9. ENCOUNTER

Lifting the file in his hand, RK flipped through the pages, eyes searching for a particular image. As he caught a glimpse of the sheet of his quest, his narrowed eyes scanned the page with a strange curiosity shining in the usually cold pair of eyes.

[So sanyogitaprc its_khushiiii Angelic_cutiee Aviskha_Deuri were right about the file;) Sorry I forgot to mention you initially guys!]

Thirty six years of age. Twelve years of working experience. Been working with the agency since eight years. Never missed a shot. Never failed a mission. Never been caught. Knows how to handle all types of rifles. Sharp eyed. A sharp shooter. Has worked for a couple of celebrities, civil officers, as well as underworld dons. An experienced and respected person in the agency. Has received honours for bravery and work.

An ironic laugh escaped his lips, as his eyes scrutinized the commendable profile of the person who was defeated effortlessly moments before, in front of his own eyes. The person who had lost. Lost his life in seconds and was now lying lifelessly in a pool of blood. Rajiv Verma. That was his name. A man with a meritorious record who had stepped under the disguise of a protector, and was here with the intentions to end his life. A man with a laudable performance, who was killed easily by the throw of a knife, by a woman to be specific.

Aryan may have his doubts and may not, but RK was sure who was behind all of it. Buying a security agent as experienced and respected as this Rajiv was and making him ditch his own agency which he had been working for since eight years wouldn't have been easy. And there was only person who could go to such extents to see him breathe his last. There was only one person who hated him so much. And only one person whom he despised utterly. Well, at least he thought so. With a personality like his, one could never tell. But there was only one person for sure, who had been trying to achieve the same through multiple methods and cheap tricks since a long time. The person who had tried to achieve it even today through the security agent. And it was HIM. Oh, if only he knew HIM any less he would've given shelter to doubts.

Shaking his head with the ironic smile still shining in his eyes, he was about to close the file, when the page he was scrutinizing got flipped suddenly by a sudden gust of air. However, the image on the next page immediately held his attention, which had been earlier dedicated to his saboteur.

Twenty two years of age. Three years of working experience. Has joined the agency recently. Never lost a fight. Knows how to handle swords, javelins, arbalest, and almost all types of rifles. Sharp senses. Quick witted. Sharp shooter. One of the youngest agents, still highly talented. Has no working experience as such, but Highly Recommended by the agency due to the extraordinary skills possessed. One of the best agents of the organisation.

RK raised his brow, eyes scanning through the details of... Where was the name written? Oh, there it was!

Prachi Arora.

The woman whose insolence shining in her fierce eyes annoyed him everytime he thought about her. What an irony it was here as well! A woman was being recommended to him. And that too the woman who had gotten into his nerves the minute he had laid his eyes on her. The woman whose face filled him with a strange fury each time. The woman who had deftly killed a highly experienced senior. The woman who had twice in a row saved his lif... Well, whatever.

Closing the file, he threw it gently, as it rotated once, before landing on the table. RK got to his feet, walking towards his room, never bothering to have another look at the file behind him.

The sun followed its routine, piercing gradually through the delicate blanket of darkness, spreading its wings slowly in all directions, marking the outset of another bright day amidst the chilly winds that could still somewhere be felt at this time of the year.

RK made his way towards the parking lot, with Aryan accompanying his steps. As he reached towards his car, one of the three men standing near it opened the passenger door for him.

"These are your guards, RK. They'll be accompanying you everywhere you go." Aryan informed him what he already knew in a stern as well as tensed voice. He had made sure to check each one of them as well as their details again and even more thoroughly, and had concluded them to be legitimate and trustworthy people. Well, he had considered Rajiv to be one as well, who apparently turned out to be a hitman. If only that woman had been with his brother, he would have been much more relaxed. But why? Even he didn't know that.

"They won't." RK declared, placing his elbow on the opened door.

"And may I know why?" Aryan raised a brow, somewhat annoyed at his stubbornness.

"Because certain places are private, Aryan. Grow up." RK shrugged, in an attempt to lighten his mood, as Aryan sighed once, shaking his head in disbelief, smiling slightly, while one of the guards chucked.

"What are you laughing at?" RK glared at the guard, who's laughter ceased abruptly, as he cleared his throat once.

"Was it a joke?" RK stared at him with a stern expression.

