long live (sarawattine)

"Remind me again why I'm here with you?" Tine crossed his arms over his chest, irritation etched across his face.

"Because some idiotic know-it-all claimed they knew how to bypass the three-headed dog and retrieve the sword," Sarawat retorted, his frustration matching Tine's. "If I had known you were going to be such a pain and get us into trouble, I wouldn't have trusted you."

"Says the one who practically dragged me here because he was too scared of 'Floof'," Tine scoffed, using his fingers to form air quotes.

"That three-headed dog is called 'Floof'?" Sarawat's eyebrows shot up in disbelief.

"This was the fifth time I confirmed it with you. Yes, sir. His name is Floof."

"How do you know? Are you secretly related to that evil dragon? Are you tricking me?"

"Sarawat Guntithanon, we are literally stuck under this trapdoor, and all you want to know is if I'm tricking you or not?" Tine deadpanned.

"It doesn't answer my question," Sarawat replied flatly.

Tine let out an exasperated sigh. "Captain told us about its name, remember? If I were tricking you, don't you think I wouldn't be here, trapped with you?"

"I don't trust you. Maybe it's all part of your plan to get me killed so you can have that thing, the sword," Sarawat said, his eyes examining Tine suspiciously.

"You're unbelievable, Guntithanon."

"So are you, Teepakorn."

"You know, I shouldn't have asked the ship's crew to save you from drowning. You're such an arse!"

"Well, no one asked you to!"

"Of course. I can see that clearly," Tine scoffed.

As the two continued their bickering, Tine slumped down on the dark, mossy floor, exhausted from their constant quarreling. "Now shut up. I'm tired of fighting with you."

"You're not—" Sarawat's voice was abruptly cut off by a monstrous growling sound echoing from further ahead.

"Oh shit! It'll be better if you keep your mouth shut now, or else you might get eaten by that dog," Tine warned. He immediately sprung up, alarmed.

Sarawat nodded, finally recognizing the gravity of their situation. It was the massive, three-headed dog, Floof. It was definitely making its way toward them.

With no time to lose, Sarawat reached out and grabbed Tine's hand. "Come on! We need to get out of here."

"No, wait! We cannot move now or else it'll hear our footsteps," Tine explained in hushed whispers.

"No shit! If we don't get out of here, it'll definitely eat us before we can say 'feast'," Sarawat spoke, straining his eyes on the illuminated pathway.

"You're a complete idiot, Sarawat! It's common sense; Floof is far bigger and taller than us. It'll catch us even if we run at our maximum speed," Tine hissed.

"Too late," the latter spoke, voice grave with fear. The Earth shook with loud 'thumps' indicating the arrival of their doom.

Together, they stumbled to their feet and raced toward the trapdoor exit. Floof was closing in fast, its monstrous growls growing louder with every passing second.

They managed to reach the trapdoor just in time, narrowly avoiding Floof's snapping jaws. With a swift motion, Sarawat pushed the door open, and they tumbled through, landing in a dark, unknown place.

Their hearts still racing, they caught their breath in the eerie silence of the chamber. The trapdoor slammed shut above them, leaving them in complete darkness. Both panted, adrenaline high in their bodies, and sweat trickling down their foreheads.

Finding another arching door, they immediately ran toward it only to find it stiff as a rock. Tine and Sarawat tried spells of all sorts and used their strength to break it open, but it was of no use.

Sarawat couldn't help himself and started shouting at Tine, "This is all your fault, Teepakorn. You and your stupid idea to stay rooted in that spot. We could've easily exited that fucking place if you listened to me earlier."

Tine's patience was wearing thin, "Oh, please. You're the one who couldn't keep quiet!"

"I was? You've got a big mouth on ya!" Sarawat scoffed.

"At least I was the sensible one here; all you could do is blame me for every inconvenience and act on impulse, idiot!"

Their argument continued, escalating into heated banter until Sarawat said something cruel in the heat of the moment. "I know, you're way too loose. Hooking up with every man on the ship during voyages just proves that," Sarawat scoffed.

Tine's face twisted with shock and hurt. He paused, looking straight at the latter's eyes, tears filling up in his eyes, before punching Sarawat squarely on his jaw.

Sarawat was shocked, not by the punch itself, but by the sight of tears in Tine's eyes. He had never seen Tine cry. He knew Tine never cried— he had even stayed blank-faced when a hammer fell on his feet a few months ago. Thus, when Sarawat was punched, he didn't even try to retaliate, realizing he deserved it. He felt guilty to even utter such words that could bring forth a profound after-effect on Tine.

