GTG Rant

I can't believe I'm ranting yet again on GameToons' content. It just feels like for every time they upload or try something new on this channel, they take a step in the wrong direction.

Don't be fooled by the points I'm about to address, I still like GameToons and their separate channels, but nowhere near as close as before. Among Us Adventures, before the name change, used to be a nice little distraction from our weekly scheduled uploads.

It provided us with Among Us mods from an actual gameplay perspective, entirely unscripted for the most part (I think...), but still had all your favourite AUL characters that were having a blast and heaps amount of fun that even changed up every now and then. Plus, there were funny little machinimas that panned out like actual episodes, which still felt like AUL at the end of the day, even if it's low budget.

So, you're probably wondering what the hell happened, if you've been living under a rock for the past 6 or so months. Well, here's the video that's pretty much changed the future for this channel:

Besides giving a famous YTer some love and adoration for an entire week, I believe that this is the main source of GTG's content spiralling downhill, and I'll explain my reasons below, starting with:

Completely Different Mission

Like any regular Among Us game, the main objective to win as the Crewmates is to get rid of the Impostor by using deduction and murdery investigatory type skills to vote them out, or by finishing every single task.

The older mods changed up how the Impostor can cause havoc around the map, but the objective remained the same, regardless.

However, take away the former half of that sentence and you're left with the modern, more recent mods introduced on this channel.

It's no longer about finding out who the Impostor is; It's about defeating this weird ass creature/thing and the only way to do it is the latter. The video doesn't exactly show this, but it's an inspiration, let's say.

The powers that the "Impostor" possesses are quite similar for each mod, mind you. A lot of them have multiple phases, a projectile that you have to dodge directly, objects that you have to avoid falling from the sky/move in various directions across the screen and a teleport to a completely different environment to dodge shit.

The kill and report button aren't used because you quite literally know who they are since they never transform into a bean, and it's to pad out the video length to around 10 minutes. At least, the older mods had several games in a video from different people's perspective.

And to sum up, as Player once said, this doesn't even feel like Among Us at this point.

Character Variety

The one benefit this channel has is reintroducing forgotten or rare characters to play alongside some of the regular, more popular characters in the series. Y'know, mix in B-Day and Gnome alongside new and completely original characters? That's awesome, they get more love and some crackships occur, so that's nice.

Why do I have an issue with this then? Well, it boils down to more or less the same characters being used over and over again in many of the recent mods being uploaded.

There are at least 9 common characters that appear consistently in each video, that I can think of; Mr. Egg, Mother, Gnome, B-Day, Dum, Hunter, PoopyFarts, Baggy and Wizard and maybe Captain, although that can vary because Ryan voices a shit ton of characters. It's not GTG, unless at least 5 of these show up for an episode.

The problem is that while some unpopular characters get attention, some of the regulars don't even show up half of the time now. Player and Veteran essentially have the equivalent amount of appearances as Greaser in the main series now, it's unreal.

Also, to add further salt to the wound, some characters have never even shown up whatsoever and have yet to appear, as I've stated in my previous post. Where's Rose, Bro, Angel, Ninja, or even Sheriff? You have so much potential to bring about more viewers and yet you insist on using the same characters over and over again, with I guess 1 or 2 different characters. But, even that's still a pretty rare achievement.

The only reason we got characters such as Engineer, was because of serious fan demand. Okay, that covers the Gnome situation, but what about B-Day, the screaming mad lad? No Rose to cover that particular situation? Even if it's not considered canon, it would be nice to see at least some more interaction between another couple, but no, Captain and Gnome hating each other is supposedly good enough.

Too many mods about FNF

I'm not surprised by this one bit. It was pretty inevitable that it was gonna happen at some point down the future path for GameToons. Unfortunately, we seem to be getting just a tad too many mods about this game.

It's bad enough that they've received a tremendous amount of hate from the FNFL videos requesting them to do literally anything else, so it should have been a clear indication to take it down a notch, right?

Nah, let's get Whitty and Carol and put the pair in practically the same mod for 2 videos. Don't stop there though, go even further and put a video consisting of Sky and BF, even though we've already seen their powers being showcased.

FNF is just an infection that spreads easily at this point. What makes this worse is that it basically implies that they're straight up ignoring the comments, besides "bring this character back in".

Name Change

As previously stated before, GameToons Gaming wasn't originally known by that name. They started off with a completely different name, "Among Us Adventures". There's a big reason why they decided to alter it, and it's due to basically not bothering with any more machinimas and instead focusing on more mods.

