I'm a Walking Disaster
Title from Forget About It by All Time Low
(Alex's POV)
It's 2 am, and I'm still awake. I look over at Jack, sleeping soundly. I stand up, cringing as my joints crack. I lean over the bed and stare at Jack.
At one point, I loved him. What happened? Can love really be forgotten?
I reach out but stop inches away from his face. I'll admit, he does seem like my type. He's kind, thoughtful, caring. But he's also strong-minded, and patient.
I softly touch his cheek, cradling it in my hand. I pray to God that he doesn't wake up as I run my finger over his jawline.
Maybe I'm hoping touching him will make something in my head click.
I sigh softly and run my thumb over his soft lips. Have I ever kissed him? The tips of my fingers touch his hair. I just realized that his ear is pierced. I smile, but I want to cry.
I can't remember anything. I want to. I desperately want to remember everything, but I can't.
I retract my hand and sit back down in my mattress. Don't break down. Don't break down. Don't break down. Don't cry.
A single tear slides down my cheek.
Before I know it, I'm slapping my hand over my mouth to muffle my sobs.
"Alex?" Jack stares at me before coming down and holding me as I cry. "It's okay, let it all out," he pats my back softly.
"I-I'm sorry I'm s-so weak-" I manage between sobs.
"You aren't weak," he whispers gently. "You are the strongest person I know," he continues. "It's okay to be sad."
He holds me as I calm down. Once I can breathe normally again, he pulls away.
"You should try to sleep," he whispers. I realize how close we are. We could kiss right now. "You don't want to get sick because you didn't sleep," he continues, his eyes flicker down to my lips. I think he wants to kiss me.
Before I could do anything else, he stands up and sits on his bed. "Goodnight, Alex," he whispers.
"Goodnight, Jack," I answer softly.

In the morning, I wake up to the sun hitting my face. Which is way better than an alarm clock. I look over and see Jack stirring. He looks at me and smiles. I smile back.
"Did you sleep well?" He asks. I nod. "My parents are probably at work, so how about pancakes?"
"Sure," I shrug.
We run down the stairs and see the batter already made.
Jack walks over and reads the note before smiling. "Thanks, mom!" He says, even though his mom is at work.
He starts making the pancakes while I set the table up.
"PANCAKES ARE SERVED!" He shouts, carrying over a huge stack of pancakes. I clap as he sets them down. We sit down and start eating.
"We used to do this all the time. It was like a tradition whenever someone slept over," he grins. I smile and nod.
"Jack?" I look up.
"Hm?" He hums in response.
"Is there anything dire that I need to know- that I might have forgotten?"
"Not really, I've pretty much told you everything," he shrugs.
I nod and we eat in a comfortable silence.
"What do you want to do today?" He suddenly asks.
"I'm not sure," I shrug.
"How about we go to Andy Biersack's before school party? It's tonight at six," he suggests.
"Sure, I mean, I might as well try to re-meet everyone, right?" I try to joke.
He gives me a soft chuckle. "That's one way of looking at it," he shrugs. "Rian was going to pick us up, I'll just tell him that you're with me," he says, holding out his phone. I nod and clean up the table.
"Who's Andy Biersack again?"
"Really hot guy, one of the most popular kids at school, but he's really nice to people- unless you're a jerk."
"Sounds like a great guy."
"But he's straight," Jack says over-dramatically. He opens his mouth to add something, but stops and ever says it. I kinda hate that he's stepping around glass shards around me. He shoots me a slight smile before turning to wash the dishes.
~~~
"This party is lit!" Jack throws his arms up and dances to the music.
"Hello," a deep voice greets us.
"Hi, Andy!" Jack smiles. Andy smiles back. Wow, I know what Jack meant. Andy walks over to greet some other people.
"I WANT SPRITE!" Jack shouts and runs to the drink table. I bump into a bunch of people, some people just glare at me, others smile and greet me.
That's when I see her. I see Lisa sitting in a chair behind one of the tables. I see Rian and Zack walking to the food table, so I walk to Lisa.
"Hi, Lisa-" my jaw drops when she rolls over. She wasn't sitting in a chair. She's in a wheelchair.
"Hi Alex," she narrows her eyes. "What's up?"
"I- What happened?"
"What? Are you drunk?"
"I got amnesia. I can't remember anything after the first day of Freshman year."
"Oh," she mumbles. "I was in a car accident, paralyzed me from the waist down."
"I'm sorry," I say softly.
"Alex, we haven't talked in a while year. This is just weird for me."
"Wait what? Why?"
