Realizations
(Serena's pov)
Ash and I made our way back to our room. When we got inside we both plopped down on our beds and sighed.
"Well, I'd say that today was pretty fun, wouldn't you say Serena?" Said Ash.
"Yeah, today was one of the best days of my life! I had the honor of giving the speech at the opening ceremonies, I met lots of new friends, and got to try some amazing new food!" I said.
Ash chuckled.
"Well, that's good. I take it you didn't get to experience much of this at the castle. The only real social life I had was with my mother, my servers, and my self-defense instructor. Plus, like I said before, I was home schooled my whole life, so this is all new to me." I said.
"I see, so you came here to get away from that kind of confinement? Ash asked.
"Yep, that's exactly it. I was so scared at first, but meeting you and having the experiences I had today, I know now that I have nothing to worry about. So, thank you Ash." I said with a smile.
I noticed a little cute blush on Ash's face.
"Oh it's no problem at all, I'm glad I was able to help." He said bashful like.
I felt so warm all of a sudden, why do I keep getting this feeling around him? I need to go take a shower and clear my mind.
"Hey Ash, I'm going to go take a shower." I said a little more quickly than usual.
I stood up and was about to walk into the bathroom, but suddenly...
*CRACK
It was a booming thunder clap!
"EEEEEK!!" I yelled.
I found myself jumping into Ash's arms and burying my face in his chest and crying.
"S-Serena!? Are you okay?" He said concerned.
"I-I'm sorry, I just hate t-thunder!" I said.
I felt Ash stroke the back of my head to comfort me.
"It's okay Serena, I've got you. You'll be just fine." He said in a comforting voice.
I could hear his heart beating, and sure enough my heart started to race as well. I looked up into his eyes, and he was looking back into mine. In that moment it became clear what that feeling I have is. I may have only known him for a couple of days, but there's no doubt that what I feel is...

Love...
(Ash's pov)
Serena and I sat there in silence, just gazing into each other's eyes.
'Oh man, I hope she can't hear my heart beating.' I thought.
"U-uhm..." I said.
Something snapped in Serena's mind because she started to stand up.
"O-oh my gosh, I'm s-sorr-" She started to say, before being interrupted by another loud thunder clap.
All of a sudden the power went out.
"EEEEEEK!"Serena screamed.
Serena slipped and fell, but I caught her. I had closed my eyes when she fell, and when I opened then again, I froze. Serena's face was barely two inchs from mine. My brain went numb, and I felt myself become lost in her eyes, her beautiful ocean blue eyes. I slowly started to lean in and Serena did the same.
Our lips were mere millimeters apart.
I readied myself for the sensation of Serena's lips. That is, until we were suddenly interrupted.
*KNOCK *KNOCK
"Hello in there, it's me Bianca! I have some candles to use until the power comes back on." Said Bianca, who was knocking at the door.
Serena quickly jumped off of me, jumped in her bed and threw the covers over herself in embarrassment.
'Darn you Bianca, way to spoil the moment!!' I thought in my head.
I walked over to the door, grabbed the candles from Bianca, thanked her, and closed the door. I then lit up two candles and placed one on each of our desks. I turned to Serena, she still had her head covered.
'Were we really about to kiss?' I thought.
I started to feel a little worried all of a sudden, what if she was mad at me?
"Hey...Serena?" I asked nervously.
She didn't respond.
'Oh man, now she's mad at me. How could I be so stupid! She's a freaking princess for crying out loud!" I thought, wanting to hit myself in the head with an iron skillet.
"Listen Serena, I'm really sorry if I upset yo-" I started to say.
"No!" She said a little louder than usual.
I flinched a little.
"I-I mean, I'm not upset with you." Said Serena, her head still covered.
I was so surprised, I was certain she would mad. I mean, we only met yesterday and I just tried to kiss her.
"Y-you're really not?" I asked.
Serena pulled the covers away from her face a little.
"Mhm." She said.
I could see she was still blushing heavily. She looked so adorable.
