13. FIRSTS

"Your face is so annoying, Miss Arora, it gives me a headache to even look at you for more than a few seconds." RK spat, leaning back on the black leather of his large chair as he swiftly placed one of his ankles on his other knee. Resting his elbows on the handrests, he touched his temple as he spoke, staring at her with a hard expression on his face.

"At least you have a few seconds of relief, RK Sir. Think about me." Prachi stated as a matter of fact as she simultaneously touched her temple once before returning her hand to its position on top of the other hand outstretched behind her back.

RK clenched his jaws at her reply, irked by her words as well as her actions which had accompanied them as she had imitated his move.

"It's just the first day, and you already speak..A. Lot. Miss Arora. I wonder if your hands work as much as your filthy tongue does." Spoke he, cocking his head to the side. "Come on, bring your massaging skills to some use, in case you have them." RK rested his head on the headrest.

"And if I say, I don't?" Prachi interrogated with a firm tone.

"Then learn." RK replied immediately. "Miss, P.A." He added.

Staring straight into his narrowed eyes for a minute, Prachi moved towards his chair as he shut his lids seeing her arrival. Standing close to him, she stared at his face with an emotionless expression on hers before lifting her hands towards him.

"So desperate to touch me, are you?" RK mocked as he felt her approaching fingers cast a shadow over his eyes, lifting his lids slowly, his gaze aimed at a direction straight ahead.

"Excuse me?" Prachi raised a brow at his sudden remark with a hard glare.

"I don't remember giving you the permission to touch me, Miss." RK announced, turning his head towards her. "Your standards are not so high." Said he, his gaze scanning her from top to bottom at his last sentence.

"My standards are high enough that I'm standing here before you just because you are the one who needs me." Prachi replied curtly, making him harden his gaze.

"And it's you who is the needy one here right now. And you know what do you need?" RK raised a brow at her. "A pair of gloves before daring to touch me with those fragile fingers of yours. Put them on before even coming near me."

"That's a good idea, RK Sir." Prachi's firm tone seemed to have become a shade fainter, which made RK narrow his eyes at her before her next words compelled him to tighten his jaws in anger. "My standards really don't allow me to touch someone like you." Spoke she with the same fierceness both in her voice as well as her visage.

"Trying to act oversmart?" He spoke through his gritted teeth.

"Just agreeing with you. What's the problem now?" Demanded she, to which his eyes displayed an even stronger hue of sheer annoyance and anger.

A knock at the door caused RK's parted lips which were about to serve his next reply, abut themselves harshly.

"Come in." Ordered he, his gaze never leaving hers.

As soon as the familiar voice granted him a much awaited permission, the man who had been pacing up and down the corridor of RK's cabin since a total of fifteen minutes now finally took a deep breath, mustering all his courage before gently pushing the large door open.

As soon as his eyes caught the view before him, he gulped hard in fear. RK who was sitting on his chair was staring intently at the person standing before him with nothing but an intense anger spreading across his features. A sight new for none who have met him before. But what shocked him was that the person, a woman to be precise, was staring back at him with an equal fierceness in her eyes. Not the most ideal view to be spotted near RK.

"Speak." RK's voice pulled him out of his musings. His gaze which had been flickering between the two people before him was now caught by the voice and glued to its owner. The owner who was still staring in that girl's direction, but he was wise enough to know the words were directed to him.

He had prepared speeches in the fifteen minutes he spent outside, only to forget the first word of it all just by a glance of his face. RK didn't seem in the most pleasant of his moods today. Wait, what was he even thinking? Was there even a 'pleasant mood' for him in the first place? Or anything 'pleasant' for that matter? He often wondered if RK himself had ever seen his own self involved in something containing the word 'pleasant'. Of course, he hadn't.

And what was with this girl? Wasn't she scared of him? At all? How could she even dare to look at him directly? Specially when his entire gaze is just on her. And that too, in the eyes? He didn't like this girl from the very first time he saw her only moments ago. And why would he? She was just a random person who just walked in and snatched his most 'prestigious' job from him in a jiffy with great ease. He even wondered who was she in the first place. Was she someone related to RK? But how? That man having a family hardly seemed a possibility. And what seemed as a really good possibility was him getting a nice dose here. God. Did he enter at a wrong time? Should he leave?

