It's Over
Brendon was trembling as he was being escorted down the hall. He looked back to see Ryan walking with his head low. They were bringing them to the center of the room that they were in yesterday. A crowd of people was forming around them.
Brendon's heart was pumping rapidly in his chest. He snapped his head to the sound of a familiar voice pushing through the men. When Dave made it in view of the boys, his face paled. A frown quickly concealed his horror and he marched over to Kenny who was smirking like the jackass he was.
"What the hell are you doing?" Kenny rolled his eyes.
"Like you didn't know what was happening between those two."
"What are you talking about?"
"I caught these two making out. That's what I'm talking about." Dave looked like he was ready to punch the smaller man, but kept his mouth . "Now are you going to confess to knowing or are you going to shut your mouth and learn your place here?" They were in each other's face, waiting for the other to make the first move.
"It was my fault," Brendon blurted, getting everyone to look at him. He had his eyes on the floor, trying to work the lump down his throat.
"What are you blabbing on about?" The man holding him hissed. He looked over at Ryan, seeing the fear written all over his face. His mouth was agape, head shaking subtly.
"He tried to push me away, but I forced him to kiss me." He looked away when he heard a soft 'no' from Ryan.
"Like we're gonna believe you," Kenny laughed.
"My name is Brendon Urie." Kenny's cocky smile dropped. "I'm sure you recognize the name." There were whispers going through the other men. "I was getting bored and wanted a little action. Can't blame me for going for the boy closest to my age."
"So you admit to your crimes then?" Brendon wanted to laugh. What crimes? If finding the same sex attractive was a crime, then he was guilty as charged.
"Ryan had nothing to do with it. He didn't want it."
"Brendon," he heard Ryan whisper.
"You'd take full responsibility for this?"
"You can't hurt him. Do what you want to me, but let him go."
"Why would you do that? You'd give your own life for him?" Brendon only stared at Kenny. "Why? Do you love him or something?" Brendon looked down at the floor. "Oh!" He squeezed his eyes shut. "Isn't that pathetic. Little gay boy falling in love with one of us."
"Brendon," Ryan called him in a soft voice.
"Let Ryan go," Kenny ordered. When Ryan was released, Dave pulled him into a tight hug.
"Don't fucking scare me like that again," Dave whispered. Everyone knew the pair were like brothers and didn't think much of the interaction.
"Your kind is a disgrace. Trying to corrupt Ryan with your lifestyle. The people are lucky to have people like us to get rid of you filth." An arm shoved Brendon down to his knees. He looked up at Ryan who managed to struggled away from Dave enough to meet his eye. It pained Brendon to see the fear in the boy's eyes.
He looked back to the ground, noticing the red stain that they couldn't get out from their last execution. He let his eyes flutter shut and tried to keep himself as calm as possible. He let out a shaky sigh when he felt something hard press to the back of his head.
This is it. He'd been running from death for too long now. It finally caught up to him and a part of him was relieved. He was tried of living in fear. All he could do was accept his fate now.
"Any last words?" Brendon took a deep breath and shook his head. He flinched at the sound of a gun getting cocked.
"Stop!" The gun moved away allowing Brendon space to look up. "He's lying!" Ryan pushed himself out of Dave's arms.
"Ryan, stop." Ryan started moving toward Brendon before Dave wrapped his arms around the small body. He managed to pin Ryan's arms to his side and hold him securely. "Keep going," Dave told Kenny.
Brendon felt a part of himself break, but he understood. Dave's main priority was Ryan, not him. He would've chosen Ryan's life over his also. Brendon could see the guilt on Dave's face before the man looked down at Ryan, focusing on keeping him contained.
"No!" Ryan was thrashing against Dave. He kept trying to kick himself free. Brendon looked down again, not able to see him freak out.
'Ryan, please stop. This is the only way to keep you safe,' Brendon thought to himself. He let a tear fall as the gun pressed to the back of his head again.
"I love him!" Scattered gasps sounded throughout the crowd. "Leave him alone please," Ryan cried. Dave's grip loosened out of shock from the confession, allowing Ryan to pull free and rush to Brendon. He instantly fell to his knees and cupped Brendon's face. Brendon was greeted with a deep kiss that melted his insides.
"You're stupid Ry," Brendon whispered when they broke apart. Ryan let out a weak laugh.
"I don't care," he replied before connecting their lips again.
"This is sweet and all, but can we please continue?" Kenny sighed in annoyance.
"Ryan," Brendon started in a soft shaky voice. Ryan wrapped his arms around his neck and held him close.
"I'm right here." Brendon closed his eyes and held tightly onto Ryan. He could hear Dave screaming for them to stop before he blocked it out. The last thing he heard was a loud bang from behind him.
He was surprised not to feel any pain, but rather a load of commotion going on around him. He opened his eyes to see uniformed men with guns everywhere, surrounding them, pinning men to the ground, blocking the exits.
"What's going on?" Ryan whispered into Brendon's neck. Brendon didn't realize how much the boy was trembling.
"I don't know." Brendon tensed when a man came up to them. He helped them to their feet and offered a friendly smile.
"You're gonna be okay now," the stranger said. Dave came running and pulling Ryan into a hug.
"Oh my God, Ryan." Let out a heavy breath accompanied with tears. This was the first time Brendon had ever seen Dave cry. It almost brought him to tears.
"Let's get you guys out of here." the man began leading them through the crowd. Brendon's eyes caught Kenny pinned to the floor, getting handcuffed. "I'm sorry it took so long to find this place." The man sounded guilty. He wouldn't be able to imagine the stuff Brendon went through, but at least it was over. Right?
"So what happens now?" Ryan asked when they made it outside. There were multiple ambulances and swat cars parked around the building.
"Now, you will get put into a protection program where we'll make sure to keep you safe. Ryan moved into Brendon's empty arms, immediately getting embraced. Brendon held him tightly.
"We'll be safe?" Ryan questioned. Brendon let out a small gasp.
"I can assure you those people will never be able to hurt you again." Dave started asking more detailed questions, but Brendon tuned him out.
Safe. Was he really going to be safe? Was this real?
"Hey," Ryan caught his attention. Brendon looked down at his face, Ryan's beautiful face. "It's over."
"Over," Brendon repeated. Ryan offered a wide smile and nodded.
"Now we're gonna go some place where we won't have to hide," Ryan spoke softly and pushed their foreheads together. "We gonna spend our lived together, happy and free." Brendon let out a quiet sob as the words sunk in. He'd been told that so many nights ago knowing it would never happen, but it was possible now. It was possible with Ryan in his arms.
"It's over?" Brendon couldn't believe it. This had to be a dream?
"It's over," Ryan confirmed and held tightly onto Brendon as let a wave of emotions hit him, all the pain and loss along with the joy and relief. Ryan held him as Brendon took a moment to feel free for the first time in way too long.