"We met new people. You met Jack and Rian. I met Tay and Jenna. We just grew apart."
"Oh-" I mumble. Why didn't Jack tell me?
"Anyway, Tay is probably waiting for me. I'll see you around," she says before wheeling away.
"Hello, Alex!" A cheery voice says. I turn around and see Vic Fuentes. Back in eighth grade, he was really popular. I don't know about after that.
"Hi, Vic."
"I heard about the amnesia. That must suck, huh?"
"Yeah..."
"Oh right, we're friends. Since Freshman year. You started making friends in Freshman year, thank god. You make Jack less crazy. He's still crazy, but not as-"
Suddenly I see Jack jump off a table. "Not as crazy..." Vic sighs and shakes his head. "Well, I have to go, have fun." He waves and leaves me alone. I walk to Jack who looks drunk as hell.
"Jack? Did you drink?"
"No- Sprite-" he giggles and leans against the wall for balance.
"He didn't drink any alcohol, which is why I'm freaking out. If he gets buzzed from soda, then... God help us," Zack sighs.
"Woooo! Partyyy-" Jack flails his arms.
In the corner of my eye, I see two guys laughing their asses off, watching Jack. I groan. Someone slipped alcohol in Jack's drink.
"I'm going to bring Jack home before he breaks something expensive," I tell Zack. "I'll call Uber, don't worry about me."
He nods and says goodbye to me before walking over to Rian.
He points to me and Rian waves to me. I wave back before putting my arm around Jack's waist and leading him out.
"Leaving so early?" Andy asks. I nod and call an Uber. "Well goodbye," he shrugs before walking off.
When we get to his house, his parents are already asleep. I quietly get him up, but he makes the occasional obnoxious noise. I drag him to his room and hand him some water.
"Lexyyyy- your face- it's so- cute-" he pokes my cheek.
"Jack, you're drunk."
"But I love you-" he mumbles.
My heart nearly stops. He doesn't mean that. He can't. I don't remember him. Not much.
"I think you're so sexyyyyy," he slurs. I roll my eyes and sit him up. He gives me a look before running to the bathroom to vomit. I rush over and pat his back.
"That hurts," he giggles when he stops. "I'm done," he gives me a thumbs up. Then his smile drops and he turns back to the toilet to puke.
After he's cleaned up, I force him to drink water. And yes, I had to change his clothes. I don't think my face has ever been that red from embarrassment.
"Lexyyyy- Kiss me," he leans forward but I pull away. "Do you love me?"
I sigh and looks at him. "Yes, I love you," I answer. I don't think I love him like that, just as a friend. Besides, he won't even remember it tomorrow.
"I'm going to sleepy time. G'night, Lexy!" He giggles and pulls the covers over his head.
~~~
"Fuck!" I wake up to Jack groaning and cursing like a pirate. "Fucking, fuckity, fucking shit," he groans.
"Jack?" I sit up and stare at him.
"My head feels like a drum and someone is just-" he air drums violently. He groans loudly.
"Where's the aspirin?" I ask.
"Bathroom, behind the mirror," he answers, shutting his eyes. "And please stop screaming," he grumbles.
I hand him an aspirin and water.
"Thanks," he smiles. "I didn't even drink. What happened?"
"Someone spiked the Sprite."
"Of course they did," Jack groans again. I walk downstairs and see pancakes already made.
I see a note from Jack's mom.
"I know Jack got drunk. But Zack called me and said that someone spiked the Sprite, and I trust Zack. But I also know that you, Alex is reading this. Thanks for taking care of my boy, even though you don't remember him. Have a good day. -Joyce"
I smile. She's smart. I toss the note in the garbage bin and bring the pancakes to Jack. He thanks me and we eat together.
"Let's not party tonight," he jokes. "But you have to get home, right?"
"Yeah. My mom said that I have to get home, but you can come over."
"Cool. Maybe I will," he smiles.
I start to remember last night. That was just drunk Jack talking. It's not true. It can't be.
I'm conflicted. I have no clue if I like him or not. And it's driving me insane.
"Alex? Did you hear anything I just said?" Jack raises an eyebrow.
"I-"
"It's okay. I said we should have a word to phrase if you ever remember everything. I don't know, it just feels like a good idea," he says, shrugging.
"Okay... it has to be obscure... So how about..."
"How about Neverland?"
"Why Neverland?"
"Because Somewhere In Neverland is my favorite song by you," he smiles.
"Okay," I answer softly. "I think it's a good word," I nod. He grins and hugs me before turning to drink more water.
"My heaaaad-" he sighs.
We make eye contact before laughing.
