three

tyler was drowning.

he was trying so desperatly to reach for something to hold on to, but there was nothing. no one.

he tried to swim away, but his arms were numb and he couldn't breathe properly.

"take my hand!" said someone. it was his mom's voice.

he was safe.

but suddenly everything went dark and there he was again. holding his mom's wand with his tiny hands. he had found it on the bed, right next to where she was sleeping.

his dad hadn't come home from work and little tyler had been awake for a few hours, but his mom was still asleep. and it was strange, since she had always woken up before him.

tyler was hungry.

"mommy?" he held her cheek. it was very cold and stiff.

"MOM!" tyler yelled out and he was thrown awake before he could look properly at her cold, beautiful face.

his body was dripping with sweat.

the slytherin dorm room where tyler slept was now empty. he raised his eyes and looked at the clock. it was 8:30. everyone was probably at the hall having breakfast. tyler groaned, getting up and stretching. his mind wandered a bit, but he decided not to think about the nightmare he just had. he knew it wasn't good to keep remembering bad things that happened in the past, even if they kept invading his mind when he was uncounscious.

he reached into his bag and pulled out his uniforms, a towel and his timetable sheet. his first class of the day was herbology and it would be starting in 30 minutes.

he took a quick shower in the prefects bathroom (one of the perks of being the quidditch captain) and climbed down the stairs, checking to see if he had all of his books packed. the common room was empty except for two boys discussing something eagerly. he recognized them instantly.

one of them actually made fun of him in the previous day when he couldn't tell what taco bell was.

it wasn't tyler's fault, actually. his mom died when he was really young and his dad didn't want to have a son that could make the kitchen sink fill with water just by looking at it. he went to live with his grandparents until the age of 11 when he got his hogwarts letter. they were both wizards and extremely prejudiced. when tyler was at home, he could never send letters to his friends that weren't pure blood.

he loved being at hogwarts and talking to his muggle born friends about computers, fast cars and video games because he knew he could never have one of those in his house.

"hey." said the taller boy. the other one just waved.

"hi." replied the brunette, putting his books back in his bag.

"your name's tyler, right?" he asked.

"yup."

"listen, my friend and i were having a little argument and... you seem like a smart dude, so we wanted a third opinion on this. by the way, i'm brendon and this is pete."

"right." tyler furrowed his brows. "but can you please hurry up? i have class in 15 minutes and i haven't eaten yet."

"yeah, it'll be a minute. wait, what class do you have now?" asked the dark-haired boy.

"herbology. why?"

brendon and pete looked at each other and smirked.

"you know what? go eat your breakfast, it's fine." said pete.

tyler shot them a confused look and nodded, getting out of the stone wall and into the dungeons.

he was in the great hall in no time, where alice was waiting for him at the slytherin table.

"where were you?"

"overslept. i need coffee." tyler replied, already filling up his cup.

"is there quidditch practice today?"

"not yet. i still need to plan the training sessions."

"okay. i can't wait to go cheer you up at practice." she squeezed his arm and he threw her a sympathetic smile.

alice was a good friend, she really was. despite the fact that they were only "dating" for status, their relationship was ok. tyler knew he didn't care about her as much as she cared for him, but he couldn't do anything about it.

besides, she knew two things about him that no one else knew, and to him that meant something.

one: she knew about his past.

and two: she also knew he was 100% gay.

as long as she kept both of those things a secret, he had no reason to complain.

after he ate, tyler went to join the other students at the 4th greenhouse. he noticed a few hufflepuff students. that wasn't a surprise, since it was an advanced class and there would be fewer slytherin students due to the N.E.W.T.s.

professor longbottom came in after a few seconds, telling them to take their places in front of the table.

"now, would you please put the dragon-hide gloves on and put out your wands right away, because today we are going to be dealing with the venomous tentacula. can anyone tell me the properties of it?"

"umm."

someone raised a hand, catching tyler's attention.

"it's a... very expensive plant and also... it can expel venom from its shoots, and its spikes are deadly. i think its bite can prove to be fatal." he sounded very shy and tyler could tell he was uncomfortable. he saw that tyler was staring and blushed slightly.

tyler knew he was the same guy he met on the train, and the friend that "saved" brendon's life from a moving train. he tried really hard to remember his name.

"that's great, mr. dun. ten points to hufflepuff."

"josh dun!" he thought to himself and freaked out a little bit, because he could swear he had said that out loud.

"as mr. dun just said, they are indeed very dangerous, but their leaves are very needed as potion ingredients. we are going to be cutting them out today using the diffindo charm. no need to freak out if they try to strangle you."

a few people laughed, but he wasn't joking.

"ok. you're gonna be working in pairs. i have a sheet with your names and i'll be randomnly asking you to partner up with someone else." said the teacher.

"miss williams and mr. adams." he started. mr. longbottom gestured to a girl with bright orange hair and a tall looking boy to stand in a separate table. "uhh, mr. dun and... mr. joseph." he read.

tyler looked at his partner and smiled slightly.

on the other side of the table, josh's heart had skipped a beat.

hellooo

so, i tried to let you know a bit about tyler's past. i wanna show you guys why i think he belongs to slytherin. of course, his story here is very different from real life tyler's and way more intense, but there's no other house i think tyler joseph would fit into (except for ravenclaw since he's so goddamn clever). i'll tell you why later on.

also, i know this went from comedy to drama real quick but i'm really putting my heart out into this story lol. i hope you're still enjoying it tho
