Chapter 5: A Strange Apology

After about 2 hours of staying in her room thinking about today's events, Amity thought back to what she did when Luz and Eda came to her home and felt awful for doing it. They were just trying to help her, help that she was too prideful to ask for, and she took her frustration out on them for something that wasn't even their fault. Not even she knew about the protection spell her family put on her mind, something that made her trust in them thin so much but she didn't care about that now. Amity cared more about how she hurt Eda with her words and how she hurt Luz with her fists, it almost brought tears to her eyes as she worried she might've lost the first real friend she had in a long time. Long since she foolishly pushed Willow away.

'I need to apologize, I can't let what going on with me destroy my bond with my friends. With...Luz.' Amity thought as she wiped her eyes and headed to her window, deciding to sneak out instead of running then chance of running into her "siblings" or "parents."

She quickly made an abomination and commanded it to hold her while jumping out the window, letting it take the impact of the fall while she was uninjured. Amity got up and wiped some muck off her before heading into town to the owl house. She was lucky Luz brought her over once to hang out and still remembered the way. As she walked through the town, Amity didn't pay much attention to those around her and focused more on getting to the owl house and apologizing. So much so, that she didn't notice she was walking towards Boscha, who was not healed from their fight at school, as she was making fun of Willow and Gus.

"You know, this store is only for witches with real potential. A half witch like you would just waste her money and the stores goods." Boscha said as she stood in front of a store while Gus and Willow were trying to enter.

"Come on, Boscha. We just need to get some stuff for class tomorrow." Gus said as he tried to prevent Willow from getting angry, he knew well what would happen when she got angry.

" What are you going to do about, shorty?" Boscha asked with a challenging glare before catching sight of someone walking towards them, making her confidence vanish and make her shiver in fear.

"Boscha? Are you okay?" Gus asked as Willow's anger vanished as well, just as curious to why the triclops was suddenly shaking in fear.

Instead of getting an answer, Boscha quickly went to Willow and turned her arm before hiding behind her like a shield.

"Boscha?" Willow asked before she and Gus saw what made her cower in fear.

It was Amity Blight, walking down the road towards wherever with a look of remorse mixed with firmness like she was on a mission. It surprised Gus and Willow, since they never saw such a look on her face before, and just watched as she walked past them while Boshca continued to shake in fear.

"Is she gone?" Boscha squeaked out as she kept her eyes closed, still hiding.

She didn't get an answer as Amity continued to walk away, right towards the owl house until she finally arrived after about 20 minutes of walking.

'Here I am.' Amity thought to herself as she approached the door, planning to knock.

"Hey, Amity! Hoot!" Hooty said, making Amity jump back in surprise with a scream.

She had never seen a house guardian before and forgot that Hooty was alive instead of just a decorative design. Amity tried to turn on her heel and ran, but was met with bumping into Eda and falling to the ground. The owl lady noticed the one who bumped into her was Amity, the girl who got into a fight with her apprentice after they tried to help her. She was about to be rude to the young witch, before noticing the regretful look she was giving her.

"Hey, kid, what with the look and why are you here?" Eda asked as Amity picked herself up looked to Eda.

"I-I wanted to come and apologize." Amity said before she looked away in shame. "To you and to Luz, I shouldn't have said what I said or did what I did. It wasn't your fault the spell didn't work."

Eda was a bit surprised at Amity, knowing that she was Lilith's student and had a bit of pride with that. She didn't expect her to openly apologize like this but this secret was taking a toll on her. On her pride, her well being, and her connections.

"Looks it's fine, kid. We both said some things we regret." Eda said as she put a hand on her shoulder and lead Amity to the house. "I'm sure Luz will understand too. Though, She can be too forgiving sometimes."

"Yeah." Amity said as she had some hope in her eyes, wanting Luz to forgive her for what happened. "She is."

Eda opened the door and lead them both inside, seeing Luz working on some homework from Hexside on the couch in her normal clothes. She had a bit of a sad look on her face, most likely from what happened at Blight Manor and it made Amity feel guilty again. Amity looked to Eda and saw her give Amity a nod, telling her to go and get your friend back. She did a single gulp and took a breath to calm herself.

'Here goes.' Amity thought as she walked to the couch and sat down next to Luz, making her turn away from her homework and look at her.

"Amity!" she said in surprise, though a bit loud and blushed.

"L-Luz." Amity replied as she blushed, still thinking back to how she hurt her.

From the looks of it, Eda must've healed her arms since she didn't see any bruises on her arms. That at least lessened some guilt but not all of it.

"I...see that your arms are better." Amity said as she looked away a bit.

"Yeah, Eda's healing magic is pretty good. Can't wait to find the glyph for it ." Luz said as she tapped her finger on her homework. "Soooo, what do you plan to do while on suspension from school for two weeks?"

"Don't know. I can't go to Lilith since she'll be busy with the Emperor's Coven and even then, I'm afraid of how she'd react to me getting suspended." Amity said while looking very nervous.

