❄︎
Typing furiously on her laptop, Kaeya was trying her best to ignore the amazing aroma coming out of the modular kitchen in the penthouse. Yuvaan was cooking for her and as per his orders, she wasn't to step in till further notice.
10 days.
It was 10 days after the business party that Yuvaan and Kaeya tried to take in the new environment, with her trying her best to accept the changes and whatever is written in her fate.
Not everyone's life is perfect. And the same was the Kaeya who had accepted this fact by now.
She had to take out the best of what's left in it.
And fortunately or unfortunately Yuvaan was in it, she had to decide whether to accept him or ruin their future which seemed the last option.
The sudden noise of doorbell ringing snapped her out of the thoughts and she released a frustrated breath, not really in the mood of meeting someone.
Who could be at the door since no one really visited Yuvaan much?
"KayKay, please see who is at the door. I'll come in a jiffy." Yuvaan's distant voice was heard and she instantly ran towards the door.
Opening the door of his penthouse, it was only for Kaeya's orbs to land upon Yuvraaj who was standing there stiffly, hands crossed over his chest.
He looked a lot mature than 9 years ago, though with a same serious sort of look. His structure was almost the same but the magic of age definitely worked on him as well.
"Yuvraaj bhai?" Kaeya gasped seeing him.
Yuvraaj's head snapped towards her as he earlier believed that it would be Yuvaan who would welcome him, but shockingly it was Kaeya.
"Doll?" His whisper came.
Doll.
Only Kaeya knows how much she has missed hearing this from his mouth.
"It's seriously you.... How are you?" He asked, recovering himself from the shock.
For a moment Kaeya didn't know how to behave with him or what to speak. She felt slightly frozen as if her mind couldn't process any thoughts.
"Yuvraaj bhai?" Yuvaan's voice reached Kaeya's ears making her realize her surroundings.
And all of sudden she noticed the change in both of the brother's behaviour.
Yuvraaj was giving Yuvaan a disappointed expression that was mixed with full of anger while Yuvaan was looking at him shockingly, both of them not able to make any movement.
"Bhai, you came?" Yuvaan choked out.
Kaeya was looking at the scene silently, not being able to grasp the behaviour between them. From the beginning of meeting Yuvaan once again after 9 years, she was skeptical about Yuvraaj's absence. And now it seemed that there was definitely a reason behind it.
"Of course I did. My hands are craving to knock some sense into you." Yuvraaj gritted out making Kaeya look at him with shock written all over her face.
These two brother were known for their bond. They were more of a bestfriends than a pair of elder brother and a younger one. But that changed with the entry of Miesha in Yuvaan's life.
She didn't only created distance between Yuvaan and Kaeya. It was also Yuvraaj and Yuvaan whose bond had taken a toll. Because for Yuvraaj, Kaeya was as important as a sister he never had.
"Bhai please talk. Just let me explain myself and then you can decide whether you want to keep relations with me or not. Just don't act like you did 9 years ago." Yuvaan almost pleaded to him, his expression looking helpless.
A wavered breath came out of Kaeya's mouth as she realized their relation wasn't the same as before.
Those days and those decisions of Yuvaan might've destroyed a lot of things.
"That I will decide. Now till I talk with my sister, get your ass out of here. I don't want to see your face." Yuvraaj hissed, pointing a finger towards Yuvaan who seemed blank.
And that's when Yuvaan clenched his jaw, his hand turning into a fist as he without any thoughts took his key from the coffee table and stormed off his own penthouse, banging the door shut.
Kaeya's mouth dropped open looking at the now closed door while Yuvraaj stood there unaffected.
"Bhai, let me just call him back. You know his anger and let's just talk like adults." Kaeya tried making him understand, holding his forearm.
"He'll come by himself after sometime. You don't worry about him and instead worry about answering my questions, young lady." Yuvraaj pointed out to Kaeya who gulped in response.
And without wasting any other second, Yuvraaj walked towards the lounge, sitting on one of the couch, now gesturing for Kaeya to join him who had no other option but to abide.
//////////
"Umm- before we start, just please tell me the reason why you didn't come to our wedding. Or why you don't have any connection with Yuvaan?" Kaeya hesitantly questioned.
The two of them were sitting opposite to each other, not able to understand on what to talk or how to talk. Everything felt weird.
