hands. "Thank you."
Ash stared up and above her heard, his thoughts becoming much like a cotton candy machine. "You're the daughter of that woman, aren't you?"
The girl's eyes quickly shot up, her heart beginning to pound in her chest.
"I remember that incident... I'm sorry that that happened to you. I remember noticing you change your demeanor the week after that... whole thing." His eyes looked to the side.
"Yeah..." She looked back at the flowers, beginning to play at the tips and leaves at the stem of the flowers.
"I'm sorry," he repeated himself. "And I want to, uh, say thank you for giving that boy his present... and a... little bit more."
"It's fine... I took that present away from that boy... because... well, I don't even know. His family started to irritate me, I guess? God, that sounds so crappy. I'm sorry. I just. They reminded me of those... you know."
Ash stood there as he took it all in. "Those who caused the crash?"
She stood there silently. "That and the boy reminded me of a family." Tears began to swell in her eyes, but she stopped them by holding her hand out in front of her while her other arm hugged the flowers Ash had given to her closely. "My name is Serena, by the way."
Ash took her hand shook it "Hello, Serena." He smiled.
"Your name?" Serena asked.
"Ash. Ash Ketchum."
They gazed at one another, teeth showing and all as the young boy behind them watched their parents cry out of pure joy from their son's own, undying and beautiful light shining from his expression of happiness.
