Pass the parcel, please
Nyx burst in through the chamber. It was all very well for the stupid girl to go by herself. In fact, she didn't know of anything until Morpheus had said so this morning.
And that had left her hair messy and she poured with sweat.
"Amoris!" she screamed.
She saw them all facing a veiled woman who seemed annoyed.
Phantasos turned. "Grandma! You are too old for this sort of thing! We can handle it!"
Nyx hit him on the head. "Don't call me that! And what do you think you're doing going without proper assistance?"
After she'd finished lecturing them, she noticed Candy. "Good to meet you."
Candy opened her mouth but Nyx cut her off. "I know. Klaus' beloved. You are worthy."
Candy blushed as Amoris spoke after some time. "You know...we didn't want to trouble you."
Nyx waved it off.
"And now, if the happy reunion is over, may I remind you that you have deceived me?" said Meriba angrily.
"We didn't promise you to bring him back. In any case, we only asked you to show him," argued Kairos.
Meriba brow slackened as a smile replaced and her manner became easygoing. "Okay, you win. I simply wanted to see your response. Anyway. Next level. Choose any of the two paths."
She pointed to two tunnels, both dark. Nothing could be made out.
"What's the difference?"
"Seven sins or the remaining nine plagues?" said Meriba.
"Which one is which?" inquired Phantasos.
"Ah, if we reveal, what good would the game be?"
Kairos looked at them. "Split up."
"The first plague was water turning to blood," said Candy, deep in thought. She nodded. "Seems okay. Kairos' plan."
Phantasos shook his head. Nyx was with him. "We'll need each other's strengths."
They all waited for Amoris. Her hair stretched out and reached upon the first tunnel, hovering as though feeling it. It ran deep and came back and did the same. She bit her lips, looking at Meriba who was smiling.
She pulled her hair and took a few steps back and then sprinted as Meriba laughed after vanishing.
"Planning to match?"
Amoris had little fairy wings sprouting from her back. She sighed. She'd tried to change to Meriba's soul.
"It seems you do not know what to choose," said Meriba from overhead. They couldn't see her. "But, perhaps, if you'd like us to reveal, then..."
Phantasos screamed. "Yes!"
Candy's eyebrows furrowed. "No, wait..."
"The word has been said. It shall be so."
They all looked around at him.
Amoris cried. "That's not fair! We didn't get to have a say."
"But, words have power. Have thou not heard so? Use thy words carefully," said Meriba.
Their surroundings morphed as Nyx glared at him. "If anything happens, I'll forget you're my grandson."
Phantasos chuckled nervously. "C'mon. Has any plan of mine backfired?"
Kairos and Amoris snorted.
Light beams shone in every direction as Nyx and Candy shielded their eyes. It seemed to affect them more than the others.
"I think I'm gonna turn blind!" said Nyx.
"Precisely why I thought it'd be better for you to stay at Olympus," countered Amoris.
She walked ahead. The beams were moving continuously, rotating like a disco ball. The only fact was that it seemed to come from outside, hit a few surfaces, bounce back and then go out.
She touched one of the walls. Transparent walls. The outside world was a light fuchsia. She knocked on it.
"Glass."
Kairos came up and ran his hands along it. "True. Doubt we could break it."
A voice sounded from underneath them. "How about a game? Passing the parcel."
Nyx laughed in mockery. "That? Bring it on."
Amoris shook her head, knowing that she'd bring down wrath from whoever was controlling the games.
A pedestal rose from the ground upon which a red and bound gift sat atop. It was small enough to be wrapped in one's palms. Gold trimmed its edges.
"Stand in the circle."
They all looked down and saw a circle being drawn. A perfect black one upon which they stood.
"Spread out."
The circle grew bigger as fog and mist rose from the ground. They couldn't see each other.
They're trying to divide us.
"The girl with the red and white stripes," said the voice. "Begin the game. Pass to your left only."
Candy.
Amoris waited patiently as a hand outstretched and came for her, the gift atop. She took it and turned to her left. Then, she saw who was there and her fingers clenched the red fabric.
Zeus.
