pastel boy
super edgy text with seemingly hidden meaning that simply turns to nothing
When I first read this book, it only had a few chapters. Out of those few chapters, I got a good tease at a deeper story, that focused on the relationship of two, a contrast of opposites. I really did enjoy that first part of the book, but at the same time, I feel that I set my expectations too high for the latter half.
Starting off, one of the strongest, yet also weakest qualities of this short story is its writing. It keeps everything so vague, and a lot of random things are thrown in. These little things, were what had really gotten me excited. I was hoping that they would possibly be foreshadowing to the future events, but in the end it seems that they event to nothing.
Before I go any further, I just want to say that I actually did enjoy this book, and it wasn't 'bad'. Of course, it is also my job to point out the flaws of these pieces of literature, so here we go.
Continuing from two paragraphs up, the book builds up to this one event, of ash and serena being together, as if it is something that will never happen. They are just too opposite. This is really a good thing, as it makes the struggle of the story more on trying to achieve this goal, not a cliche bad guy. The only problem, is this immense struggle it had built up to, all really sums up to nothing. They just randomly get together, and parallel to that are randomly torn apart in later parts of the book.
I really think that this is a problem with amateur writing (like fanfiction) that there is no consequence to peoples action, and therefore the story doesn't seem real.
Other than that, I have no major problems with this book, and think that the premise was interesting. You should check it out if you are bored and want something quick to read, because behind its flaws it does really make you think, even if its your own mind doing that, not the story.
