Chapter 7 - Text Message
*Luke's POV*
It was the day of our last show in the Asia leg, which was in the Philippines. I was excited because after the show, I would be able to fly home in time to be at Peyton's house before she woke up the next morning.
I decided to Skype call her. I knew it would've been early afternoon for her. She usually wasn't anywhere at that time of the day, but she wasn't answering. I tried calling again later. I still didn't get an answer. That worried me.
"Luke, what's wrong?" Calum wondered. He knew something was up with me.
"I've called Peyton a lot throughout the day. She's not answering. It's really bringing me down. I don't know what to think. I can't stop thinking about her.. if she's okay," I sighed.
"It'll be fine, Luke. You'll see her in less than twenty-four hours. Aren't you excited?" He smiled, trying to get me to be happy.
"Yeah, I just don't want anything to be wrong. What if she's ignoring me? What if she doesn't want to talk to me?"
"Why would she do that, Luke? She loves you. She wouldn't just not answer your calls because she doesn't feel like talking to you. Unless you've done something terrible, she's going to answer you."
"That's just made me even more worried!" I exclaimed.
"What I mean is that she's probably just busy. Did she tell you she'd be away for today, or something like that?"
"Never," I got really worked up, "I'm so worried about her, Calum.."
"You'll be fine, Luke. Peyton will be okay too. You don't need to worry about her. Now let's get going to the venue. We need to rehearse," he waved for me to come with him.
I walked behind him into the van, and we left for the venue with the other two boys. Ashton and Michael both knew something was wrong with me.
"Luke, what's the matter?" They both asked, almost simultaneously.
"It's Peyton. She hasn't been answering my Skype calls," I answered.
"Maybe her computer crashed," Michael shrugged.
"She would've texted me," I looked away from them.
"Maybe she's grounded," Ashton suggested. I shook my head.
"Her mum almost never grounds her. I just want to stop talking about this for a while. Would that be okay?" I calmly asked. They both nodded. Calum looked at me with a sympathetic smile.
We got to the venue and began practicing. As we practiced Beside You, I began to tear up. I started crying until I couldn't sing correctly. I had to calm myself down, then start again. The second time was better but not great. I tried a third time and finally got through without crying.
"Luke, you need to make sure you don't have an outburst tonight, okay?" Adam looked at me very seriously.
"I won't let that happen, Adam. I'll control myself," I promised him.
"You better. I don't want you crying so much that you can't keep singing. Make sure you keep it under control."
"I will," I nodded, and we continued to practice.
------
Later that night, we were close to the end of the show. I couldn't believe that in not too long, I would see Peyton. I constantly thought about her through the concert. It came time to sing Beside You, but I didn't tear up.
"I'd like to dedicate this song to my beautiful girlfriend who is currently at home in Australia.. I'll see you soon, Peyt," I smiled as I played the first chords in Beside You.
"Within a minute, I was all packed up.. I've got a ticket to another world. I don't wanna go. I don't wanna go," I sang, feeling the tears poking at my eyes.
I was able to get through the song without crying, but I still thought about Peyton during the whole song.
"You've been a great audience, Manila!" Ashton exclaimed after we sang our last song, one after Beside You.
We all said goodbye, waved, then ran off of the stage. I was breathing heavily. The Asia leg of the tour was now over.. I got to go home for two weeks. I was glad would be able to spend those two weeks however I wanted. I knew how I'd spend the two weeks: with Peyton.
We packed up all of our things and left for the airport. Our flight took off pretty late, but I knew we'd make it home before Peyton was awake. I'd be able to surprise her when she woke up.
The whole time on the plane, I was worrying about what Peyton could have been doing when I was trying to call her. I couldn't think of many reasons why. I really hoped she wasn't ignoring me. I wouldn't be able to handle that.
------
We got off of the flight in Australia in the morning. I turned my phone back on and found that I had a notification from Paisley; she had texted me.
The text read: "Luke, my mum, Maria, and I are at Sydney Hospital with Peyton. We're about to go in to see her, room 238. We'll explain what happened when you get here:) -Pais"
