The Berlitz Conspiracy

(Serena's pov)

I was shocked. A private matter? What on earth could that mean? I guess I should have known there was more to Calem's visit than just a check up. I nodded and turned around to Ash.

"Sorry Ash, I'll see you later." I said.

Ash lightly smiled.

"I understand, see you later Serena." He replied.

At that, I got into the limo and we drove away. We were both silent for a few seconds, until Calem spoke.

"Serena, I'm sorry to ask this of you. But you see, there are a few people who I need you to monitor for me." Calem said.

"Monitor? Who are they and what have they done?" I replied.

Calem pulls out a tablet. He types a few words, swipes it a few times, and then hands it to me. On the screen there are pictures of a familiar boy and girl.

I gasped and put my hand on my mouth.

"Calem....what is this? What is going on!?" I asked, shocked and confused.

"Tell me Serena, are you familiar with the Berlitz family?" Asked Calem.

(Ash's pov)

After Serena had left to go with her brother, I was making my way back to the dorms.

'Man, I don't think I've ever been that nervous before in my life. I can't imagine how he would've reacted if I would have said I was Serena's roommate.' I thought as a chill went down my spine.

I figure that there won't be much of a study session tonight. Oh well, I guess I can glance over some of my History, I don't really need Serena's help much there. I was almost to the dorms when I saw a girl about my age walking down the side walk. She was absolutely gorgeous. She had long lemon blonde hair, emerald green eyes, extremely fair skin, and she wore a pure white sundress and sun hat. She was frantically looking around and judging by the look on her face she was totally lost. I walked over to her.

"Um, excuse me, are you lost?" I asked.

"Eek!" The girl said.

The girl turned to me quickly, then fell back onto the ground. I must have spooked her. I quickly extended my hand to her.

"Sorry! I didn't mean to scare you." I said.

She shook her head.

"No, it's fine. I really should have been paying more attention to my surroundings." She said as she took my hand.

I helped her up and she brushed herself off.

"So, do you maybe need help finding something? Oh, and my name's Ash by the way." I said.

"A pleasure to meet you Ash, my name is Lillie. You wouldn't happen to know where the KNA dorms are, would you?" She asked.

Wait....really? She's looking for the dorms? We're right outside the dorms!

I pointed to my right. She looked in the direction I was pointing and her face turned tomato red from embarrassment.

"O-oh, you don't say. So...It's been right there...all along huh..." She said, laughing awkwardly.

"Yep, I can see why you might have gotten confused though. They don't exactly look like your conventional dorms." I said, trying to cheer her up.

"Indeed, they look more like a parliament building or something. Thank you for your help, who knows how long it would have taken me to figure that out. See you later Ash." Lillie said smiling.

I smiled.

"Hey, it's no problem. You take care!" I said.

Lillie made her way into the dorms. I started to walk that way too, when I heard Serena's voice behind me.

"And who is she?" Serena asked, and she didn't sound happy.

I whipped around to see Serena standing there with her hands on her hips. Was she really that jealous?

"Oh her? Her name is Lillie, she just needed some directions." I said.

Serena narrowed her eyes, but quickly softened her expression.

"I see. Sorry for leaving you like that earlier." She said.

"It's fine Serena, I know you haven't seen your brother in a while. But I gotta say, I really expected you to be gone longer than you were." I said.

Serena fidgeted her feet.

"Uh, Calem said he had to get back to work, so we had to cut our visit short." Serena said.

Was she hiding something? I should probably just go with it for now.

"I gotcha, that makes sense. So, are you ready for today's study session?" I said.

Serena smiled lightly and nodded.

"Sure." She said.

We made our way back to our dorm. Serena looked very bothered. I don't like seeing her like this, but I get the feeling she might not tell me if I asked. When we got back to the dorms Serena closed the door and locked it behind her.

"Ash...can we talk?" Serena asked, still facing away.

"Of course, what's on your mind?" I asked.

Serena turned and looked at me.

"It's Paul and Dawn, they may be in danger!"

(Ash's pov)

I was in complete shock at what Serena had just said. Dawn and Paul in danger? Was that the "private matter" Calem wanted to talk to her about? I was so helplessly confused.

"I...I don't understand, in danger? What do you mean Serena?" I asked.

Serena had a hesitant look, like she was considering whether or not she should have brought the matter up to me. Her expression turned serious, she walked over to her bed and sat down. She gestured for me to do the same, and I did.

"Ash, you have to promise me. Not as your friend, but as Serena Yvonne, Princess of the Kalos Region. Promise me that you will NEVER tell a soul about what you're about to hear. If you do, you will be arrested for leaking confidential information." Serena said very seriously.

I was hesitant to answer, this was all do sudden. I haven't seen this side of Serena before. She's actually acting like a princess. I really didn't know how to respond to this situation. Is this something that I should get involved with? Part of me wanted to tell her to drop the subject. But, the other part of me knew that Dawn and Paul are going to need help, and Serena wouldn't have even mentioned it if she didn't need help as well. After a few moments of careful thought, I made my decision.

"I swear, Princess Serena." I said.

Serena nodded and smiled lightly.

"Thank you Ash, truly. Now, listen very closely, what you are about to hear is what is known as The Berlitz Conspiracy." Serena said.

And with that, Serena began to fill me in on everything Calem had told her.

