eighteen
"You killed Maeve!?" Enzo shouted, as Adam sighed, "Unfortunately she got in the way. Maeve the Martyr, loyal to those she is close to.. but it cost her life in the end." He said.
"You are sick!" Weiss hissed, absolutely appalled by how calmly Adam was talking about this. "You're a monster.." Jaune glared the faunus down. "How could you!?" Nora cried out.
Everyone put their own opinions of the Taurus out there, as he seemed unfazed.
"Why did you do it?" Nova seethed, a sternness in his voice. Adam turned to him, as the panther faunus had the most angry expression on his face. "Because... we were all going to die anyway." Adam answered.
Stella and Jaune frowned, remembering back to when Davina got floated.. and the events beforehand.
"Do you have any last words?" Jaune asked, facing the raven haired girl. Davina shrugged, "You guys can keep playing games as much as you would like, but you're all going to die anyway... especially with lousy leadership from you two." She declared. "We're not playing any games.. we're just trying to survive." Jaune insisted.
"That's what Davina said too.." Stella blurted, quietly as Adam turned to her. "Davina wasn't lying." He said.
Pyrrha frowned, "What do you mean we're all going to die!?" She asked, visibly frustrated. Adam turned to her, "Did you really think we were offered cheap courses to become astronauts, to find any signs of life outside of Earth?" He asked.
Everyone stayed silent.
"The world is overpopulated. The whole reason these courses were offered so cheaply was so they could send groups of astronauts into space at a time, so they could be left to die. There's no going back. We're all going to die here." Adam insisted. Jaune shook his head, "You're lying." He accused.
Adam and Enzo sat in the swivel chairs in navigation, Ari stood towards the door, fixing up the wires. Davina suddenly entered the room, hoping to chat to Adam.
"I'm struggling to get this thing to work.." Enzo insisted, as he was trying to get a radio signal. Suddenly, a voice was heard through the small speaker, visible to all of them.
"Ship number 636 is up in the air, it's estimated that the crewmates will all be dead within less than six months."
Adam, Enzo, Davina and Ari all shared a confused and surprised look.
"Thank you sir. We're fixing overpopulation, one ship full of crewmates, at a time." And then the radio died.
"What the fuck?" Enzo blurted, before he looked to the others in the room, worry written all over his face. "We're all going to die here!?"
"It seems so." Davina answered, before swallowing thickly. The idea of never seeing Isabelle again, brought her so much despair. Adam looked over to her, "D?" He asked.
Davina blinked away the tears that were threatening to fall. "What are we supposed to do? The radio is as good as dead and we are thousands of miles away from Earth." She asked.
"Let's check around the ship. Check how much fuel, food and water we have and estimate how long we really have until it all runs out. There was plenty when we boarded the ship." Ari insisted. "Yeah but they were supposed to send us a space pod full of more supplies in six months time. That's clearly not going to happen."
With that, the four parted ways and reconvened in twenty minutes. "We'll probably run out of fuel within three months, but even what we have currently isn't enough to get us back to Earth." Ari explained. "We'll have no water within about four months." Davina said. "We only have enough food to last barely three months." Adam answered.
"What are we going to do? Will we tell everyone?" Davina asked. "And spend our last months worrying over trying to survive when we won't? No." Ari insisted. Adam was awfully quiet, which Enzo noticed.
"Adam?" He asked.
Adam turned to Enzo, "I have an idea."
"So killing us all one by one was your idea?" Elena asked, as Adam nodded. "You're fucking sick!!" Nora called out.
Adam had told them the story, but for obvious reasons left Enzo's name out of it. It was for this reason, that Enzo was pretending like this was all a complete surprise for him too.
"How could you!?" Enzo yelled out, his eyes welling with tears. "I had to do what was right— We were all going to die anyway. Why not have a little fun instead of worrying our last months away. Besides— There was already unfinished business and tension between some people, which made it easy."
"We're all going to die.." Jasper managed to say, feeling a sinking feeling in his stomach. Stella looked to Jasper, "We will worry about that later. Adam needs to go."
Adam held up his arms, not fighting his fate as he walked towards the air lock. Jaune and Stella shared a look, before they both left, walking towards the air lock.
Weiss headed towards storage, but Nova called out to her, "Weiss! Where are you going?"
"To Blake. Right now she needs a friend."
With that, the Schnee was gone.
A feeling of despair and dread filled the crewmates, as they looked at eachother. Enzo stayed silent, still seeming to mourn his twin. "I'm going... to go to my dorm. I just.. need to be alone." He admitted.
Everyone watched sympathetically, as he walked towards the dorm rooms. "Hey Enz, if there's anything we can do—" Pyrrha began but was cut off. "Thanks." The Lopez replied.
Meanwhile Weiss entered electrical, finding Blake sobbing beside Maeve's body. "Blake.." She managed to say, as the cat faunus turned to the Schnee. "I... I should never have left her side— I ran!! Like a coward!!"
Weiss felt her heart sink, as she reached forward and opened her arms. Blake practically fell into them, hugging Weiss as she sobbed. The Schnee hugged back, trying not to think about the blood that was staining her clothes, as she let Blake cry it out.
Jaune and Stella watched as Adam was floated. Silence filled them, before Jaune turned to Stella. "We're all going to die, aren't we?" He asked. Stella shook her head, "We're going to figure this out. We are going back to Earth."
But little did they know, things weren't going to get easier anytime soon.
