Among strangers

A 32 year old woman wearing a black dress stood in a cemetery surrounded by complete strangers. The man she had loved for the past decade and who she knew for the past 13 years was gone. The ring he gave her still seemed bran new to her and yet everything it represented was a memory. She remembers the days back when they first met when she was 19 and he was 21. How they could get into the most random conversation about nothing in particular and the subject would change several times in that days conversation. She remembered how surprised she was when he finally asked her out. Their first date and what both of them ordered. Kissing his cheek after he took her bowling 🎳 just to see how he reacted. The first time he kissed her and what that led to. The first time they made love.
She also remembered him saying his main goal was to live to be 34 and if he saw 35 he would marry her. He had made it but just barely. Just one year ago he proposed to her and just the month before they had been married. It was small and quiet but still it meant everything to her no matter how short of time it lasted. No one had known but she was pregnant at the time. She didn't even want to tell him because she knew he could never be there for them.
As the ceremony came to an end she wiped a tear from her eye. She had thought she had cried so much lately that she didn't have any tears left. She guessed she was wrong.
A man just a few years younger than her started heading her way. She was about to walk off to avoid an awkward conversation with this stranger.
"Stardust" the guy said causing her to freeze in place.  Only one person ever called her that. Her late husband who she was at the funeral of. "Your his wife right?" The guy asked.
She nodded still in shock from hearing someone else call her by that nickname.
"I'm sorry we haven't met before. My brother wasn't that close with our family and kinda kept you a secret from most of us." The guy explained. "Dad was the only one he told until a couple months ago when I got a call from him. When I told mom about you she was beyond excited to have a daughter in law."
"Where did you hear that nickname?" She managed to get out.
"Stardust? It's what he always called you. I didn't even know your real name until the obituary came out."
"I'm sorry you just caught me off guard. You're CJ right?"
"Correct"
"He was the only one to call me stardust. He always said he wished he could thank the star that produced the dust that made me."
CJ handed her a tissue.
"I'm sorry that y'all weren't invited to the wedding. I didn't want my dad to hear about it and we found it unfair to invite family at all just to make it fair for both sides. Plus with him getting sick and the baby..."
"Wait, baby? B never mentioned a baby."
"I didn't tell him. I'm only a few months along and by the time I found out he was already suffering so much. I didn't want him worrying about me and a child he would never meet." She said as the tears started to fall more rapidly.
CJ gave her a hug. "He would have been excited to be a dad. I wish y'all could have had more time together to be a family."
"We had a few years really. He just refused to marry me until he was 35."
"That sounds like B. K, when he called me and told me about you he asked me to look after you for him."
Upon hearing her nickname that everyone called her by she didn't fill so alone anymore. Sure she had lost the love of her life but these people had lost a family member as well.
"Why don't I introduce you to the rest of the family. After all you and the baby should know his side after all. I'd hate for y'all to be all alone."
"I have my mom and cousin actually." K said. "But I've been dying to meet y'all since I started dating your brother."
With that CJ escorted her to introduce her to the family she had married into for the first time.
He had been wrong after all. His family may have been as messed up as hers but they were just as welcoming of her as hers had been of him after meeting him.

Ok honestly this was just a scenario I was writing down but it's getting way to depressing. Why am I doing this to myself?