"You may pick your standards and leave, but you know what? Your standard is such that you can't even do so without my permission in the first place." A voice resembling RK's announced, once again breaking his long chain of thoughts.

"So-sor-sorry-sorry, S-Sir. So sorry, I'm rea-really very sor-sorry. You are absolutely right. Of course you'd-you'd be since you are always right. So you're always right." The man stuttered an involuntary reply. Though this time, he wasn't wise enough to know who were the words aimed at. How on earth could RK know his inner thoughts? However, he was still wise enough to not keep him waiting and answer as quickly as he could.

He noticed the girl turn her gaze away from RK as he stepped closer to him with his words while she stepped a couple of feets away, standing next to his table as she stared straight ahead with an alarmed posture.

"I-I know, Sir." He continued, taking RK's silence as a positive - well, not negative - sign. "

That's why-why I came to you right now. Nothing happens he-here without y-your permission. I entered the cabin with your permission, and I will take all my st-standards and leave if you say too. Cuz you-you are you, and you are al-always right." Prachi moved her eyeballs towards him, scanning him from top to bottom with a hard gaze which didn't go unnoticed by him, who felt even more scared and uncomfortable now.

RK too turned his vision from the woman to the man now, staring at him with his hard expressions as always.

"What gives you the courage to come here, Mister? What part of 'You are fired' did you not get?" RK interrogated, arching a brow at him.

"Sir, actually I--You remember me??" Dhruv's eyes showed a mixture of shock and happiness. Even after being with RK for around half a month as a personal assistant, he didn't even think he knew his name. At least he wouldn't have to introduce himself to him once again.

"You may not be worthy enough for me to remember you. But I do have a good memory." Replied RK with the same hard mask on his features.

"Of course, Sir. There's n-n-no doubt in th-that." Dhruv chuckled nervously, looking at the ground only for a look back at RK's face to halt his laughter abruptly.

"Ahem ahem.. Sir ac-actually, Aryan Sir has hired me once again." Spoke Dhruv, with a nervous smile to which RK narrowed his eyes.

"No, no. I mean, he has -he has said that Miss-" Dhruv stopped mid sentence turning to look at Prachi  trying to remember her name, half expecting either of the two people before him to help her, but in vain. The two pair of eyes still stared at him with the same emotions. Embarrassed, he continued with his words hurriedly.

"-her. Miss her-I mean, sh-sh-she. She is new here and that the work load has ju-just been increasing recently. So, he has not fi-fired me, but appointed her with me. I'll-I'll be working as her assistant now though. I mean, n-not literally, just that I'm here to assist her and help her with the works. So, he said I'll be f-following her orders now." Dhruv stammered, though he felt relived at the fact that he was finally done with his little explanation.

"And you're happy about that?" RK narrowed his eyes at him.

"Of-of course I am, Sir. Wh-who won't be, working for you? I-I am very happy." Dhruv tried to give a small smile, scratching the tip of his nose in nervousness.

"People like you, Mister. People like you." RK said with a clearly feigned pity in his tone which perplexed Dhruv for a moment. "Well, handling such things is not my department." He continued. "You may carry on with your work of following her orders." He concluded, never bothering to turn to the person mentioned in the conversation.

"Tha-thank you s-so much, Sir. I-" A hyperventilated Dhruv jumped in excitement.

"Hold your horses!" RK almost yelled in a highly annoyed voice, making the man flinch. "First. Of. All. Learn to speak straight before me, I don't have so much of time to waste on the replication of your multiple words. Consider yourself lucky I'm still talking to you. And if you find it hard to do that, then hold your tongue before me too. I think I can live without hearing you." The threatening shades of his voice covered Dhruv's forehead with droplets of sweat.

"Now, you may begin." Declared RK.

Dhruv chose to stay silent for he was afraid of repeating the same mistake again, whose chances were really high. Wiping his forehead, he began to move towards RK's table with his vision aimed at the files lying on them when a sudden hand appearing horizontally before him blocked his view, stopping him in his tracks as a new voice simultaneously filled his ears.

