I Want You Back
"Peter," Charlie whined from her spot on his bed. "It's like deathly silent, c'mon!"
The whole reason she wanted the radio to on was to see baby Groot dance. The plant had regrown with time and he was about a foot tall. She caught him dancing once to a certain Jackson Five song -freezing when Drax looked over- and now Charlie had a game going on between herself and Groot. Whoever could last the longest without Drax noticing won.
Peter stared at his girlfriend. He wanted to turn on the music as well, however, Rocket was still asleep. He feared that if the music was too loud, the raccoon would go on a rampage.
"Just quietly." She tried, batting her eyelashes.
Peter groaned and put his hands over his eyes. He absolutely hated when she pulled that face on him. Grinning, she jumped up and ducked underneath his hands, pecking his pink lips. "For mee?"
Peter rolled his eyes, "Whatever. If Rocket screams at us, it's your fault."
"Fabulous." Charlie responded.
Peter glanced around first. With Rocket not in sight, he tapped on the radio and scurried to the cockpit. It would make it seem like the least qualified victim.
Charlie rolled her eyes. She flipped through the mix tape, stopping on Track 6. One more song before The Jackson 5 - I Want You Back.
She leaned out, seeing Peter busying himself with sandwich making. In one quick motion, she cranked the volume and darted to the back of the ship.
Drax was cleaning his weapons when she walked in. He smiled before returning to his work.
Groot perked up when he saw Charlie in the doorway. He watched as she made herself seem casual, just waiting for Drax to zone out.
And then it happened.
The familiar beat of I Want You Back rang through the ship, and Charlie busted into a groove, her whole body swinging to the beat. Groot followed her lead, slowly, to make sure he could freeze before Drax caught him.
Charlie stared at Drax as she danced, her arms raising above her head. She was just about to break into the Sprinkler when he turned. She quickly scratched the back of her head and Groot went still.
"Hiya, Drax." She greeted.
He smiled before looking back down. Charlie moon-walked to Groot, holding out her finger to him. With her finger in tiny hand, they passed the wave back and forth through each other.
A low giggle caught her attention. Gamora and Peter stood at the doorway, watching the other two.
"Hello, friends!" Drax said.
Peter and Gamora waved quickly, wanting Charlie and Groot to continue dancing. When Drax looked away, all four of them busted into ridiculous dance moves. Peter dipped Gamora in his arms and spun her around in circles while Charlie held Groot's pot in her arms.
She accidentally bumped into the sink, making Drax's head shoot up. Panicking, Charlie flipped on the faucet to look like she was watering Groot.
"Oh!" Charlie gasped when tiny hands started smacking her wrists.
She was drowning Groot in water! She quickly smacked the faucet off and shoved some paper towels into his soil. Groot twisted his leaves, ringing them dry.
"Good thing I didn't get you a plant an anniversary gift." Peter said, winking as he hopped past her.
Charlie bumped her hip into his, sending him a glare. After she set Groot back on the counter, she went near Gamora to dance. Charlie broke out into the famous Saturday Night Fever dance; Gamora attempting to try it too. Charlie had to smack a hand over her mouth to hide her giggles - Gamora looked like she was having a seizure.
"More like this," Charlie demonstrated. Within seconds, Gamora had gotten the dance down. John Travolta would have been proud.
"WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!?"
Gamora and Peter dove behind Charlie for protection, Drax kept his head down and Groot moved the stack of napkins in front of himself. They made it so obvious it was Charlie's fault.
The angry raccoon stomped around the corner and into the room, his teeth already barred.
"Morning." Charlie said, a cautious smile on her face.
Rocket snarled at her. She shifted her feet, shaking her hips to the beat.
"Come on, Rocket. You can't deny that you can't feel that beat." She teased, dancing in slow circles around him.
Charlie continued to tease him until she finally swept her favorite rodent into her arms and did a fast-paced walz, with him shouting profanities the entire time.
Their dancing game had stopped, because Drax was watching, but now she had them all smiling at her. And that was the best game she could ever win.
