Chapter 7: Choice

Hanji's POV

Levi kept silent and kept to himself the entire ride home. Erwin drops us off at my apartment, and Levi continued to keep his mouth shut. When we entered my apartment, he collapsed on the couch, doing his best to avoid acknowledging me. As I made curry again, he doesn't bother to help make dinner.

Becoming fed up, I let the curry simmer on the stove as I sat next to Levi with a huff. "Levi, this silent treatment must stop."

For the first time in hours, he spoke to me. Angry, of course. But he's not angry with me. I think it's with himself. "I don't deserve to be here, Hanji. I could've lost 3 days instead of 3 years. I'm pissed with myself because... it was the smallest choice I could've made earlier. I abandoned you and it was my fault. Nothing changed-.

"Something changed, Levi. I thought you decided to leave us because you didn't want to come home after it was my fault for losing the baby. I thought you decided to run off with a woman and decided never to look back on us. That changed." I take his hand, sighing softly. "You wouldn't have known you would've lost 3 years compared to 3 days. You can't blame yourself."

"I can because I should've listened to the police. I could've handled you getting mad at me for not being there for 3 days. That's better than now... this is a curse. A curse for not waiting. I should've waited for those 3 days."

"If I'm honest, I probably would've divorced you if you didn't come home in those 3 days..." I chuckle, leaning close to him. "But that's not your fault. I'm sorry I blamed you. Just... come back. Raven needs you. I need you. Don't leave me again."

"Can I have time to think about this?"

"How much more time do you need?"

"Until tomorrow morning... please." He says, "I just need some time to think about this."

"Dinner's done if you want to eat," I say, taking a bowl of curry to the bedroom. As I watched the steam generating from the curry, I didn't have the urge to eat. I don't know why, but the feeling that he might choose to leave again kept plaguing me.

As the minutes ticked by, I heard the front door open and close. Creeping out of my room, I saw that the living room was empty. My worries were not for nothing. Levi left me again. I couldn't gather the strength to call him. My legs collapsed as I fell to the ground. I'm glad that Raven isn't here right now. I don't think I could be strong enough to tell her that Daddy is never coming back. And if he does show his face again...
