Lonely Crown

"Who's Amoris?" asked Eric, but everyone ignored him. They had kept it a secret because he was curious. Not adventurous, just bizarrely curious.

"I knew we had to do this fast. And he? He claimed he was seeing things as humungous..." Eric's father sighed. "I thought we could get over with this."

"I think we can continue, unless she poses some interruptions," his wife said soothingly.

He glanced at the clock. Three-thirty a.m. The moon would be balanced against the sun any moment now. Soon, dawn would come.

"It's time then."

Eric walked up to the podium. The paper was snatched away by Veronica and finding her, she gave a small nod.

Eric said the oath surveying the crowd. Amoris looked at him in curiosity mingled with a slight worry.

"...that I will follow my duties..." and then everything went huge again. He was small, like a mouse. How were they going to see him. He craned his neck up to meet their eyes...And then, the migraine hit him and he was falling forwards. Fortunately, for him.

Amoris' hair stretched and coiled around him. It was a first. Most coronation ceremonies were filled with people who had their heads inflated but he was mixture of confidence with worry, plus...

Amoris walked ahead, and people parted their way for her. She knelt in front but Eric's father pushed her.

"Don't touch him..." he warned.

Amoris looked at him deadpanned and continued to stare at Eric. Veronica was at her side.

"You didn't even care for him," she spoke for the first time. "He has...a problem and you just wanted to get this over with because dawn is approaching."

"He's my son. You...I will call Hades."

The people gasped. Hades wasn't called often. But even he knew it was an empty threat.

"You know that it won't work. Hades has no control over me the whole February," she smiled, placing her hand on Eric's head.

Eric panted, brows creasing. "Way too big..."

"Alice in Wonderland Syndrome," said Amoris. "Not too much problem, but your son gets migraine sometimes."

"Is there...a cure?" asked Veronica.

"Not everything has a cure."

"Why did you come here, Amoris?" asked Eric's mother. "We didn't do anything..."

"No. The book of laws and everything did so," she said. "Eric?"

Eric's eyes opened and he stared into big violet eyes. He could see every fleck, every sparkle. "Are you dangerous?"

Amoris stood up, hurt a bit. "Love always is."

The moonlight shone through the window. Dawn was starting to creep in. Now was the perfect time. Eric's father sensed a growing hunger among the people. Amongst the fairies, nymphs, vampires, other werewolves...

In this land, the coronation ceremony was not just crowning the would-be-king. It was to stand under the moonlight, where a relic of ancient heritage would be passed down and the Moon Goddess would crown them herself.

Amoris stood by the window and saw Nyx. So, Nyx would be part of the plan too... The moonlight dimmed. Someone came rushing forward in great speed, probably hoping to be made king. A vampire. Nyx swooped in and held out her arm.

"Not so soon. We won't allow reign to take over like this again."

"What?" everyone bellowed.

"For years, you people have maintained the pure race, pure breed status. That's why this power...ceremony is there," she spat.

"It's true," said Amoris changing into the nine tailed fox.

Eric was stunned. Everyone was angry. Sera attempted to throw a lamp at them. Eric glanced at her. She was angry, to the point where she'd murder. Everything had been planned. She would dance with Eric and take over...

Amoris glanced around as the moonlight dimmed further because of Nyx. Nyx could be described as...dark. Well, there was no other way to put it.

The moon faded.

"Uncrowned..." someone whispered lightly. "There is no heir this time."

Eric swallowed, not knowing what to feel. For one, he didn't know about them. And two, all his preparation had been wasted.

Sera walked over, fuming. "Amoris, this isn't fair."

"All's fair in love and war," said Nyx.

Amoris glanced at Eric who was looking back at her. She seemed to be smiling, as though reassuring him. For some odd reason, he felt that she'd come back.

They jumped out of the window.

"Why didn't you guys tell me?"

*********

Sera stood in front of the full length mirror. "Mother, everything has been ruined."

"Not so, child. If we need to gain control, you need to...well, you know. You are a nymph."

"I thought Eric would be captivated. But it seems Amoris might have already done that," she kicked her shoes off.

"Have faith, Serafina. Nymphs don't give in easily. You will gain immortality. Amoris might actually benefit us. Considering that she has been playing matchmaker for centuries."

Sera's eyes glinted mischievously.

"The only problem is Amoris shouldn't fall for him herself. And then, all will fit."

It was true. For centuries, Amoris played matchmaker. Matching werewolves with the vampires, elves with fairies, trying every new combination. She awoke every twenty years, precisely when it was a blue moon in that year. And she wreaked havoc. Power had been passed to different factions and the werewolves held it long enough. A century was too long. It was time the nymphs took over.

She had nine tails, eight shape shifting abilities to turn into any member of the faction. And then, she'd possess their soul and match them with a member of a different faction.

Children had been born through them and evidently thrown out of society. You couldn't be from both factions. Which was fortunate for the factions as Amoris couldn't stay long to protect them.

But, as they all said. Déjà vu was felt everywhere that this time was different.

More to come, young warriors! I havent much to say, except that I've got two model exams coming up...well, I am trying to write whenever I get time.

I really hope Amoris has a chance. Be brave!

Yours