"How could I? The last time when I had talked to Yuvaan was when he cried like a child in my arms? Reason is something you know too. His decisions and doings. I couldn't forgive him Kaeya. No matter he's my sibling, he did real bad. And I had decided then only that I won't continue any relations with him. You have no idea how angry I was when I got to know that this idiot is going to marry you. Why did you agree Kaeya? I didn't have any part in both of yours past and still I couldn't attend the wedding. My heart wasn't accepting this but you simply accepted?" He let out, shaking his head lightly at the end.
"I don't know myself why I married him. Maybe it was our fate." Kaeya whispered simply shrugging and Yuvraaj passed her a disappointed look in return.
"Kaeya, I am not worried about anything. The only thing that scares me is how you will cope up with it. I care about you and I don't want you to go through anything bad again." Yuvraaj reasoned, his gaze turning soft.
His brother instincts for Kaeya were overpowering every relation and emotions he had and was feeling. Only he knows what level of rage he felt when Yuvaan told him what all happened.
The slap he'd given to him didn't satisfy at all.
"Bhai, if he has come in my again, then there must be a big reason behind it right? Everything happens for a reason. I never wanted a prince charming or anything for me. I just wanted my success. I have gotten that and now I just want to live it. Now if Yuvaan will be a part of it too, I don't mind. Love or anything is the last thing for me right now and one thing I can proudly say is he is the man I won't be uncomfortable to live with." Kaeya sighed, massaging her temples.
"He isn't perfect and neither am I. But people learn from mistakes and I am sure that nothing like that would happen again. And even if it will, I will kill him myself this time. I really don't need any drama in my life now. I just want it to continue how it has been doing since last 10 days. Maybe I am selfish or I am foolish, but my priority is my happiness and satisfaction which I think I am getting. So, there's nothing to worry about." She continued, sighing a little.
All the while Kaeya spoke this, her voice had this finality in it. Her tone oozed out of seriousness and he too knew that when Kaeya decides something, no one can stop her.
And most importantly, it was her life. She was the one who had to make decisions, not anyone else. If she wants this, then the others should only accept it.
"Fine by me Kaeya. For me, your happiness matters. If you have decided, then it'll be the final thing to do. I just want you to know one thing that I will be available for you every point of time. I don't care what the time is or what the situation is, you are going to call me as soon as this idiot will do anything that we don't want to happen. I am sorry, but I can't trust him right now. He seems too selfish but if you can tame him, that's your life and how you want to live it." Yuvraaj said walking towards her and directly slumped beside her who nodded appreciatively in return.
A small smile formed on Kaeya's lips and she realized whatever she'd said and how supportive he was being. She surely needed someone to guide her and show that she too has a backbone. Going through everything alone felt too hard for Kaeya. Neither having the support of her parents nor having a support of her life partner in a way or so, sometimes she just felt like crying.
Yuvraaj had left telling her that he would talk to Yuvaan some days later after processing his own thoughts and the only thing Kaeya was doing was running to various options and thoughts in her mind.
She somewhere had believed that Yuvaan was the one for her since it was for a reason he's back in her life. She also knows that no matter how much she'll try, she won't be able to give the love a life partner wants. Maybe that's the karma Yuvaan would get, but whatever it was, it was their destiny which they had to accept.
For whatever reasons it was, Kaeya had accepted the fact that her life would never be perfect. She wouldn't get a man who would treat her as his queen or maybe this might happen in furture, though she was somewhere a bit hesitant to give herself to Yuvaan and to their relationship.
But life is based on second chances.
Yuvaan isn't a monster. He did mistakes full of immaturity. And why shouldn't he get a second chance from her when everyone else gets even for some big betrayals?
But where is he?
It has been more than two hours since he's out.
The shrilly sound of her phone ringing made her jolt, her heart beating loudly at the intrusion in between such a soothing environment.
With a sigh, she picked up the call placing the sleek electronic on her ear.
"Hello? Is this Kaeya Shah?" A new voice reached her ears.
"Uhh- yes. May I know who I am talking to?" She questioned back, her tone oozing of confusion.
"Mam this is City Hospital and your husband had a severe accident on the highway. A truck hit him from behind when he was driving. The car is fully damaged but your husband is still alive and currently in the operation theater because of the serious condition. Please come here as soon as possible." The person on the other side voiced out
Severe acident.