"No... No Sir." The man replied, scared at his first conversation with the boss, which did not seem to be a pleasant one.

"Of course it was, you idiot." RK shook his head in annoyance, as Aryan rolled his eyes at him.

"Of course. Nice joke sir." The man smiled.

"I know. You should know something too. Which is - flattery won't get you anywhere." RK informed him, making his smile vanish all of a sudden, as RK settled into the passenger seat.

"Take care. I'll be joining you after the meeting. The papers are ready as per your conditions and are with Mister Malhotra. He will be there in the cafe within twenty minutes, you won't have to wait. Just read them once, and finalise the deal with your signatures." Aryan said, before turning to the guards, while RK stared at him with an uninterested gaze, before rolling his eyes at him once, as the guard closed the door.

"My eyes will be on you. One mistake, and you won't be there to make another." He threatened, as the guards nodded once.

Glaring at the three of them, Aryan nodded, before gesturing his head towards the main door as a green signal for them to move, as the guards settled in another car. RK's vehicle soon began to speed through the metalled tracks, with the other one following his closely behind.

Aryan stared at the retreating structures, till they could no longer be seen, hoping for him to have chosen the right people this time, though he had himself checked their authenticity numerous times.

As RK entered through the automatic doors with the three men dressed in black near his heels, he was greeted by the owner of the shop with his most endearing smile, which was answered by a simple nod. The man led him through the side corridor to an isolated room, which had been specially designed for the special customers and had been dedicated to him for then. Greeting them once again, the owner went, while RK sat opposite to the man who was already waiting at the table for the encounter with the singer.

"You must be RK?" Asked Mr. Malhotra.

"And you must be a fool, asking that." RK replied, to which the man smiled.

"You're too funny, Mr. RK! Just what I had heard from Mr. Aryan about you." The man chuckled, annoying him.

Aryan had said he was funny? Funny out of everything? That man needed a better way to get people talk to RK.

"So what type of coffee do you like?" The man asked, searching for something, apparently the menu card.

"I like the one which involves not wasting my time." RK retorted. This man was annoying him.

"Yeah, yeah. Sure Mr. RK." The man chuckled again. "I really like your sense of humor you know."

"And I don't really like your sense of laughter you know." RK said with a stern voice, making the man's laughter dwindle immediately.

"Now if you and your chortles are over, can we talk about something important here?" RK placed his elbows on the table, keeping his hands erect, entwining his fingers, staring at him sternly.

"Of course! Why not! That's why we are here." Beamed Mr. Malhotra.

"Here. This is the contract." He forwarded the file to RK.

RK took the file, staring at the closed file for a second, before keeping it at the side with slight force, almost banging it.

"I want to see the song." He demanded, outstretching his palm.

"You'll get to see it once you have to sing it." The man smiled.

"That's not what I asked for. Working with me comes with rules. And disciplines. And the rule says you're supposed to show it to me beforehand." RK demanded.

"Oh, come on, RK! You'll get to know it as I said. Besides, this is not the first time our company is dealing with you. Don't you trust us this much?" Beamed Mr. Malhotra.

"No." RK replied instantly, making the smile vanish from Mr. Malhotra's face once again, as he gestured towards his outstretched hand.

Mr. Malhotra seemed to be tensed for a minute, but seeing no other option, he fished out another file from his suitcase. As his gaze was bouncing between RK and the file, he felt the file being snatched from his hand making him look up, only to find RK flipping through the pages already. And his expressions did not seem pleasant to him.

As his eyes scanned through the pages, an expression of annoyance as well as slight anger was visible on his face.

"This is what you called me for?" He raised a brow at the man.

"What's the problem?" The man asked, tensed.

"The problem is that this 'song' of yours is more like a poem a child wrote while he was intoxicated." He threw the file at the desk, making the man flinch back a bit.

"But it's been created by our new member." The man defended himself.

"First of all, it's not been 'created', it's more like a senseless bunch of words have been put together irrationally." RK raised a finger at him.

"But sir... " He began, only to be cut off by him.

"I don't see the point of this deal anymore. Your 'song' doesn't attract me, Mister. When dealing with RK, you should know the standard of which your work is expected to be. I don't believe how Aryan even considered you. Well, on the bright side, you still had a chance to meet me in person. You should be thankful to me." RK got up, walking past him, patting his shoulder at the last phrase.