"Hey, I'm sure you'll be okay. Lilith seems understanding, she is the head of a coven." Luz said as she put a supportive arm on Amity's shoulder.

"Yeah, she is." Amity said as she remembered some times in training she stopped Amity from pushing herself too much.

The two sat in silence for a moment as Eda left the room, heading into the kitchen for something.

"I-I" Amity said as she clenched her hands on her lap, beginning to cry a bit. "I'm sorry."

"Sorry?" Luz asked before remembering two hours ago. "Oh yeah, the spell. Don't worry about it, none of knew about that protection spell on your mind."

"It doesn't matter. You only tried to help me and I just hurt you and Eda in return." Amity said as some tears fell down her cheeks. "I just want to know what about about my past was hidden, Why it's so important that I'm not allowed to know. But that shouldn't make me hurt the ones I care about. Especially you."

This caused Luz to blush, not knowing how much her friendship meant to Amity. Or realizing how much it meant to her, sure Gus and Willow were cool but her bond with Amity, it felt different yet...better. And she didn't want to lose that.

"I-It's alright, Amity. I never blamed you for what happened. Yo-You were just upset and angry, I could never blame someone for that." Luz said as she smiled at Amity, who gasp and smile back with her tears coming faster.

It felt like her exhaustion for the lack of sleep and from being suspended was melting away, making her feeling start to feel better more than in about the last 12 hours. As the two smiled at each other, Eda had come back with a tray of multi-colored bottles and set it on the coffee table. To Amity, they were strange and never before seen, but to lose, they were quite familiar and she decided to answer her confused friends.

"I can feel from your face, I need to clear things up." Luz said as she took a bottle in hand. "These are called "sodas" and they're really good in the human realm. So good, that dozens of different types have been made."

Though still confused, Amity nodded to Luz and picked up a soda to look at. Luz chuckled at her curiosity to the drink and opened her own, taking a few sips before moving it away from her lips.

"Ah." she sighed in relief of the taste before she gave a slightly loud burp. "Buuup!"

The burp caused Amity to recoil in confusion while blushing, weirded out yet interested by the burp.

"What just happened? Why did you burp?" she asked Luz, who blushed and giggle a bit.

"It's just what happens when you drink soda, it's carbonated and it causes anyone to burp after just a few sips." Luz said as she held up her soda. "That one I did wasn't half bad but if you want a good one you gotta drink more."

"Half bad? Kid, that wasn't even half good." Eda said while rolling her eyes, picking up a soda and opening it. "If you think that is a burp, then let me show you a real one."

Eda then took a few sips of the soda and wiped her mouth afterwards, waiting a bit until she did a burp bigger then Luz's.

"BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUP!" Eda burped, smirking with pride as Luz laugh loudly at it before they heard a commotion.

They looked to the side of the room and saw King coming in while holding a hockey stick as a weapon.

"Who goes there!? I got a weapon and I'm not afraid to use it!" King shouted while looking around for what beast gave that "roar."

"King, it's alright. There's no need to fight." Luz said as she held up her open hand to calm him down. "We're just drinking some soda and Eda just gave a large burp afterwards."

"Soda? When did we get more soda?!" King asked with excitement as he dropped the hockey stick and ran to the table, where several bottles of soda remain. "Gimme gimme gimme!"

As the small demon hopped on the table and grab one, Amity just grew more confused on how good this human beverage was. It couldn't have been better then the beverages here on the Isles, could it?

"Why would your people drink this? To be loud?" Amity asked as she continued to gaze at the bottle of soda in her own hand.

"Somethings can only be answered by trying them and finding out how good it is yourself." Luz said as she gestured to the bottle she head. "You won't know unless you give it a taste."

"If I want to know, okay." Amity said as she opened her soda, twisting cap off and hearing the liquid sizzle as air rushed in.

Amity brought the bottle to her lips slowly before taking a sip, becoming shocked as the flavor hit her taste buds.

'This...is unbelievable!' she thought as the natural and artificial flavor mixed with sugar rushed to her brain.

The girl then pulled the bottle up and chugged the rest of it down, shocking everyone at how fast she was going. Once the bottle was empty Amity placed it on the table and took some deep breathes, calming down from the rush. Amity was about to saw something about the experience before she suddenly felt her stomach grumble, bubbling from the soda. Everyone was confused by it, wondering if she had an allergic reaction to the soda before the mother of all burps came from the green haired girl.

"BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUP!" Amity burped, making it sound like she broke the sound barrier before it finally stop and she covered her mouth while blushing.

The same could be said for Luz as her jaw was dropped and she sat with a blush, looking at Amity as King and Eda burst out laughing. They were amazing and impressed by how loud a rich girl could burp before they fell to the floor while still laughing.

Amity was embarrassed by what she did, never been so uncouth before in her life until but Luz put a hand on Amity's shoulder to calm her down.

"Hey, it's alright. Believe it or not, that's a natural reaction with first time soda drinkers." Luz said as she smiled at Amity.