Operation.
Serious condition.
Those words felt like deep stabs to her heart.
She felt hard to breathe. Her mind couldn't process anything because all that appeared in front of her eyes was Yuvaan's face.
No matter he wasn't exactly the best of person, bestfriend and husband, Kaeya never wanted him to die. Not even in her nightmares.
And in a flash she was out of the penthouse, running like a mad person, tears flowing out of her eyes at the thought of again losing someone who has a important place in her life.
//////////
"How is he doctor? I hope the operation is going fine. And don't worry about the expenses or anything. Just please-"
Kaeya was rambling to Yuvaan's doctor who stopped her pitifully.
"Mrs. Shah, I am not going to lie but Mr. Shah's condition is serious. The operation was successful but we have kept him under observation. We cannot conclude at this point that what could happen. He might even take his last breath today or he might walk perfectly out of here today itself." The doctor responded, nodded his head merely.
A wavered breath came out of Kaeya's mouth at his words as she took in the words. This is the last thing she wanted. No matter she's angry at him or whatsoever, his disappearance from this world would shatter her. Completely.
"The accident was severe. His car directly hit with a 8 roller crossing the road. It was both the party's fault but Mr. Shah's condition is worse than the driver's. The locals had brought him here and we immediately started the operation. Him having 4 fractures isn't helping either. And I am sorry to say, but his current state appears as if he doesn't want to live. More than a doctor's efforts, it is the patient's will that makes them survive such cases but Mr. Shah isn't responding to the treatment much." He continued in his professional tone.
Kaeya's hand clutched her bag tightly, her knuckles turning white due to the pressure. Her throat felt as if it was clogged, her mind not processing the thought of something happening to Yuvaan.
"Can I- I meet h-him?" She asked, gulping down the saliva.
"I am sorry Mrs. Shah, but currently he's resting under serious observation. We'll tell you when it's the right time." The doctor apologetically responded.
With them shaking hands, the doctor left his own cabin leaving Kaeya in the pool of thoughts who was on the verge of crying this whole time.
And she couldn't control anymore.
A sob escaped her lips that felt painful to both her heart and insides. She felt like destroying everything and just go and be near Yuvaan to calm her heart that felt like exploding.
The saying that you realize someone's worth when they leave felt a hundred percent true to Kaeya.
Yuvaan felt the same years ago, giving him the harsh realization and now it was Kaeya who was ready to forgive him if it would get the old Yuvaan back.
//////////
With hesitant steps and shivering hands, Kaeya walked towards the private room Yuvaan was resting in.
It was 2 days later that a call reached Kaeya about Yuvaan finally waking up.
Two days full of cries, blames, aloneness, agony and pain.
For the first time after 9 years she felt like hugging the daylights out of him, be in his arms to feel his presence.
She was ready to forget everything if it would give Yuvaan a sense of satisfaction or a reason to live.
She was mentally praying 24*7, trying her best to make Yuvaan believe that she needs him in a way or the other.
The door creaked open as per her movements. Her eyes landed on a figure that was laying down, his eyes closed, multiple of wires connected to his body, various bandages covering his wounds that almost felt like uncountable to her.
Walking beside his bed, she lightly grazed his hand, the IV leaving no space.
Her heart clenched seeing his state.
The wounds still looked fresh under the bandages, some scratches visible while a big plaster on his left leg. She couldn't even imagine at this point what amount of pain he must've felt in all this.
"Y-Yuvaan-" Kaeya whispered. It came out barely audible.
All of a sudden his eyes shot open, him groaning due to the pain of sudden movement. Kaeya eyes glistened with fresh tears seeing him in this state and Yuvaan was looking at her shockingly.
The only reason being he didn't believe she would come to meet him. He was angry at himself, not even blaming her for anything. He was ready to accept any decision of hers at this point.
"You came?" He let out in a hoarse voice.
"Of course I did. Why are you such a big idiot? Couldn't you have driven safely?" She said in an accusing tone.
Yuvaan just shook his head merely.
"This is my karma. The doctor's have said they aren't sure about anything." Yuvaan said with a distant smile.
This man is saying such a big thing with a smile? Kaeya felt like punching him at the moment.
"Y-Yuvaan, I'll forget about everything but please don't lose hope. Y-You have to survive. For m-me, for you." Kaeya reasoned, sitting on the stool beside his bed.