"Just a second, Mister."

He looked up to find Prachi standing a step closer to RK from where she was standing before. Her fierce eyes stared into his unblinkingly, making the poor man scared of the people before him once again. It was her hand - her forearm raised in the air horizontally, making an angle of ninety degrees with her upper arm, placed right before RK who was still seated next to her - as if protectively.

"Would you mind me cross checking your words, first?" Asked Prachi, to which the man simply stared at her while Prachi's extended arm was at the receiving end of RK's hard glare.

"Very well. I'm taking it as your consent to do the same." Said she, almost immediately.

Successfully ignoring RK's glare, she then moved her other hand towards the pocket of her jeans, fishing out her cellphone.

"Good morning, Sir. The assistant-" She began shortly after pressing the cellphone to her ear.

"Very well, Sir. Thank you.", were the words following her first statement before she disconnected the call, returning her cellphone to its original place.

"Now, you may begin for sure." Informed she lowering her outstretch arm as she repeated RK's words once again.

"Take these files and move to the left area of the room." Prachi ordered, pointing towards the documents at RK's table.

"Y-you mean we'll work h-here?! Before h-him?!" Dhruv stuttered once more, regretting his action as soon as the words left his mouth.

However, before RK's words could hit him, it was another voice that reached his ears.

"Yes, that's exactly what I mean, Mister Dhruv. Now if you would like to move..." It was Prachi who replied before RK could, gesturing towards the said area with her hand as Dhruv followed her instructions, moving clumsily.

"Who do you think of yourself?" RK stared at her with a blend of anger and vexation which made her turn towards him once again.

"Your P.A., Sir. And if you're talking about me trying to protect you, then your P.B. as well." Prachi spoke the later part in a low voice, audible to only the two of them. Well, far beyond the reach of the third person present at the father side of the room, to be specific.

"Now if you excuse me." Spoke she, never giving him a chance to reply once again.

Turning towards the other side, Prachi marched up to Dhruv who could be seen seated on the couch at the farthest corner of the extraordinarily large room, arranging the files on the table before him while RK stared at her retreating figure with fresh hues of infuriation covering his chocolate brown eyes as well as his attractive features.

As Dhruv closed the cabin door behind him, Prachi could once again be spotted standing next to RK's chair while her arrival induced a sense of exasperation in his veins.

His fingers which had been clutching the cover of an opened file before him tightened their grips on the poor material in anger as he hardened his jaws. Why does she always have to be standing right on his head?! A company of someone was not even the last thing he would prefer, her being the one being out of the option. And here she was, irritating him with her insolent presence every second of the day. Such an annoying woman!

RK suddenly released the cover from his hold abruptly with a jerk, throwing his fingers in an anti clockwise direction as Prachi heard a loud noise piercing the silent atmosphere for the first time.

Turning her gaze towards the source of the sound - which was precisely towards RK's direction - Prachi saw large chunks of thick black glass shattered on the floor, lying in a pool of a dark brown liquid.

"Oops. My coffee." RK's words caused Prachi to lift her gaze from the ceramic pieces to the man sitting before her, only to find her staring at her with an undecipherable expression.

"Your bad, Miss Arora. Even the poor liquid couldn't stand your presence. Would you like to-" Began he, only to be cut off by her.

"Bring you another coffee? Why don't you just dial some useful numbers?" Demanded Prachi.

"First of all, don't you ever dare interrupt me." RK gritted his jaws, speaking in a grave tone. "And secondly, do you really think I would ever consume something touched by your filthy fingers? You are really an optimistic person, I must say."

"I don't like repeating things, Miss Arora. Get that in your thick head. I'm not done yet." RK raised a finger at her when he saw her about to speak something.

"So, Miss Optimistic, choosing time over. Clean the mess. And it's not a question this time." Stated RK as their gazes remained glued to each other's.

"I'm sorry to crush your little ego again, Sir. But this is not my job." Prachi informed him with a blank expression across her features.

"Your job is to do what I say, Miss Assistant." RK cocked his head to the side, narrowing his eyes and clenching his jaws at her reply.