"You're not kidding, kid! That was the greatest belch I've ever heard!" Eda said as she got up from the floor, turning to Amity. "I didn't know you had it in you."

"Eda! Everyone has their moments!" Luz said as she stood up.

"Calm down, kid. I'm not insulting her." Eda said with a wave of the hand, reaching to finish her own soda as King finally got his own open.

As her teacher and small demon friend, Luz picked up her remaining homework and motion for Amity to follow her.

"Come on, we can talk more in my room." Luz said as Amity nodded and got up, following Luz.

The walk was quick and easy to find before Luz opened the door, letting Amity go in first before she shut the door behind her. As she did, Amity took the time to look around the room a bit and could guess it's decoration was mostly Luz's doing.

'Strange. It's small and sort of messy but...it feels like home.' Amity thought with some jealousy, wondering how the room of her friend could feel more comfortable than her own.

"Hey." Luz said as she got Amity's attention. "So about your past, are you sure you can't remember anything important?"

"No, at least not that I know of." Amity said as they sat on Luz's sleeping back, remembering what she could about her past, her life with her siblings and her strangely cold, judgmental parents.

All her life, they had been distant towards her. Comparing her to her siblings, saying things that made her sad at how no matter what she achieved, it wasn't good enough. One of the top students at Hexside, becoming an apprentice to the head of the Emperor's Coven, studying harder than her trouble making older siblings and yet, the looks their eyes never matched the "compliments" on her achievements.

Seeing Amity's troubled face, made worse by the bags under her eyes and the redness from the lack of sleep since yesterday, Luz put an arm around Amity to comfort her and let her know she was with a caring friend. They sat in silence, enjoying each other embrace before there was a knock at the door.

'Huh?' they both thought as Luz begrudgingly let go of Amity, getting up and walking to the door of her room.

Luz opened the door, barely getting a third of the way before King suddenly squeezed through the door and landed on his belly.

"Wee!" he let out as Luz closed the door.

"King? What are you doing here?" Luz asked as he got up from his stomach.

"Don't you remember? It's time for my belly rubs. You can't do them in the morning since you have to run to Hexside, so we moved them to now." King said as it came back to Luz, she had been so upset and worried about Amity that she forgot.

"Oh yeah, sorry King." Luz said as she picked him up, giving him his belly rubs as she walked back to Amity and sitting down as King moaned from the rubs while kicking his leg out. "Aw, aren't you a little silly?"

As King just moaned from the belly rub, Luz saw that Amity was looking at him with curiosity and a bit of gaga at how cute he was.

"Hey, Amity." Luz said, bringing Amity out of her gaga. "Do you wanna try?"

Luz held King out to amity, making the little demon wonder why the rubs stopped.

"Wee?!" he let out as Amity nodded to Luz.

"S-Sure. I guess I could try." Amity said as she gently reached out and put a hand on his belly, rubbing his stomach in small, soft circles.

"Hey! Get your hands of-" King tried to argue before he slowly began to enjoy it, his tailing wagging slowly and getting faster. "Eh, faster. Faster! A bit slower, bit more fast! Oh, that's it!"

King's directions made the belly rub just perfect as he felt like butter in her hands, slowly dozing before fully falling asleep in Amity's arms. This surprised Luz as he belly rubs never got King to fall asleep like this.

"How did you do that?"Luz asked Amity as she pulled her hand back.

"Personally, I have no clue. I just did the same thing I did when I was 7, I got lose in the woods on a family trip and a wild creature tried attacked." Amity said as she began to cry from the memory, remembering how scared she was. "I-It had me pinned under it and it just started pushing it's belly to try to get it off me in a frantic way. Turns out, it liked it and let it's guard down enough for me to squeeze out and run."

The more she remembered, the more Amity cried silent tears, making Luz begin to cry herself before an idea came to mind.

"Hey, do you wanna hold King?" Luz asked as she presented him to her. "He makes for great comfort with his hugs."

"I...I'd like that." Amity said as she slowly took King in her arms, hugging him into her chest as he slept.

It felt so...warm. Like a little friend to have by your side when you're scared at night.

"You know, I used to have a little stuffed griffin she was little. I named him, Mr. Feather." Amity suddenly said, feeling more relaxed and calm then she had been all day. "No matter how bad I felt, just cuddling with him would always make me feel better and...it let me know that everything would be alright."

"Well, I guess he did his job." Luz said with a giggle, one that felt like a smooth melody to Amity's ears and made finally made her tired.

Luz was so busy giggling, she didn't notice that Amity had dosed off and plopped her head on Luz's shoulder. Luz stopped and saw her friend had finally gotten rest, smiling as she held King to her chest. She found the two of them so cute together before she herself started to get sleepy.

'Guess I can go to be early.' Luz thought as she held Amity's head to her shoulder, gently laying back on her sleeping bag before falling asleep.

But as Luz slept, she couldn't help but be happy for Amity. Her mind was still plagued by this mystery of her past but at least in this moment, she had some peace from it and was finally able to get some much needed sleep.