I was about to say something, but there was yet another thunder clap.
"Eeek! I hate this stupid weather!!" Serena yelled, covering her face up again.
'I wonder why she's so afraid of thunderstorms...' I thought.
I knelt down beside her bed.
"Serena, if you don't mind me asking, why are you so scared of thunderstorms?" I asked.
She pulled the covers away from her face again, then sighed.
"When I was around 6 years old, I snuck out of the castle to play. It felt so nice to be outside, I had such a great time! That is until I got lost in the forest nearby. I ran and ran trying to find my way out, but I only managed to get myself more lost than before. That's when it started to storm. I took refuge in a hollowed out log. I was hoping to wait it out, but a bolt of lighting struck a tree next to me, the force sent me flying and the tree was ignited. Even though it was pouring down rain, the fire continued to spread. I was so scared, but thankfully I was saved." She said.
"Who saved you?" I asked.
"A young boy, around my age. I never got to ask his name, but I owe him my life." She said.
I froze after hearing that.
'Wait a second, why does that sound so familiar? I feel almost like I was there.' I thought to myself.
"Serena, what did this boy look like?" I asked seriously.
Serena looked confused at the change of tone.
"Well, I didn't really get a good look at him. All I remember is that he had black hair and he told me something I'll never forget. He said-" Serena said, before I cut her off.
"Don't give up until it's over...." I said.
Serena shot up out of bed, her eyes wide open and her hands covering her mouth.
"Ash, how did you...?" She asked in shock.
There was no doubt about it.
"Serena, I think I was that boy!" I said.
(Serena's pov)
I was in shock. This was real, right? That boy, the boy that saved my life, was really Ash!? I felt tears run down my face. Ash lookedat me with concern.
"Serena, what's wrong? Why are you crying?" He asked.
"It's just, I'm just s-so happy. These are tears of joy." I said.
I reached out and took one of Ash's hands and clasped it in mine.
"Ash, you have no idea, how long I have waited for this moment. The moment I get to finally meet my hero and thank him for saving my life." I said.
"Serena..." He said.
I smiled the biggest and brightest smile I could.
"Ash, thank you." I said.
He was at a loss for words. He looked like he wanted to say something, but he couldn't. I felt my heart begin to beat fast again, faster than a moment ago when we almost....kissed.
'Should I tell him how I feel? Will he think it's weird that I fell in love with him so quickly?" I thought to myself.
I desperately didn't want to waste this moment. Forget my being a princess, I'm going to tell him.
"Ash....Ash I-"
*BBBBOOOOMMM
A monstrous thunder clap roared.
I screamed again and covered my head with my blanket.
'Stupid thunder, go ruin someone else's moment!' I thought angrily.
Ash places his hand on my shoulder.
"It's alright Serena, I'm here for you." He said in a comforting voice.
I immediately felt all of my fear leave me. He made me feel so safe. All of a sudden the power came back on.
We both sighed in relief.
"And let there be light!" Ash said with a smile.
"Y-yeah, let's just hope it stays that way." I said.
"No kidding. By the way, what time is it?" Ash asked.
That was a good question, we got so caught up in our moment that I didn't even think to keep track of time. I reached over and checked my phone.
"Wow it's already 10!? We had better get ready for bed!" I said.
"Yeah, we wouldn't want to be late on our first day of class. You can go ahead and take a shower first." Said Ash.
"Thanks!" I said.
On that note, I grabbed my pajamas and went into the bathroom. I hopped into the shower and took a moment to enjoy the warm water on my skin.
'Ahhh, I needed this.' I thought.
I felt my mind begin to wonder.
'It's still so hard to believe, that Ash was the one who saved me all those years ago. It's all so cliché, falling in love with my rescuer. I would have told him too, if it wasn't for that stupid thunder. I wonder, does he fell the same?' I thought to myself.
I put a finger on my lips and began to blush.
'Wait, we did almost.....kiss. So, maybe he does!' I thought, my blush growing.
