Tour
Ryan helped Brendon get cleaned up while Dave went to find something new for Brendon to wear. The clothes Dave lent him fit fine. Well the shirt did. Brendon had some trouble squeezing into the pants. Dave and Ryan gave Brendon privacy and stayed in the kitchen while Brendon got dressed.
When he was finished, Brendon went to the door and heard harsh whispers coming from the other side. When he opened the door, the talking stopped. He felt uneasy as he made his way to the pair. Brendon kept his head down until he got to the table and peeked up.
Ryan's face was straight, making it hard to figure out what they were talking about. Brendon didn't have to look at Dave. He could feel the worry radiating off the man.
"Ready?" Ryan asked in a gentle voice that would've calmed Brendon in any normal circumstance. This wasn't a normal circumstance. He nodded hesitantly. Ryan turned to Dave, who wore all his anxious emotions on his sleeve.
"So what I'm basically gonna do is give you a quick tour. Then we'll go to where Ryan usually lounges around when the rest of us are out." Ryan punched him the shoulder. Dave grinned and clutched the arm Ryan just hit. "He'll show what he does when we get there. You ready?"
Brendon was beyond nervous. He wasn't ready to walk around pretending to be someone else with people who hated what he was.
"I guess." Ryan chuckled almost sarcastically at the response. Brendon looked down at his feet until he heard a thump and Ryan's voice.
"Ow." His head snapped up to see Ryan rubbing a spot where he guessed would be forming a bruise later from a hit. Dave was scowling at Ryan then gave Brendon a smile.
"Let's go." The three started to the door before Dave turned to Brendon. "Remember, um.. you're not Brendon out there anymore. You're Klaus. We can't risk people knowing who you really are." Brendon could see the pity in Dave's eyes. He nodded in understanding.
They headed down the hall and toward a new hallway. Brendon kept his head down as they walked. Dave was leading the way as Ryan kept beside Brendon.
"So, you obviously know the living area place." Dave's voice sounded unsure. "So I'm gonna show you where they keep the recreation stuff... in case you, you know, you wanna do... recreational type stuff."
Brendon looked over at Ryan who had his bottom lip trapped between his teeth. By the smile on his face, Brendon guessed he was trying not to laugh. They walked in awkward silence before Dave stopped and turned to them.
"Here's the gym." He opened some door and Brendon peaked inside. It looked like what he assumed a gym would be like if he ever went in one. "There's a door that leads outside to some basketball courts."
Brendon nodded, not really sure what to say. They continued on and Dave kept showing him irrelevant things. Brendon realized Dave didn't really know what he was doing.
They walked around for a while. Dave showed him the general area that Dylan Price spent a lot of his time, making sure Brendon knew what he should avoid it. They were a few rooms the other men used to practice shooting in. Dave also showed Brendon were to find the 'good' vending machines.
Brendon stayed silent throughout the whole tour until he noticed some large white doors with a red outline at the end of a separate hallway. It was hard not to notice them when everything else was grey in comparison, literally.
"What's in there?" Ryan and Dave stopped and looked down the hallway Brendon gestured down. Dave's face paled and Ryan began looking around at everything but the doors or Brendon.
"Don't ever go in there." Dave's voice was a mixed between aggression and panic. Brendon frowned. That didn't answer his question. It only gave him more.
"Why not?" Dave grabbed Brendon's arm and pulled him forward in the direction they were moving.
"Just trust me. You don't want to go in there." Brendon looked at Ryan who kept his head down as he walked. He looked over his shoulder, but couldn't see the doors anymore.
A voice in Brendon's head told him to listen to Dave without question, but his curiosity was getting the better of him.
"So this." Dave voice got Brendon's attention again. "Is the hospital wing part of the building." He looked at Dave holding open a door. Ryan went in and Brendon followed.
He looked around and saw empty beds with curtains diving them. Ryan was heading to one of the small back rooms. Brendon turned to Dave confused. Dave nodded for him to follow. When he went into the room, he saw Ryan collecting linen sheets.
"What's he doing?"
"This is where Ryan works. They didn't think he was man enough to go out with the rest of us, so they made him a nurse," Dave said with a small laugh. Ryan sent Dave a glare over his shoulder.
"I am not a nurse." Dave let out less suppressed laugh.
"You're not a doctor and you work in the hospital. You're a nurse dude." Ryan just frowned, mumbling angrily to himself.