(Flashback) (Serena's pov)

"Tell me Serena, are you familiar with the Berlitz family?" Asked Calem.

"Y-yeah, I've heard of them, they are a very wealthy family from the Sinnoh region. What is this about, Calem? And what does this have to do with Paul and Dawn?" I asked, still confused.

"I take it that your two friends haven't shared their last name with you. Well, those two are from the Berlitz family." Calem said.

"You're right they hadn't, and I do find it to be surprising to learn that. But, I still don't understand the point you're trying to make." I said, starting to get a little frustrated.

"Sorry, I just wanted to make sure you knew. Scroll down on that tablet." Calem said.

I did just that, and what I saw made me gasp.

Intelligence report (C)

Berlitz Conspiracy

After a series of investigations into the recent actions of the Berlitz family and their financial allies, we the Kalos Bureau of Investigation have determined that the Berlitz family are planning to seize control of the Kalos National Academy. As of now, their means and motivation are unknown. However, according to the KNA administration, there have been two members of the Berlitz family admitted into the KNA.

Paul Berlitz

Age: 15

Dawn Berlitz

Age: 14

It is of the utmost importance that these two remain under strict surveillance for the duration of the current investigation. Failure to do so could result in the loss of the Kalos National Academy and everything the institution has worked to accomplish.

-KBI

I couldn't believe what I was looking at. Both Paul and Dawn are potential suspects of a crime? What in the world is going on!?

"There...there must be some kind of a mistake, there has to be! I mean, their just high-school students! I especially can't see Dawn playing a part in this!" I yelled.

Calem sighed.

"Serena, may I ask you something? How long have you known these two?" Calem asked.

"Not long, I just met Dawn today." I said.

"Hmmm, I see. Serena, I don't mean to belittle you, but that is an extremely naive statement. You barely know these people, and you have more faith in them than the KBI?" Calem said.

I was about to respond, but I paused. I knew Calem had a point. But, there was just something wrong with all of this.

"That's not what I'm saying Calem. Of course I trust the KBI, I just think that Paul and Dawn may not even know about this plot." I said.

Calem pondered that for a moment.

"There is a possibility of that, and believe me I had considered it myself. However, the fact remains that they are potential suspects and it is crucial that we treat them as such." Calem said.

I sighed.

"You're right, so what am I supposed to do about it?" I asked.

"I was getting to that. All I need you to do is keep an eye on them." Calem said.

"Wait, I thought you were going to arrest them." I said.

"Of course not, we have no incriminating evidence on those two. That's what I need you to find for me. So what do you say, little sister?" Calem said.

I thought for a moment. I didn't like the idea of stalking Paul and Dawn, but if the school is in danger I have to do something!

"Alright, I'll help you." I said.

Calem smirked.

"Good to hear. All you need to do is submit a weekly report on their behavior. Thanks for your help Serena." Calem said.

"You're welcome big brother. You know I would do anything to protecting the people of Kalos." I said with a smile.

"I know you would, you are truly a wonderful princess." Calem replied.

"Sir, ma'am, we have arrived at the dormitories." Said the driver.

I looked out the window, and I felt a feeling well up in my chest. It was Ash...with a girl!? Who's she!?? A pout formed on my face, which Calem noticed immediately. He chuckled a little.

"So Serena, are you sure that boy is JUST a classmate?" He asked.

I quickly shot a glare over to him.

"Uggg, shut up Calem!" I said.

(End of Flashback)

"And that's all. Did you get all that?" I said.

I finished telling Ash everything Calem and I had discussed. Minus the last bit that is. I could tell by the look on his face that he wasn't quite expecting all of that.

"Y-yeah, I think so. It's just a lot to take in." Ash said.

"I figured it might be. You know, you don't have to involve yourself in this if you don't want to-" Ash cut me off.

"Serena, if you didn't need my help you wouldn'thave brought it up. If the school is in danger then of course I can't stand by and do nothing! I'm here for you everystep of the way." Ash said with determination.

I blushed at that, Ash was such a wonderful person, a wonderful friend. I started to regret bringing this up to Ash. There's always the slightest possibly that he could get hurt if he gets involved with this. If he he did, I don't know what I would do! I shook away my negative thoughts and smiled at Ash.

"Thank you Ash. I knew I could count on you." I said gratefully.

Ash gave me a thumbs up.

"You bet Serena. Now, when do we begin?" Ash asked, he sounded like he was actually thrilled.

"Well, let's start tomorrow. We can start by tailing them to and from school." I said.

Ash nodded.

"Sounds like a plan!" Ash said.

"Good, now that we've got that settled, let's get started with your studies shall we?" I said.

"Yes mom." Ash said sarcastically.

I rolled my eyes and let out a giggle.

(Ash's pov)

After a few hours had passed, we had finished studying and got ready for bed. It was 10 p.m. now and Serena had already fallen asleep and I could tell I was about to do the same.

'Man, I can't believe I'm actually involved in a confidential investigation. I guess there's never a dull moment here. I just hope I'm not getting in over my head here. Even so, if it's for Serena, I really don't mind. I'm just glad she trusts me enough to ask for my help.' I thought.

I yawned and rolled over.

'I bet if Gary found out about this he wouldn't know what to think. He'd probably be super jealous. Speaking of which, I wonder what he's up to...' I thought as I drifted off to sleep.