"I don't believe you're a singer. Even a stray person knows the meaning of a 'rap'." Mr. Malhotra spat, unable to take this immediate rejection, making RK who was headed towards the exit, stop in his tracks.

He turned towards the seated man with a hard glare, making him somewhat frightened by his mere gaze. Approaching him once again, he stood close to the man, staring at him with furious eyes, before suddenly bending towards him, placing his hands on either of the arms of the chair on which he was seated.

"Do you know who you're talking to? Well, I don't believe you do, Mr. Malhotra. You're telling RK the meaning of singing? Well, I'll tell you what it means for me. Music for me doesn't mean rambling senseless words which hold no meaning of their own. It means defining your life in the form of a few words tied through the string of a beautiful melody. It doesn't mean mixing all the languages of the world that you know in a single piece, and chanting them without any head or tail. It means speaking just one language - language of your soul, that is enough to touch the souls of others. That is music for me. And that is what makes RK different from strays as well as beggars like you. And regarding your 'rap', I respect every form of music. I appreciate it, but I don't exhort it. You've got to know about me before daring to appear before me, Mister Malhotra." RK spoke through his clenched jaws, making the man break into a cold sweat. "And in case you're about to brag about the money matter, I don't believe in trading music. I believe in surrendering to it. I hope now you know enough of RK not to come with that piece of junk again."

Staring at the frightened man for a minute, RK turned to go, only to turn to him once again.

"Being the singer I am, I can do you a favour, though. That new member of yours, is of no use. Even this rap won't last long. May you save your company." He winked, before heading towards the exit, leaving behind the scared and disappointed man.

As he turned round the corner, another person suddenly appeared to be crossing the same area out of the blue, resulting into the collision of the duo. Bumping hard into each other, the lean figure seemed to have lost her balance, as she almost slipped, expecting her back to embrace the floor soon. However, she was held midway by a strong grip, holding her tightly by the waist.

As RK collided with the person, though slightly unbalanced himself, he felt as if the person was about to fall. Reflexively, his arms would around her waist.

Part of her face was covered by her hair falling across her face due to the sudden fall, and she was dressed in black. And he didn't need to see the concealed portion of her face to know who this woman was. He blew across the fallen tendrils slowly, as the hot breath on her skin made her open her eyes. And as she did, her gaze met his, which was staring into hers directly. And once again, RK was staring into those fierce eyes.

"Following me, huh?" RK said, breaking the long silence.

"I believe this cafe is not inside your little estate, so no." She replied.

"Don't you know how to look where you walk then, Miss Damsel?" RK narrowed his eyes.

"I surely know where to look when you walk, Mister Knight." Replied Prachi. "You were the one admiring your surroundings and walking. Don't you even know you should watch your steps and not others' beautiful faces while walking?" She said, as he frowned.

"Oh, nice response to a person who saves you from falling." He raised a brow at her.

"Learnt prom a person who's responses were similar to a person who saved him from dying." She shot back.

"I don't even know why I'm still holding you, insolent woman." He cocked a head, pretending to think, before removing his hands from around her waist. However, as she came slightly closer to the ground beneath, he once again caught her, staring into her eyes once again.

"Don't worry. I won't drop you. You'll break right?" He mocked.

"Well, you will break surely if you don't leave me." Spoke she, as he frowned once, helping her stand to her feet.

"Now move." She ordered.

"Excuse me?" He interrogated, raising his palm at a guard who was about to step in front.

"You excuse me. Move from my way, you're blocking it." She folded her hands across her chest.

"If only you had sense enough, Miss Damsel, you could see that you are the one standing in RK's way." He folded his palms, rubbing them a bit.

"And if only you had the brain to recognise that I was here before you." She spoke.

"And if only you had the knowledge to bridle your tongue before me." He clenched his jaws.

"I'm least interested in hearing the self praises of a snob like you, Mister Knight. I hope you would respect that. But will you really? Does a thankless, egoistic Knight know how to even spell 'respect'?" She taunted, as he balled his fists in anger, staring at her with a death glare. This annoying woman was getting on his nerves even more with each passing second.

