A Surprise Visit
(Ash's pov)
After our little run in with Paul this morning, Serena and I made it to class just before the second bell rang. We sighed a heavy sigh of relief and took our seats. As we did, Sawyer leaned over whispered to us.
"Hey, I was wondering where you two were. What happened?" He asked.
"Oh nothing really, just had a run in with that Paul guy." I replied.
"That guy is such a jerk, I can't believe how he treated Dawn. I mean, she's his own sister!" Serena added, still upset about earlier.
"I'll say, I hope we can make it through the rest of the day without having another situation like before." I whispered to Serena.
A moment later Prof. Ivy told us all to stop talking and that class was starting. I was very lucky because today's assignment was just taking sone notes, so we basically got a free grade. Plus, it gives Serena and I more material to cover after school.
As luck would have it, the rest of the classes were the same. We took about three pages worth of notes and that was about it. I can already tell that I'm going to have one heck of a headache after this evening's study session.
When lunch came around, we went to Cilan's as usual. On our way we passed Dawn, but when we waved and called out to her she just glanced at us then kept walking. It didn't really upset us much, we knew why she did. We felt so bad for her, she's such a friendly person, but she's so scared of Paul that she won't even show it.
Speaking of Paul, we passed him a few times in between classes. Nothing really happened, just the occasional scoff and mumbling. I figured he's still pretty salty about this morning, to say the least.
Finally, after school had ended Serena and I were making our way back to the dorms.
"Maaan, I'm so tired. I'm ready to just hit the sack." I complained.
"Oh no you don't mister, you've got to study remember!" Serena said.
I chuckled.
"I'm just kidding, Serena." I said.
Serena punched my arm.
"Dummy." She said.
We walked a little further, when all of a sudden Serena's phone started to buzz.
"I wonder who that could be?" She wondered aloud.
Serena looked at the number. Her face became filled with exitement and she answered the phone.
"Hey big brother! What a surprise, how are you doing?" She said happily.
'Huh, I never knew she had an older brother. Or any siblings at all for that matter.' I thought to myself.
I had sort of fazed out Serena's conversation on the phone. I didn't want to disturb her because I could tell by the way she was talking that she hadn't seen him, much less heard from him in quite a while. It's not that surprising though, seeing as though he's a prince, I'm sure he's a busy guy.
My train of thought was suddenly interrupted when I heard Serena's tone change.
"Huh....HUUUUUH!?" She yelled.
"What is it Serena?" I asked, a little worried by her tone.
She held up her hand as if to say "I'll tell you in a minute."
Serena was quite for a moment, listening to her brother talking. I just stood there and listenedto the rest of the conversation.
"No, I'm not in right now. I should be back in about ten minutes." Serena said.
"Who's with me? My roommate silly. Why do you ask?"
The look on Serena's face turned to one of exitement, but then quickly to one of slight worry.
"Oh, uhh, yeah she's great." She said awkwardly and glancing in my direction.
I kinda laughed, I knew exactly what she was doing. After all I did the same thing to her once. After a few more minutes of chatting, she ended the call.
"Okay big brother, I'll see you soon." Serena said.
She hung up the phone and looked down at the ground.
"Hey what's-" I started to say.
"ASH, WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO!?" She yelled.
I jumped a little, I definitely didn't see that coming.
"What do you mean Serena!?" I asked, extremely confused.
"It's my brother, he said he's coming to visit this afternoon! If he finds out you're my roommate, who knows what he'll do!" Serena said.
Holy crap she's right, I get the feeling that I reaally don't wanna go down that road.
"It's alright Serena, I'll just find something to do until he-" I was cut off again, this time by an unfamiliar male voice.
"Well well, look who it is. It's been a while, hasn't it Serena?" Said the voice.
"Eeeep!" Serena said as she quickly turned around.
"H-hello Calem..." Serena said nervously.
(Serena's pov)
'Crapcrapcrapcrap!!' Was repeating over and over in my mind.
I was not expecting him to be THIS close to the dorms, much less be on the same route! I nervously glance between him and Ash.
'Oh man, knowing Calem, he's going to think that Ash is boyfriend or something!' I thought to myself.
The reason why this is an issue is because Calem, though a very kind and caring brother, is VERY protective of me. I need to think of something before he starts asking a bunch of awkward questions. I've had enough awkward moments today as it is!
Just say anything Serena!
"It's so good to see you again Calem, how have you been doing?" I asked.
"I've been quite well, though I'm pretty tired from all of the work mother has for me." Calem replied.
I started to say something, but Calem cut me off.
"However, as tired as I am, I wanted to drop by and see how my little sister is enjoying her first week of high school. I only wish I could have made it a few days earlier to hear your opening speech." Calem said smiling.
After hearing him say that, I smiled. He really was a great brother. I had almost forgotten about Ash's position in this situation, when I saw Calem shift his gaze over to him. Calem's expression turned from a smile to a very neutral expression.
"And who might you be?" Calem asked.
'Craaaaap! Ash, please don't say you're my roommate!!' I thought to myself.
I made a gesture toward Ash, and he seemed to get the idea.
"O-oh uhh, I'm Ash, a classmate of Serena's." Ash said.
Calem looked Ash over, studying him.
"Hmmm, just classmates?" Calem asked suspiciously.
I was beginning to feel a bit nervous, and from the look of it, so was Ash. He was holding himself together thankfully.
"U-uh, yep! Just classmates, nothing more!" Ash said, faking a smile.
"I see, so Serena, is what this boy said true." Calem asked.
"Y-yeah, it is..." I said, there was a hint of disappointment in my voice.
I can't really explain it, but it just didn't feel right saying that about Ash. I know that I wasn't serious, but it still hurt my heart to say that. Is my crush on him really that strong? Calem's face turned serious. He opens the door of his limousine.
"Serena, I need to have a word with you." He said.
"Oh...alright then. What's the matter?" I replied.
"I'm afraid this is a private matter of the Yvonne family. I'll need to speakwith you alone." Calem said.