I leaned my back against the wall and looked up at the ceiling.
'Stupid hormones...'
(Ash's pov)
After Serena went to take her shower, I decided that it might be a good idea to give Mom a call. If it's 10 here in Kalos, it should be 6 back in Kanto, so I'm sure it won't be a bother. I walk over to my desk, grabbed my phone and dialed Mom's number. It only rang twice before she picked up.
"ASH!!" Mom yelled, causing me to flinch a little.
"Hey Mom, hows it going?" I said.
"Hows it going!? I shouldbe asking you that! Have you gotten yourself settled? Have you been eating right? Have you been changing your underwear everyday?" She said.
I had moved my ear away from the phone to save my hearing from her verbal bombardment. I knew that she was just being a Mom, but I wish she would cit me a little slack.
"Mom please, I'm doing just fine. You have nothing to worry about." I said.
She took a deep breath and exhaled a heavy sigh.
"I'm sure you're right honey, but your all I have, so I can't help it if I get a little bit worried." She said, causing me to smile.
"I know Mom. How are things going back home?" I asked.
"Things are good, just a little bit lonely without you around. But don't worry about me, you earned going to that school after all." She said.
I sweat-dropped, and cringed mentally. Why do people have to keep saying stuff like that!?
"Uhh yeah, I sure did." I said laughing awkwardly.
"So how have you been doing? I'm dieing to hear about the Academy!" She said.
"Oh it's amazing!" I said.
I then went on to tell mom everything about the trip, the city, the academy, and the dorms. Then, she asked me the question I was afraid of.
"So, do you have a roommate?" She asked.
"Uhh..."
I paused, should I tell her that my roommate is a girl, scratch that, a princess! I think it might be for the best to keep that on the down low.
"Yeah, I have a roommate." I said.
"Well, is he nice?" She asked.
I'm probably going to regret this, but she can't know Serena is my roommate.
"Uh yeah, he's awesome!" I said.
I suddenly started to feel a dark aura feel the room.
"HE!?"
'Uh-oh...' I thought.
I turned around to see a very angry Serena.
"Sorrymomgottagoloveyoubye!!" I said quickly.
"Wait Ash, was that a gi-" Mom started to say before I hung up.
Serena just stood there glaring at me with her hands on her hips.
"H-hey Serena, how was your shower?" I asked, hoping to change the subject.
But who am I kidding.
"Oh no you don't mister, you've got some nerve calling ME a he!" She said taking a step forward.
My gosh this girl is scary when she's mad. I took a step back.
"W-w-wait Serena, I can explain." I said fearing for my life.
She took another step.
"Well, I'm all ears Ash." She said.
"That was my mom on the phone, I couldn't just tell her I have a girl for a roommate! She would freak!" I said, clenching my eyes and covering my face in case she decided to give me a slap.
"O-oh, is that true?" She asked.
"Yes! Why wouldn't it be?" I said.
Her face went from angry to embarrassed.
"I-I'm so sorry Ash, I may have over reacted just a little bit." She said while looking down at the floor.
"A little bit more than a lot." I mumbled.
"What was that?" She snapped.
I burst out laughing.
"Nothing Serena, nothing at all." I said.
She puffed her cheeks into a pout, then grabbed one of her pillows and slung it at me. It hit me right in the face.
"Hey what was that for?" I asked rubbing my nose.
"For being a jerk." She said, sticking her tongue out at me.
We were silent for a few seconds, then we both started laughing.
I tossed her pillow back to her.
"Well, I gotta say, tonight was definitely the best night of my life." I said.
Serena smiled brightly.
"Yeah, mine too." She said happily.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw the time on my phone.
"It's almost 11!? I need to hurry up and take a shower!" I said.
So after grabbing some clothes, I took a quick shower and climbed into bed.
"Good night Serena, I'll see you in the morning." I said with a yawn.
"Good night to you too Ash, sweet dreams." She replied.
With that, we turned off our lamps.
