Chapter 2: a single memory
Everyone left so I could change. The nurses insisted in helping me but I had to refuse. It was just changing clothes, it can't be that hard. I looked at the small desk next to the bed. Letting out a small whistle I saw balloons, get well cards, candy, and a bag.
I opened the bag and saw clothes. I heard talking outside so I quickly changed. Pulling the shirt over my head I opened the door and stepped out to see them all standing in a circle. I blinked a little, still disoriented.
"I'm trusting you guys to take me home." I said. They nodded quickly. Valt held out his hand with a smile. I didn't take it, I was unsure of what to do. After a few seconds he dropped it.
"Sorry, it's just, i'm used to holding hands when will go to places. Uh not in the weird way though! It's just... we're best friends since we were little and we used to do it all the time and so I just thought that we would, like always but I guess not since you don't remember me well and stuff so sorry about that I didn't mean it in a weird way— I swear!" he said so quickly I could barely understand.
I laughed a little. "Sorry, I just, I didn't understand why I needed to grab your hand. Sorry. We could if you want?" I said. "Wait really?" he said bouncing a little. "Yeah sure." I said as he grabbed my hand excitedly.
"Let's go to your house." Ken said in a voice barely above a murmur. The others looked at him weirdly. He blushed and held up his puppets. "(Y/N) let us introduce ourselves. I'm Beus." the brown puppet said. It's floppy ears and two teeth made it look friendly.
"And I'm Ker! I'm the more awesome one, clearly!" The blue puppet said. He had two pointy ears. "You look aggressive but you're kinda cute." I said laughing. "I thought we agreed that I was more awesome." Beus said sadly at Ker, his ears dropping and little paws tapping together.
"When did we ever do that? Even Ken here agreed that I was the best!" Ken widened his eyes and shook his head frantically at Beus who made crying noises. I looked at Ken, impressed. It was amazing how he held the puppets and made them move and speak. "Well I think you're both awesome." I said smiling.
"So there." Ken said quietly. Beus looked at me, or he turned to face towards me and laughed, a small, soft giggle. I couldn't help but laugh too. Valt soon joining in along with Rantaro.
"We have your key." Wakiya interrupted, clearly annoyed since he was being ignored. He held up a key. "Oh. Thank you Wakiya. But why do you have my key?" I asked him. Shrugging, he just handed it to me.
"Well, where do I live?" I asked. Valt pulled me down the street. They all started chattering along, all except Shu and Valt. Wakiya was bickering with Rantaro and I had a feeling that they did that often. Honestly, it was kind of adorable.
Shu was walking silently, his gaze on the floor. Valt just pulled me along as we passed house after house, and store after store. We stopped in front of a brick one. Vines were growing on the side and there was a huge tree in the back where moss was growing.
"Wait a minute. This is my house?" I asked surprised. "Yeah... don't you remember it?" Valt asked. "Not really." I said moving to look behind the tree. There was a shack. Not very big. I fumbled with the keys and opened the door.
Walking inside the cool air hit my face and I shivered. I walked up to a shelf and picked up a picture. A smiling, brown haired woman looked up at me.
"Let's go (Y/N)! We're meeting with Valt's mom." a smiling woman said. The woman in the picture. Laughter was heard as I ran to her. She picked me up and locked the door. I remember holding on to her and watching the door open again and... that's it.
"This is my mom?" I asked, looking up. Come to think of it... why wasn't she in the hospital along with my friends?
"That's your aunt, actually." Shu said quietly. "She passed away a few years ago." Valt said. "Oh..." I said pursing my lips. "We're not sure who your mom is, (Y/N)." Shu said.
"You never wanted to tell us." Wakiya added. "I wonder why...?" I asked myself. "Maybe I don't even know who she is." I told them.
"I think your exact words were, 'I don't need you looking into my past' all mean like and everything." Wakiya said scoffing. "Like we ever would."
"Wow, harsh much?" I said lifting and eyebrow. Rolling his eyes he crossed his arms. "I have a feeling you were always like that." I said the corner of my mouth lifting up a little.
I walked towards the stairs and looked up. "Is my room up there?" I asked them. "Yeah! Wait 'till you see the other two!" Valt said excitedly. He ran ahead of me and opened a door. Lights glared harshly at me. "Why is it so bright?" I looked at the window, which was large.
There was a glass wardrobe. But instead of clothes it had row after row of beyblades. "Why are there so many?" I asked. "They're yours. You said it was your ancestors! This really old one? The beyblade museum wanted to buy it from you! It was a lot of money too! But Shu said no and you didn't want to sell it either." He said wistfully.
"I really liked it. Valkyrie and I wanted to battle it so badly!" He said making fists with his hands, Valkyrie in his left. Rantaro laughed at that. "He really got fired up the first time you showed him. Remember Daina? He almost broke the glass by wishing so much." I laughed with him, even if I didn't quite remember that.