"I like nurses," Brendon spoke up. "They're the ones who do most of the work when caring for people. They don't get as much appreciation as they deserve." He saw Ryan trying to fight a small smile as he went back into the main room.
"Well, I'm glad you like nurses because Ryan is going to train you to become Nurse Bre- Klaus. Nurse Klaus," Dave corrected himself. Brendon grimaced for a moment. He forgot about the whole new name thing.
He looked over at Ryan who just pulled off an old sheet from one of the beds. He glanced at Dave before moving over to Ryan. He grabbed the corner of the clean sheet Ryan was holding and helped him spread it over the bed. He gave Ryan a small smile and got one in return.
"What else do you do?" Ryan kept his eyes low as they moved to the next bed.
"Not much. When I get in, I change the sheets, make sure we're stocked up on supplies. I don't know. I just try to find small things to keep me busy. Not a lot of people come in here. If they do, it's just for some aspirin or bandages cause they cut themselves," Ryan finished with a shrug.
"That sounds incredibly boring." Ryan chuckled softly. Brendon smiled at the sound.
"It is very boring, but gives me time to think and write."
"What do you write?" Ryan shrugged again, but this time had a light blush on his cheeks.
"Just thoughts and stuff."
"He writes songs," Dave yelled from across the room. Brendon and Ryan looked over to see Dave laying on a bed with his eyes closed, hands behind head and his ankles crossed. Brendon looked back at Ryan who's blush now consumed his face.
"Are they good?"
"I wouldn't say they're goo-"
"They're amazing. He's a very talented man," Dave yelled again.
"What are you still doing here?" Ryan's glare didn't look as threatening as it should have been with his blush still visible. Dave chuckled.
"Klaus is my responsibility. I gotta make sure he's properly trained."
"Do you wanna show him what to do then?" Ryan shouted as they were finishing up the last bed.
"Nah, I think I'll watch from over here." Ryan huffed in annoyance. Brendon chuckled softly and began staring at Ryan. He hadn't intended to, he just found Ryan aesthetically pleasing. The frown pulling down his thin lips and creased eyebrows made him look innocent. Not that he wasn't innocent, Brendon didn't know. The look just catch Brendon's attention.
Ryan shook his head, his hair moving with his movement. Brendon had to stop himself from reaching over to run his hand through the brown locks. Their softness just looked so inviting. Brendon shook his head to clear his mind.
He stood, silently staring as he waited for Ryan's next instructions. When Ryan turned Brendon, the younger looked away quickly, unable to stop the heat spreading over his cheeks.
Ryan sighed and gathered half the old bed sheets and Brendon grabbed the rest. Ryan led him to a storage room and dropped the sheets into a basket. Brendon copied his actions.
He looked around to find a clock. He assumed it hadn't even been half an hour yet and he guessed they didn't have much else to do. When he looked over at Ryan again, the man was at a shelf, collecting several items.
"Need some help?" He stood beside Ryan. The older looked up at him then down at his overloaded arm.
"Um, yeah. That'd be great actually." Brendon took most of the items from Ryan and let the man collect some more. When Ryan thought it was enough, he led Brendon back into the main room. He set the things on a counter and helped Brendon unload.
"What's all this for?" He looked over, inspecting the items they gathered. He picked up a bottle of pills, briefly reading the label.
"The pills are what the other guys ask for a lot, so I try to keep extra closer to the desk. The wraps go by fast because I play with them when I'm bored and have writer's block."
Brendon set down the bottled and looked over the other items. Ryan opened some cabinets hanging over the counter. They contained a variety of medical supplies.
Ryan put away their collected items and moved over to a chair at the front desk. Brendon looked over at Dave who apparently fell asleep. He went over and plopped down into a spare chair beside Ryan.
"What now?" Ryan had a wrap in his hands, unraveling it. He gave a chuckle, almost as if he heard a joke that Brendon didn't. His eyes stayed trained on the wrap as if it were the most interesting thing ever.
"Wait," he responded after a minute. Brendon watched Ryan because he was the most interesting thing in the room to him. Ryan had his bottom lip pulled between his teeth as he wrapped his hand, unwrapped and rolled the wrap.
Brendon glanced over at Dave then back at Ryan. Everything was calm and quiet. A content smile spread across his face. Maybe this new life thing wouldn't be as bad as he thought.