Machinimas worked a little bit differently compared to the ever growing number of mods presented to us, but it was still a brilliant, niche little side series. Why did they think it was a good idea to just completely abandon this type of content? Yeah, it's not as polished because of the gameplay aspect of things, but that's what made it charming and entertaining, especially the little hat jumping up and down when a character speaks.

Now, it's just "what type of mods you wanna see, guys? 😛" Yeah, can I request a mod that turns some videos into funny little sketches, instead of the lame guy that gets more swole as time passes and becomes way too overbearing and sometimes unbeatable, k thanks bye.

Gradually Becoming Scripted

Do you ever get the sneaky inkling that the characters, more specifically the actors who respectively voice them, are just a tiny bit less engaged and enjoy them a bit less than previous ones?

Nowadays, they don't even tend to laugh that often when something weird happens. It's just a scream for help at the sight of a monster, or just maybe a snicker or scoff, and that's probably about it for out of character like nature.

Originally, you can tell that they were really interacting and enjoying themselves, with stuff like B-Day trolling Gnome on the Hide and Seek mod on The Airship, or even the Fat mod where there was just constant laughing rolling around in a huge ass ball, especially at the ending where B-Day surprisingly killed the last Crewmates, with a hilarious one-liner.

I just don't sense that feeling from them anymore, and I have my suspicions as to why. It's probably due to the fact that they're most likely scripted now and it doesn't feel as genuine.

In the original, you can tell that characters were not just directly reading off a piece of paper, from the stutter sometimes. I think in one of the earliest ones, when Player introduced the No-Visor mod, he was saying phrases such as "Okay, so um, with the haunt power you can uh, stop people from moving around and do other cool stuff" (I know this isn't exactly what he said but just roll with it). The unexpected laughs stem from not knowing what this mod will do unless they attempt it for themselves and that's quite possibly the problem with these new episodes being released.

It's the case with Gnome's nervous breakdown whenever she was the Impostor. Amazing and makes her character stand out from the rest of the crew in a good way. Now she stands out as "I hate green people, even though I'm green, wtf?"

Repetitive Lines

Yes, Mr. Egg, I know we have to complete our tasks in order to defeat this Dark Souls type boss, but can you stop repeating it every 20 seconds thank you?

"Ooh, I wonder what happens when he reaches his second phase". I don't know, Baggy, maybe he grows even bigger and more grotesque and develops more powers, but you never know.

"Speaking of dogs, because this mod is conveniently centered around them, make sure to get your Cheddar plushie at Newscape-"

It seriously feels like I'm watching the final boss battle in Sonic Generations, the voice lines feel that repetitive.

No Individual Cameras

This is just a minor issue, nothing too extreme, but I kinda miss those little close ups on the top right hand of the screen, where you could see the character's full emotions. It added that little bit more of an immersion to the experience.

Now, it's just a blank face because it's part of the game and we're supposed to guess how they're feeling at that point by their voices. Again, nothing too major, but it would have been nice to see return at the very least.

Lack of Explanation about Powers and Abilities

Stop forcing us to watch the video to find out what powers the mod possesses, for god's sake. Just tell us right from the get go, just like you did with the original.

What if I still don't understand how a certain ability works? What, you're still not gonna tell me? Okay, that's fine.

Worst Catchphrase Spawn

Okay, this is a personal gripe I have, but the last reason I would rather watch paint dry is due to the fact that the most god-awful catchphrase in the history of media originated on this channel.

This isn't even a modern issue either, this was back in, like, early this year around March, certainly before Dragon Mod released on the main channel. I think you might get a hint from the episode alone what I'm about to say.

"So OP!"

Jesus Christ. I have never heard such a ridiculous, immature, mind-boggling catchphrase, in my entire life. It sounds so stupid, even Patrick Star can say something smarter. And that's saying something.

You know what the worst thing about this is? Captain said this in a video just you know as a supposed one time thing, people pissed themselves laughing and smiling, and said "fuck it, let's spam this in the comment section of the video and hopefully it'll transition to other videos and become popular."

To add insult to injury, this is probably Captain's most used catchphrase, besides his other two objectively better quotes.

Honestly, the line sounds so inappropriate at times and just kinda makes Captain look like an 8 year old by saying it.
It sounds so childish.

I've sharpened this pencil, so the pencil sharpener is so OP!

I've just been slapped for calling Mr. Cheese a bitch to the fanbase, they're so OP!

I just did the floss dance that totally isn't run down into the fucking grave, so now I'm so OP!

This line is such nonsense, that it gives me the idea to insert a cotton bud into my ear, further than the recommended amount. (You're a genius if you got the reference)

Anyway, those are my issues with this channel at the moment, and I know another user was gonna do a chapter on this so, here's a few headers and pointers, you might want to consider.