The tension hung thick in the air as they avoided eye contact. Tine turned back and walked away from Sarawat. He couldn't even see Tine given how dark the place was. They didn't exchange a word for what felt like an eternity, the dark silence pressing in on them.

It continued like this for hours, or probably days because Sarawat had no idea of what time it was now. Too lost in all the ways.

Neither of them willed to break the ice, though. They stayed quiet without speaking to one another— Sarawat dying of guilt and Tine dying of embarrassment and heartbreak.

It was heartbreaking to find out what Sarawat actually thought of Tine. Tine was the first one to find Sarawat unconscious on a plywood in the middle of the ocean, and he, being a benevolent sailor he was, asked the crew on the ship to rescue the man. He fell in love with him in the process. Sarawat, however, wasn't too keen on sharing the same sentiments. He disliked Tine for being everyone's favorite on the ship.

Tine was a kind, jolly, and compassionate person, and Sarawat disliked how everyone seemed to be too close to him all the time. He had tried to befriend the crew, but most of them refused to entertain him for more than a few minutes. He had managed to befriend two crews, though: Man and Boss, and that kept him from being too lonely.

In that dark place, sitting alone, Sarawat felt the familiar loneliness creeping in. He realized how wrong he was to ever call Tine 'loose'. Tine considered the ship and the people that came along with it, his family. His father being a jovial yet intimidating Captain claims to have taught Tine to be a benevolent sailor.

Feeling guilt piled up a lot and throat clogging in, Sarawat stood and walked toward the other boy.

"Tine?" Sarawat spoke out. He could make out the figure hunched in a corner, thanks to those mosses that were producing light via bioluminescence, thus concluding this might be the sailor. Tine's figure stiffened up, yet no answer came from him.

Sarawat inhaled a sharp breath before speaking, "I am sorry for saying that to you."

Tine still didn't reply, but Sarawat saw Tine's figure move a bit closer to where he was standing— but it was neither too close nor too far.

Sarawat attempted to apologize multiple times, but Tine dismissed him each time, not answering or replying to him with anything.

Sarawat's frustration grew as he attempted to make amends. "Tine, please, I'm genuinely sorry."

Tine spoke out for the first time since their fallout. His voice, however, remained cold. "You're insincere."

This cycle of attempted apologies and dismissals repeated several more times until Sarawat finally snapped. "You're impossible, Sailor Teepakorn!"

"Yeah? Then you should stop talking to me altogether", Tine scoffed.

"I am trying, alright? And you aren't helping!"

"Trying for what? To talk to me? But I am way too loose, aren't I? You should keep your distance because what if I try to abuse you?" Tine's voice dripped with sarcasm and the words cut deeper into Sarawat's conscience.

"Look, I am genuinely guilty for what I said to you. That was wrong of me to accuse you of something so nasty. An apology is all that I can do, but if I need to make any other specific amend to prove my sincerity, please tell me so. I am ready to do it", Sarawat spoke softly and even in that ever-silent room, one might not hear his words. Tine, however, heard him clear and well.

There was silence between the two for a few moments until Tine shuffled up on his feet and walked up to Sarawat and sat down near him. Sarawat followed suit.

"I forgive you, but you will need to make amends once we get out of this fucking place", Tine spoke like those moneylenders in the markets.

"What type of amends?" Sarawat asked, looking skeptically at the other boy.

"Gradual disclosure, boy", Tine grinned, an evil plan already bubbling in his head.

"What are aiming at? If you plan to make me do anything stupid like daring me to kiss Sailor Mai, I won't do that!" Sarawat kept it beforehand.

"Why would I make you kiss P'Mai?" The smile dropped from Tine's face.

"Because you keep on telling me how P'Mai and I would look good as a couple?" Sarawat rolled his eyes at Tine's naivety.

"Of course, I didn't mean it, you idiot. I am in love with you ever since I saw you unconscious in the ocean", Tine spoke without thinking.

Sarawat whipped his head so fast that he swore his neck cracked. Tine froze as he recalled what he had just said. He immediately clapped both of his hands on his mouth.

The revelation hung in the air like an unspoken truth, making everything between them more awkward. Tine distanced himself a bit from Sarawat, creating a palpable gap between them.

