Chapter 4
Amethyst flew towards the spiky green stalagmite forest. The sun was still burning her eyes, and she thought, maybe the sun will be covered there! I should set up camp under those.
Amethyst sighed as she felt a cold jet blowing in her face as she flew, so cold. Could that be wind? She asked herself. She remembered her mom came home from a trip outside once, shivering. Hematite had asked why she was cold, and her mom had replied: darling, there is something called wind. It is cold and blows in your face. It can also make it hard to fly.
Her mom was right about it being hard to fly in. She was slowed a lot by the wind, and sometimes thrown off track momentarily. When Amethyst got under the weird green things, she gasped at the sight of something she'd never seen before. Maybe it was a snake? She heard tales of snakes. Little creatures that slithered on the ground without any limbs.
She dove towards it. Maybe I can catch and eat it. She thought to herself. Her stomach rumbled. I really hope.
When she was down on the floor behind it, she crouched and tried to get as close as she could to the almost rope-like creature. When she was close enough to dive for it if it tried to slither away, she pounced.
Amethyst's talons shut around its hissing, rithing body as it tried to escape. She gritted her teeth. The snake was a slimmy pest she didn't want to eat, but it was her only possible prey, and the hunger alone drove her in ways she'd never had understood a day ago. She hadn't eaten before she'd left home. A huge mistake.
Amethyst gagged as it slid a little out of her hands, and she shut her talons around it tighter, but the snake slithered on away, hissing like it was saying haha, you can't hunt. You''ll starve in no time.
Amethyst shook her head and pictured a nice crystal. Thats what she wanted. She was vegetarian, and all she wanted was some plants or crystals. She pushes through some bushes. I'll find something. I will.

It had been an hour since the snake incident, and Amethyst had trekked deep into the huge maze of tall, wobbly -in the wind- stalactites. The purple dragon groaned. When would she open into something different. The windy, peaceful scenery had grown old after this time, and her boredom had intensified a lot. As had her worry and saddness. Each step brought her further from home.
"Forget that." She hissed to herself. ""You can't go back. Not after all that."
"Huh?" Amethyst heard behind her. "Who's there?!" It was a dragon, no doubt. But it was high pitched. Like a dragonet's voice. With her luck, it might as well be a Stonewing, but a harmless one. The kind with a parent right near.
As she got a step closer, she noticed that, yes, it was a Stonewing. She sighed inwardly. Of course. It can't happen be a lovely black Crystalwing who was supposed to be with me now.
Amethyst braced herself to run from some angry mother. But to her surprise, the area was silent.
A brown trunk stood beetween her and the voice. She took a step towards the Dragon. She dared speak. "H-hello?" She stumbled.
A little dragonet darted through bushes and away. Amethyst followed. She breathed crystal, making sure not to hurt the dragonet, but startle him into tripping. Nope, that didn't work. So she used another strategy, turning away to let the Stonewing think that she'd abandoned.
She trotted a while through the thick undergrowth she'd never really seen before. It glisttened with dew drops, and beautiful shades of green spread across her view. There were purples, blues, reds, yellows and all sorts of astonishing colours too. She gasped. All of her day, Amethyst had sulked. Never took time to benefit from the beauty under her nose. And for the first time today, she felt happy, calm and unworried.
Then, she snapped back to reality. She remembered the Stonewing, and got back to escaping the lush place. She heard a very silent sigh of relief from somewhere far behind her. It could easily have been a simple light breeze, but she had a feeling it was the little grey dragonet. Okay, turning around now. She decided.
She spun around and walked back, her talons squelching on the muddy ground, to where that strange little dragonet was supposed to be. "I...I promise I won't hurt you." Amethyst called in a soft voice.
The dragonet peeked out a little, his little eyes glistening with fear and confusion. He jerked back and flared his wings, squeaking. Then he said in a frightened dragonet voice,
"R-really?"
"Yes. I can't go back to my tribe anyway, never mind call out more dragons." She tilted her head, softening her voice a bit. "What's your name?"
"M-marble...." he raised a wing slightly over his head, as though wondering if he should hide. "You're not gonna e-eat me...right?"
Amethyst jerked her head back in surprise. "Dont you know Crystalwings are herbivores? Plus, I'd never eat a dragonet!" She lifted a talon to comfort him, but she didn't want to scare him, so she pulled it back down.
He sighed a little, brobably in relief. Then said, "my mommy told me Crystalwings stabbed us with crystals then cooked dragonets like me." He whimpered. "I want mommy! Where is she?!"
"I don't know, Marble." She murmured softly, getting closer. "But what I do know is that we're both lost and alone. How about we stick together for a while. When we find you're mommy, you can go."
Marble nodded in responce. Then he did something unexpected. He leaned into Amethyst, his warmth seeping into her. She wrapped her wings around him in a protective manner, and instantly knew she would love this youngster. I...sorta hope he doesn't find his mom. She thought. Instantly, she hated herself for thinking it.
Soon enough, Marble was snoring softly, his wings flopped out beside Amethyst and his flank rising and falling peacefully.
Amethyst carried him to a little bush. It was a pine green, and little white berries grew all over. She gently put the dragonet down on the ground and left to get some leafy, soft things to put under him and make a bed.
