Christmas Special
Sorry I haven't updated this story in the longest time! To be honest, my Sonic x Reader is so close to being completed that I was focusing all my time on that. However, I won't be finished in a while unless I kick my writing into high speed. Anyways!! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! I hope you all enjoyed your time together with family, and I hope this update is a good enough gift to you guys!! This chapter doesn't fall into the story timeline; its more like a one-shot or a drabble. Jerry will also have his memory back, so...YAY!!! Enjoy!!
Even though the lights were off in the vet clinic that Christmas Eve night, rodents alike were still running amok in the walls of the establishment. As the cats and dogs rested in their kennels, mice were getting ready to refer life-saving surgery. As some animals were resting by the fireplace in their furnished homes, rats were delivering medicine to their patients. After all, it was a hospital; a place that must always be on its toes and glowing with life.
You sat in you office, your long day at work was finally taking it's toll on your feet. You tossed your stethoscope on the counter before slipping your rear into your cushioned desk chair. You had to work until midnight another thirty minutes to go. While you were used to working long shifts into the night, you didn't expect so many patients during the Christmas season. You simply watched the clock slowly tick away its time. Just a little longer, and you can be done for the night. You laid your head onto your desk; you didn't know how many more patients you could take.
Suddenly, your phone rang. At first, you didn't want to pick it up. However, it was your job to pick up the phone and worry about the health of your patients. To avoid the phone would mean breaking the doctor's creed, and losing your career. Not exactly the best thing to do so close to Christmas. You picked up the phone, hearing a female receptionist on the other side.
"Hey, Dr. (L/N). We got a patient for you in room 7. Young boy mouse with an upset stomach."
"Sounds easy enough," you muttered to yourself. "What's the name?"
"Nibbles," the receptionist answered. "Brought in by Jerry Mouse."
With that, you quickly laid the phone on the machine and grabbed your stethoscope. You ran at a quick pace down the halls. You caught the eye of various doctors and patients as you dashed down the halls. Many people probably thought you had a dying patient, or was running about to keep yourself awake. While you were concerned about the young mouse's health, you were rushing for a completely different reason: Jerry.
It was two months ago when you were able to restore the famous mouse's memory. The two of you did stay connected, via email or even in person. However, you hadn't heard much from him in a while, and you felt concerned. A part of your mind forced you to think negatively. Maybe he was hurt when facing an evil cat. What if his memory loss had somehow relapsed? Could it be possible that he simply didn't have enough time for you? These thoughts had filled your mind recently, but now that you know that Jerry was in the facility, you wouldn't have to worry as much. You could even talk to him about hanging out sometime; if you could muster the strength and not stutter.
You knocked on the door before entering. You greeted the room members with a common smile, one that you had to wear whenever on the job. Immediately, you noticed the green color on Nibbles face. The poor mouse was clutching his stomach as a taller, older brown mouse rubbed his back in support. Jerry looked up, and immediately locked onto your eyes. You froze, only able to stare back into his. A small, kind smile crept onto Jerry's face. Your heart started facing, you began to feel your face heat up. No way would you be able to muster the courage to talk to Jerry. It was only when the young mouse groaned in pain that you focused your attention on your job.
"How are you feeling, Nibbles?" you asked as you placed your stethoscope over his stomach.
"Not.....good," the little mouse said, as that was all he could answer. "Too.....much.......pie-filling."
The poor kid ate too much when no one was looking. Who was watching the child at the time? You aimed a judgmental stare in Jerry's direction, making the brown mouse blush in embarrassment and advert his gaze. You shook your head in dismay, though a smile did cross your muzzle. You walked over to the sink and filled a small glass with water. Giving it to Nibbles to drink, you started writing down your suggested medicine.
"Just some overeating, so it's nothing major. I'll prescribe you something for the pain and to calm the stomach. You guys will have to pick this up in the pharmacy, and then call me in the morning," you stated bluntly, handing the prescription to Jerry. "Hope you guys have a Merry Christmas!"
You quickly ducked out of the room, no longer able to stand the awkwardness between yourself and Jerry any longer. You made a quick turn down a desolate hallway and walked a few steps down. Suddenly, you felt a warm hand grasp yours. Turning around, you saw Jerry looking at you in slight concern. No one was in the hall, only the two of you stood alone together.
"I-I wanted to talk to you," Jerry said. (Yes, Jerry can talk. He did in the movie along with Tom. The more you know XD)
It was very rare when Jerry would talk. He only speaks when he had something important to say to someone, and even then, they had to be alone. Jerry had only spoken to you a couple of times in the past; nothing more than a "Thank you" or "Goodbye."
You turned so you were completely facing the mouse. When he spoke, it meant he wanted your full attention. "What is it?"
Jerry was still, not completely sure of what to say. "We-well, we haven't talked in a while. A-and I know you're probably re-really busy and all."
You looked up at the clock on the wall; you're shift ended 4 minutes ago, but you weren't going to tell Jerry that.
"I-I never really thanked you personally for h-helping me when...ya know. I had a great time with you, a-and I still do. And....um."
You grabbed Jerry's hands gently, giving them a small squeeze. "Go ahead, I'm listening," you said. You hoped to give Jerry enough courage to speak to you and get his point across. Jerry was one of the bravest souls out there when it came to fighting felines, but place him alone with a girl and he becomes as shy as a possum.
"I guess I just wanted to say..."
Was this it? Could this happen to be the moment you were waiting for? You weren't going to lie, you fell for Jerry a while ago. Did he actually feel the same way towards you?
"...M-Merry Christmas," Jerry hastily stated.
"O-oh," you stuttered. You release the grip on Jerry's hands. You should've known. You were just a simple friend, nothing more. You still mustered the strength the smile back and responded in a somewhat sad statement, "Merry Christmas, Jerry."
You slowly turned back down the hall. You held back the tears, though your heart was indeed shattered. You sighed in dismay as you trudged back to your office. Just as you were about to head down another hall, Jerry stopped ahead of you. Confusion was plastered onto your face before the brown mouse quickly lifted your chin and gently kissed your lips.
The sparks flew all around you when you felt his lips on yours. You became unaware of everything else around you. Your heart was racing, and butterflies were buzzing in your stomach. It was exactly what you dreamed it would be. Seconds felt like hours before the two of you ended the kiss.
Jerry's eyes looked calm and lovingly at first, until reality kicked in and he became worried. "I-I'm sorry! I-I don't know what I was thinking!"
"Jerry," you calming stated.
"I just felt like this for a long time a-and-"
"Jerry."
"I'm so sorry if you don't feel the same way! I completely understand if-"
"Jerry!" you exclaimed, catching the mouse's attention. You grabbed onto one of the mouses hands gently. "I feel the same way. I was waiting for you to do that."
Jerry smiled, it was the largest smile you had seen on him in a while. He quickly hugged you before grabbing onto your waist and spinning you around in the air. Your laughter echoed down the barren halls, but made Jerry all the happier. He set you back down onto the ground, looking deep into your eyes. The two of you began to inch closer for another kiss your lips barely grazing when you suddenly remembered.
"NIBBLES!"
You became a house doctor for the night. You slept over at Jerry's mouse hole, watching little Nibbles to make sure he felt better as well as finally got the time you were hoping to have with Jerry. It was a Christmas night you would never forget.