"Let's forget I ever said that", Tine mumbled.

Sarawat hummed, blushing from head to toe. He decided to break the tension, attempting to engage Tine in playful banter.

"But", Sarawat began in a playful warning tone, "don't you make me do anything stupid, Tine. Or I'll feed you to the squids".

"Says someone who is afraid of squids," Tine rolls his eyes, a smile making its way on his lips. Slowly, they started talking again. Their conversations were initially strained and awkward, but then it flowed naturally.

After a few moments of Tine telling Sarawat about his earliest adventures in the Jhumta archipelagos and then bantering, Sarawat finally decided to reveal the secret of his own.

"Tine, I'm not a crew of a shipwrecked ship. I'm the Prince of Polisco. I'm here to win that sword so I can take it back to my kingdom and use it to defeat the dragon terrorizing us."

"What?!" Tine looked at him, eyes widened in shock, "You're joking, right?"

Tine anticipated Sarawat to laugh and say 'yes' but the latter's face remained serious.

"Oh." Tine nodded, "You really are a Prince? No wonder you sucked big time cleaning the decks".

Sarawat groaned, "I never cleaned anything so big in my entire life. I am deeply embarrassed that I couldn't even disguise myself better."

"What do you need a disguise for? You could've claimed to be a Prince, and we could have provided you with our star services," Tine probed.

"Are you using sarcasm at me right now?" Sarawat asked, furrowing his eyebrows.

"No, Your Royal Highness! I would never. I knew that beforehand. I saw your pendant once and found King of Polisco's family picture in it. I didn't believe what it could actually mean, but now I am certain by intuitions weren't wrong", Tine explained, "I am sorry for snooping around your belongings but as the son of the Captain of the ship, I needed to make sure you weren't a pirate making plans on looting our ship".

Sarawat looked at the latter with wide eyes. That was unexpected. "Damn, Tine. You're clever and such a smooth actor; I didn't even know you know something so big about me".

Tine grinned, "I know I am the best!"

Sarawat returned the grin, and they sat there looking at each other for a while, finding both of their eyes sparkling softly.  "My father wanted me to go retrieve that sword and slay the dragon myself. But he gave me ultimatum that I must retrieve the sword without using the title of being a Prince of a kingdom."

"I see", Tine said, finally understanding the Prince. The Sarawat he knew and the Sarawat who he is talking with now are so different. So, this who you really are, Prince Sarawat Guntithanon, Tine mused, I am glad I met you.

"Let's try to open the door now, Khun noo," Tine broke the silence before clearing his throat.

"Don't call me that, please," Sarawat whined and stood up and extended his hand toward Tine. Finding a perplexed Tine looking at the Prince, he added, "Let's go get out of here".

Tine nodded and accepted the hand.

They stood before the seemingly impenetrable door, puzzled expressions on their faces.

Tine scratched his head and muttered, "We've tried everything, Wat. Strength, magic, you name it. Nothing's working."

Sarawat nodded, frustration evident in his voice. "I know, Tine. It's like this door doesn't want to budge. But we can't just stay here forever."

They both exchanged a glance, a silent agreement that they needed to find a way out. Sarawat then approached the door and knocked on it, causing an echo to reverberate through the chamber.

Tine raised an eyebrow. "Knocking, seriously? Do you think the door's going to answer?"

Sarawat smirked. "Well, it's worth a shot. You never know."

As they pondered their next move, the door emitted a low rumble, and ancient runes etched into its surface began to glow softly.

Tine gasped. "Did you see that?"

Sarawat nodded, his eyes fixed on the runes. "Hmm... I think we triggered something. Maybe it's a puzzle or a riddle. Let's see if there are any clues."

They examined the door closely, looking for any hints or inscriptions. After a few moments, Tine pointed to a phrase engraved beneath the glowing runes. "Look here, Sarawat. It says, 'I am what you seek, yet often denied. To find the way out, you must first provide.'"

Sarawat furrowed his brow. "What does that even mean? 'Provide' what?"

Tine tapped his chin in thought. "Well, it says 'I am what you seek,' so maybe it's talking about the sword we're trying to retrieve. And 'often denied' could mean that the sword is usually kept hidden or protected."

Sarawat nodded, starting to piece it together. "So, to find the way out, we have to 'provide' the sword. But how do we do that?"