Then Ken looked at me with slight fear. "She got really mad too. She said we shouldn't ever open this thing!" Beus said. "Uh-huh that's right!" Ker agreed, nodding with his little arms crossed.
"What's the worst she could do, anyways?" Wakiya said laughing. I glared at him and he rolled his eyes. "Don't antagonize her, Wakiya. And that's enough you three, we shouldn't be in here." Shu said calmly. He was leaning against the wall with his arms crossed and eyes closed.
"Well look at you, mister edgy." I said. His cheeks colored ever so slightly and I laughed. "Looks like you're acting like your regular old self, (Y/N)." Shu said. "That's good, you'll get your memories back in no time." He said looking up and smiling. "Yeah, I hope so." I said returning the smile.
I walked towards the door, hopefully heading to my room. It felt familiar, walking towards the other room. Following my instincts I went to the drawer and opened it. There was a note, signed by Toshiro. I unconsciously grabbed my arm and I felt a pain in my head. The floor swayed under my feet. I stumbled backwards and I felt someone wrap their arms around me.
I looked up, my vision blurry. "Ran...taro?" I heard myself say. My voice felt heavy, my head filled with cotton balls. I closed my eyes to try and focus but I learned quickly that was the wrong thing to do. I felt myself grow heavy and tired and that's when I lost consciousness.

"If you don't give it to me! I will kill you. And your friends." A black haired male said. He glared at a terrified female.
His green eyes pierced into her. "Please! Don't do this! I will give it to you! Please don't... don't hurt them." She got to her knees and bowed down, her head to the floor. It was dirty. It was raining too, but it wasn't much, just a drizzle to make it even gloomier.
Tears streamed down her face. "Please." she whispered. "Just take it. Take everything but don't hurt my friends. They don't have anything... anything to do with this." The male laughed harshly.
He walked up to her and lifted her by her throat. She started coughing and scratched at the guys hands. "P... please st-st... op. Pl... ease..." she said between coughs. He dropped her and picked up an object. A black beyblade. It had several markings on it. A curvy Y on it and several spikes that were hanging down.
"I won't take yours, not yet. You seem to be attached to it." he laughed and threw it at her, hitting her head and dropping to the floor. A trickle of blood was heading towards her mouth. She pushed her hair back to reveal the wounds on her face. "You don't take her. She is mine. Nothing you ever do will make me give her up." she said angrily and stumbling to the wall once she had gotten up.
He just laughed.
The laughter echoed in my head. Familiar, and attached to the name. Was it Toshiro's laugh? Was he going to hurt me? My friends? Why? What did I do? And why couldn't I remember why someone was trying to kill me?
"(Y/N)!"
Someone was calling me. It was faint, but their voice sounded desperate.
"(Y/N)!"
Valt? It was Valt...
[Valt's POV]
I tried shaking her shoulders. "(Y/N)!" I yelled again. "What's wrong with her? Why did she fall down?"
Shu didn't say anything and instead pressed his ear to her chest. "Her heart is still beating. I think she just fainted." He said. Rantaro shook his head. "Her hand is trembling. Is this a seizure? What if she's dying?"
"Honcho, calm down. She's going to be fine. The doctor said we should all be calm if she ever does that. She has a lot of memories to remember. Her brain is just adjusting—"
"Yeah well she looks bad from what I can see!" Wakiya growled. I opened my eyes, lights blinking softly from the ceiling. "What's going on?" I said softly, pressing my hand to my temples tenderly. "You collapsed." Shu said.
"Oh."
"It's OK. The doctor said it's just your brain trying to catch up." Rantaro said. "Yeah, I think it went too far." I said sitting up. My head had been on his lap and I blushed a little. "How long was I out?" I asked them.
"Not long. A few minutes at most." Daina said. "While you were out we were thinking, some of us have to go home but maybe someone can stay behind with you." Beus said. "To help with your memories. Y'know?" Ker added. I nodded.
"Got it. So who's staying?" I looked at them and sat up properly. "I want too!" Valt yelled. I laughed. "Don't yell and we have a deal."
"Sorry." he said sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck. "I can stay." Daina said. "So you two then?" I said. They nodded in unison. "Alright. Thank you." I said gratefully.
We walked the others to the door and waved as they left. When I closed the door Daina's expression suddenly became curious. "What did you remember?" He asked. Valt's ears perked up and he focused his gaze on me.
"I don't really remember well. There was this guy who was killing me. He wanted to steal my beyblade. It was terrifying." I said holding my arms together. Valt immediately frowned and hugged you. "I'm sorry, (Y/N)." He said softly. He was slightly shorter than me. Not by much. His head rested on my shoulder.
"Thanks, Valt. But it's not your fault don't worry." I said ruffling his hair. "It's getting late. We should sleep. We'll figure it out in the morning."
"Yeah... alright." I said heading to my room. I laid down at my bed. And it sank with my weight. I closed my eyes, with a blanket covering me. Pretty soon, dreams came to me.