Taking his hand in hers, she began stroking it ever so softly.
Heck, Yuvaan wanted to say don't stop. After such a long time they were this close with both of theirs consent, but he just controlled himself.
"It's my punishment Kaeya. It's better if I don't survive. It'll give you happiness and that's all I want. I can give up my life if it'll give you happiness." He croaked out with difficulty.
Tears were flowing out of Kaeya's eyes without any resistance by now. She no longer had to hide her emotions from him. The last thing she wants is her anger costing his life.
She badly needed to make him believe that there was a reason for him to live.
And that reason was her.
His wife, Kaeya.
What is she going to do without him anyways? Who will she even taunt?
"But-"
"Don't say anything Kaeya. You'll be happy. I don't deserve you and you deserve someone better. You'll be free. I won't keep you bound here. I don't deserve you Kaeya. I am paying for my own sins, for those which I did. I did a huge mistake. Not just what I did to you in the past, but also not understanding you. I thought I was your best friend but then bestfriends have to understand each other too. But I didn't. I left you alone with those boys that day. I made a lot of mistakes and I have to pay for them. I am sorry. I didn't keep my promise. But I am sure you'll get someone better than me. You deserve the best and I am nowhere near that Kaeya-"
Yuvaan was rambling continuously, breathing heavily and his voice coming out nothing but hoarse and full of pain when Kaeya cut him off.
"KayKay. Call me Kaykay. And who gave you the rights to take decisions regarding our relationship? Who are you to say I deserve better? You better stop making assumptions Yuvaan Shah. This is the last time I am letting you say this bullshit. And about promises, you are still breaking them. Didn't you say that you'll do your best to make me fall for you? Where did that go? Did you forget those? Just stop with this nonsence and wait for the doctors to say something." Kaeya gritted out, pointing her finger towards him at every sentence.
Her face was full of dried tears, some fresh ones still flowing from her pretty brown eyes while Yuvaan's were glistening due to the pain and thought of getting away from her.
He never even had a chance to express his love for her! How is that fair?
It pained his heart to even think about not seeing Kaeya after this. As if this was their last meeting. But he could go through anything if it makes her satisfied. His disappearance would be a part of her happiness? Then he's ready doing that too.
"But I don't dese-"
Kaeya took a deep breath, getting frustrated on him being adamant on the same thing since forever.
Why did he have to act like this now only?
Kaeya felt like smacking him for uttering nonsense when she wanted him with her, beside her the most. She felt his importance and the mere thought of him not being in her life shook her to the core.
"Yuvaan, you did some mistakes. I agree. But you are guilty and are still apologizing for them, right? Why don't you understand Yuvaan, I can't stay without you. You love me, don't you? Was this your love? Leaving me alone in the middle?" Kaeya reasoned helplessly.
"I need you Yuvaan. I need you. I want to enjoy life with you. I want to see how you'll gain my trust again. I want to see how I'll fall for you again. I want to get old with you. I want to spend my whole future with you. You can't leave me like this." Cries came out of her mouth as she placed her head on his bandaged chest, inhaling his natural scent.
"K-Kaeya, just please once say that you've forgiven me. I- I'll be satisfied knowing this." He croaked out, barely audible.
She knew she is ready to come past everything by now.
She was even ready to-
And then it was the sudden loud beeps of the machine, making her observe her surroundings.
She felt like all of her breath was knocked out of her lungs as she took in Yuvaan's state.
He was breathing so heavily, his chest heaving up and down, a sight that appeared scary to her. It felt like he was fighting with himself and fighting with air and the pain in his body.
The doctors and nurses came running in the very next moment, them checking him, the tension in this room increasing each passing second while Kaeya kept shouting only one thing.
I have forgiven you Yuvaan.
I forgive you.
I forgive you...
Please wake up.
In a flash she was ushered out of the room, no matter how much she tried to fight on staying with him.
Sobs wracked from her tiny body that was curled up on the support with support to the wall of his room outside, her mouth only chanting for him to wake up and not leave her now that she's forgiven him.
Because if he would die, there was no way she would be able to survive in this world.
Hours later the doctor appeared from his room with a solemn look on his face, agony surfacing his mind.
"I am sorry Mrs. Shah but......"