Tine's eyes lit up with realization. "Wait, the door gave us a question, right? Maybe we have to provide the answer with the sword's name."

Sarawat grinned, "You mean Floof?"

Tine chuckled, "No, silly. The sword's name! We have to figure that out."

They both racked their brains, trying to recall any clues or hints they might have missed. After a few moments, Tine slapped his forehead.

"How can I even forget something from the legends? Captain told us about that legend, remember? About the sword?" Tine asked.

"It's called 'Excalibark'," both of them said in unison.

Sarawat's eyes widened. "Excalibark! That's it!"

With newfound determination, they turned back to the door. Sarawat cleared his throat and confidently declared, "Excalibark."

The ancient runes on the door began to glow brighter, and with a deep rumble, the massive stone slab began to slowly rise, revealing a passageway leading to freedom.

Tine and Sarawat The darkness gave way to light, and they emerged into the treasure room, leaving their confinement behind.

Together, they opened the door to a treasure room exchanging triumphant smiles as they made their way through the opening. There, in the middle of the room, stood the beautiful jade sword, surrounded by thousands of golden ornaments and coins. The Excalibark!

Overwhelmed with joy and relief at finally reaching their goal, Tine couldn't contain his excitement.

"Finally!" He dashed toward the sword without realizing the traps hidden on the floor.

"No wait!" Sarawat tried to stop him, but it was too late. Tine triggered the traps, and the room shook as the gold subsided into the floor, turning into pools of dark water. A great wave surged up rushing toward them, threatening to swallow them whole.

Sarawat acted swiftly, grabbing Tine's hand as they ran toward the sword near the exit, the water gaining on them rapidly. But just as they were about to be engulfed, they touched the sword together, their fingers grazing the cool jade.

The chaos subsided as quickly as it had begun, and everything grew calm once more. It was as if the last few moments never even happened.

Finding themselves still standing, Sarawat surged forward, pulling Tine by his waist into a desperate and passionate kiss.

Their lips met fervently, a longing for each other they had both been denying for far too long. Sarawat's other hand found its way to Tine's neck, pulling him closer, as they lost themselves in the intoxicating taste of each other's lips.

When they finally broke the kiss, they were both breathless and dazed, their foreheads resting against each other's.

Then, as they stood there, forehead to forehead, the realization of their emotions and the intensity of the moment washed over them. Sarawat couldn't hold back any longer, and he whispered in a voice filled with passion and vulnerability, "I love you."

Tine's heart swelled with emotion, and he wrapped his arms tightly around Sarawat, pulling him into a warm and reassuring hug. "I love you too."

In that instant, any remaining barriers between them crumbled away. They were no longer just two adventurers in search of a treasure - Excalibark; they were two souls who had found each other in the darkest of times.

With newfound strength and determination, they decided to face the challenges ahead as a team. They held hands, fingers intertwined, and began their journey back to the surface, armed with the jade sword and a love that was stronger than any obstacle they might encounter.

As they emerged from the underground labyrinth, they discovered that Sarawat's claim to be the Prince of Polisco was true.

As they stood under the open sky, the two couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of their adventure. They had faced danger, argued, and even revealed their deepest secrets, but in the end, they had found their way out together.

Tine patted Sarawat on the back. "Well, Prince Sarawat, it seems we make a pretty good team."

Sarawat grinned. "Indeed, Tine. And who knows what other adventures await us out there?"

Hand in hand, they walked away from the mysterious chamber, ready to face whatever challenges and surprises the world had in store for them.

-----

Tine and the crew of the ship were welcomed into the kingdom warmly, with open arms. The King of Polisco adorned them with praises and celebratory feasts.

Tine, being the benevolent sailor he was, promised to help the Prince defeat the looming dangerous dragon.

Together, they faced and defeated the dragon that had plagued the land for generations, using the power of the jade sword and their combined magical powers.

They had a grand wedding after Sarawat confessed his love for Tine in front of the King. The grand celebration was attended by all who had witnessed their incredible journey, as well as the aristocrats and royals of countries and states far and wide. Captain Teepakorn, Tine's father, and the King came into a pact of entrusting the safety of the Kingdom, choosing him as the captain of the Royal Navy.

And so, in the end, Sarawat and Tine lived happily ever after, ruling the kingdom together, side by side. The Kingdom bloomed with bountiful prosperity, spreading peace and happiness all around, proving how they had their love stronger than any magic, and hearts forever entwined.