"Right, Sir. Assistant. Not servant. I'm not your servant, so I am not obliged to behave as one as well." Prachi declared, lifting her gaze from him as she now stared straight ahead.

"Is it?" RK stood to his feet, throwing his chair in the backward direction in anger as he stood up, staring at the feminine figure with an intense fury before he continued, slowly stepping closer to her.

"What you are here, you are no one to decide that. That's something I decide. For people having the courage to stand before me. Servant or assistant - this is just a first, the start of it all. And you-" RK threatened her, as a shrill noise coming from something nearby caught his attention.

"Speak." He picked up his cellphone that had been lying on the table, placing it to his ear. However, in the entire process, neither did the look of fury and fierceness left his face nor did his eyes reflecting the same left hers staring back at him with her own fierce ones.

"It's time for you to leave now. Go home straight away, I'll be joining you in an hour or two." Aryan's voice spoke from the other side.

RK disconnected the call without another word as he stared at her for long minute, before turning towards his table.

"Wrap up everything." Ordered he, as he bent over his table, grabbing a pen from the holder before adorning the bottom of the paper he was recently reading with his signatures.

Turning back to Prachi's direction, he saw her keep a file on his table before taking a couple of steps backwards, removing herself from his tracks.

"That's exactly what you are, you know. That's where your standards are, Miss Arora. That's where you belong, and that's what you will do. Walk behind me everytime. Follow me everywhere I go. That's who you are, and that's who you will be." RK spat, speaking each word clearly, staring straight into those fierce eyes once again.

Making his way towards the exit, he never bothered to look behind while Prachi stared at his retreating figure, before doing what he had just said - following him.

"Is it confirmed?" A man with a hoarse voice interrogated.

"Yes, Sir. We just received the information." One of the men standing before him informed him with a devilish smirk.

"Amazeballs. Be prepared, RK. I won't keep you waiting for the first war of this battle." The man spoke as he took a sip of his wine, before bursting into a guttural laugh.

The first day almost seemed to be over. The sun could no longer be traced as a disc in the sky. Though, the hues of the warm rays of the sun still painted the colourless frame surrounding it with tints of yellow, orange and light crimson - yellow still being the prominent one. As RK stepped out of the large glass doors, a gentle gush of wind touched his figure lightly, ruffling his hair as he moved towards his automobile parked right before the porch. The expensive black vehicle shone even more being wrapped in the glory of the setting sun.

As he had made his way to the ground floor, the people walking behind him had gradually increased in number. The various ones he had brought with himself in the morning joined his back at the same positions where they had left him before being dispersed through the huge building at the start of the day.

The guards had bowed to him when he had crossed the doors, and Prachi, being right at his heels all through the while had scanned almost each of them with a stern gaze as she moved past them, just as she had scanned her surroundings during their arrival.

As the vehicle drew closer, four of the eight guards behind him jogged towards the vehicle standing before his, while the other three made their way towards the one behind his - the last one of the slot of the three automobiles present there.

The vehicle was still a feet away from him when he felt a sudden force on his arm, before feeling some fingers wrap around it tightly. In a fleeting moment, he saw something black move past him swiftly, before the force on his arm pulled him in the forward direction.

Concurrently, a few things happened in an instant. RK got pulled in the forward direction as a result of the sudden, unexpected move. He found himself crashing to something hard before him. His eyes immediately caught sight of the woman standing before him, inches apart from him, as both of them stood there close to each other, facing each other, with Prachi's back smashed against his car due to the extent of the force, while RK was smashed on top of her due to the same. Her eyes stared at him with the ever present fierceness in them. And once again, he was staring into those fierce, insolent pair of eyes. Never had a woman been so close to him - physically. Never had he stared into something so intently. It was all, a first.

The instant realisation dawned on him that she, who was standing behind him, had suddenly ran past him and pulled him towards herself, causing him to lose her balance, and them to land crushed to each other.

"WHAT THE-" He yelled, staring at her with a death glare, only to be stopped mid sentence by a loud noise from somewhere near him - that of a gunshot to be precise.