"I'm not scared of that look, Mister Knight. And I hope you remember what I had said earlier - I'm hoping not to see faces of men like you again in my life. Remember? Or is it that your mind is too occupied by self praises and your little ego to remember important things? I hope you.. " Prachi was cut off suddenly, as she felt both her arms being surrounded in a tight grip.

RK, being unable to tolerate anymore of this woman's audacity, held her tightly by the arms, before pinning her harshly to the wall nearby, standing inches apart from her. She closed her eyes initially, feeling him moving her in the air with a great force. However, once her back collided hard with the wall, she opened her lids, only to be met by his fierce eyes burning with rage, staring at her, his hot, rapid breaths displaying the anger inside him brushing across her face.

"You 'hope' a little too much from life, Miss Damsel. If only YOU had known that life is full of disappointments. Your audacity and insolence really are laudable, though. And I have the perfect reward for both of them. Let me do the honours." He lifted a finger as he saw her open her mouth once, making it shut once again.

"I 'hope' you knew your limits. If only you had known them, you could've passed this golden opportunity, which is going to be not less than a damnation for you. I'll make sure it's not. You didn't 'hope' to see faces of men like me, right? Well, now I'll make sure you do, even in the worst of your dreams." RK gritted each word through his teeth slowly, while Prachi stared at him with confusion reflected on her face.

"Dear Damsel, Miss Prachi Arora, YOU have been appointed as my bodyguard, a very close personal one, from now on. Yes, you. From now on, you'll be behind me all the time. From now on, you'll speak when I ask you to. From now on, your insolence will lead to your own imprisonment behind the bars of RK's world. From now on, your only job will be, to watch me...everytime." RK spoke through his gritted teeth, staring at the woman with extremely fierce eyes carrying a raging fire inside them, breathing unevenly due to his sudden outburst. He finally gave vent to the anger and extreme fury that this woman's face filled his heart with everytime.

Wait, he did not have a heart, then where was this sheer hatred originating from??

Prachi stared at the man with her own fierce eyes. However, only this time, the fierceness and rage in his eyes seemed to overpower hers easily.

"And what makes you think I'd agree to that?" She enquired in a perfectly normal tone of her voice.

"Oh, you will. You sure will." Spoke RK, as she suddenly jerked her hands away, turning to go. However, his voice stopped her in her tracks, as she turned towards him.

"Miss Prachi Arora. Twenty two years of age. Lives alone supporting herself by the payment she receives from the agency. Has no working experience as such, no contacts in business. If she will be thrown out by her agency, how will she survive? Or worse, if she will be caught as a mole in her own agency or as trying to kill the very first celebrity she's protecting - RK - who will appoint you as 'bodyguards' in their companies? Well, all that won't be needed, since a gesture from my side would be enough to do so. Besides, I have paid your agency, and it has appointed you to me. I had ignored the fact earlier, but I won't now, and the fact is that you can't say a 'no' to me, you see? Miss Damsel??" He blabbered at one go, as she stared at him with the same emotions.

"Shocked? Don't be. I'm too good." He spoke, stepping closer to her once again.

"Now I'm 'hoping' to see you behind me immediately. Well, I'm not that cruel, Miss Damsel. You've fifteen minutes. Prepare yourself and reach my place if you can before me. And your work shall be started immediately. Otherwise... Well, even I don't know." He whispered close to her ear, as she stared straight ahead.

"Trying to threaten me?" She finally looked at him with the same fierce eyes.

"No no no no! Just showing you the face of the reality and the future your insolence has resulted into." RK spoke with the hint of an evil, merciless smirk in his tone.

Staring at each other for another minute with the same fierce eyes and different emotions, RK finally turned away, as his bodyguards, who had been standing at a slight distance till then, immediately hurried up to him.

"Tik tok! Tik tok! Tik tok!" His voice came from somewhere surrounded in between the armed men, as he lifted his index finger, swinging it back and forth simultaneously as he spoke.

Exiting through the automatic doors, RK entered his automobile with a sense of victory mixed with a strange emotion, before speeding towards his mansion, his eyes burning with rage, his usually cold expressions replaced by a strange anger mixed with a mirthless smirk, mind once again replaying that face of the insolent woman. While Prachi just stood there with the same expressions, staring in the direction he had just disappeared, mind replaying those words of the thankless man, both lost in thoughts of the recent encounter, which was going to change their lives completely.
