Chapter 3
The Vermilion coloured dragon nodded. "I am, dead, yes." His eyes widened as several dragons turned to glare at Amethyst. They were like little daggers being pressed onto her. She hated the stares.
"What did you say?!" Garnet screeched. His eyes were wide, and he looked mad,but his voice betrayed fear instead. "Tell me what you said!"
"I-I don't k-know!" Amethyst threw her wings over her head. The sight of the angry fighting teacher was terrifying, and she wondered what she'd done wrong. What's happening!? She wailed in her head. The eyes were so painful on her scales. Scales diamond hard.
"She said-" a nurse betrayed. " 'So you're dead, and I can see you?' " she said in a mean mimicking voice.
"NO!" Garnet screeched. His rage was like fire. He muttered something, and yelled, "Amethyst! Hematite! Come with me!" When the two refused to budge, glancing worried and frightened glances to eachother, he yelled, "NOW!" so loud Amethyst could feel the vibration under her talons, and she didn't hesitate to that. Neither did Hematite.
Amethyst risked one glance back at the class, where multiple dragonets stared with different emotions such as fear, empathy, shock.
Ounce out of the class, Garnet out his wing around Amethyst and told her and her sister, "this isn't going to be easy to hear, youngsters. But you don't have that much time. Both of you must, this is life or death, you must understand, must run. Away. Far, far away." His voice shook. "The whole kingdom will be after you. If they find out I was talking to you..."
Amethyst shivered. "Okay." She whispered. She heard Hematite gasp. But she nodded. "You have to have a reason."
Hematite jumped to her feat behind Amethyst. "You've just agreed to leave everything behind! You can't, Amethyst!"
Garnet pulled a whole stalactite out of the ground. A long scroll was held under it. "Here. Don't open it till you're far away." He handed them the pouch he always had around his neck. "You'll need it more then me."
Amethyst took the pouch then the scroll. She put the scroll in the pouch and slipped it around her neck. She looked Hematite in the eyes. "Sister, we can come back if it was the wrong decision."
Hematite lowered her gaze. "Fine. But we're leaving home. Mom, dad, our hut. Jade. Everything."
I know. Amethyst thought. But I can feel it. We have to leave. Garnet's right.
Talonsteps echoed along the hallway. "Go, now!" Garnet whispered. He straightened and walked towards the sound. Amethyst threw her sister behind a stalactite and hid as well.
"I heard something." A rough voice said. Garnet's voice answered, a bit shaky. "Oh, sir. That's just my class."
"You have a very loud class." Said the dragon. Amethyst guessed he was a guard. Her heart was pounding and she shuddered violently.
"Um..." Garnet trailed off as there was a loud clank. He turned around. So did Amethyst. Another guard had came up from behind and pushed Hematite into the open. "What is this?" The second guard said in a strange accent.
Hematite screamed and leaped to her feet. She opened her mouth to spray crystals. It hit the first guard and froze him on spot.
Amethyst heard it all at once. The scream, the clatter sound of crystals hitting crystal scales. She jumped up, grabbed her sister's Wong in her teeth, and ran. Behind her the guards were screaming with frustration.
"That's the Crystalspeaker! Isn't it?!" One guard screamed.
"I'd never tell!" That was Garnet.
"Not even under the eyes of the whole tribe at you're execution?" The guard screamed.
Amethyst gasped. It was the last thing she heard. Garnet's going to die...because of me? She stopped.
"Keep moving!" Hematite screamed. She shoved her sister. "Do you want to die too? I'm thinking not, so get moving!"
Amethyst flapped her wings. She flew out under the arch of the school. She could feel Hematite behind her. "Remember that incredible speed you have when your scared? Perfect ti me to use it!" Hematite urged.
Amethyst forced her wings harder. She looked behind her to check on Hematite. She was still behind her, thank the moons. Then Amethyst noticed a patrol of guards on her tail. She looked back in front of her. A wall was looming above. She swerved around and barely missed it.
She flew straight for a while not daring to look back anymore. "Hematite?" She checked. No response. She flew down to the ground. "Hematite!?" My sister? Where is she?!
She kept yelling her sister's name, hoping she was not far. Her heart pounded and tears welled in her eyes. "No..."
"There she is!" Amethyst heard. "The little monster!" She knew they were talking about her. Very quickly, she was back in the air. She flew fast, and her tears rolled off her face miserably.
Lots of citizens yelped and scrambled out of her way as she flew by. She was panting hard, like she'd flown a marathon. But by then again, she might as well have.
Then, she spotted light ahead. Daylight. It was daylight. She was suddenly flying faster. "I must escape!" She thought. "For Hematite. She will not be captured for nothing!"
She beat her wings harder and harder until she felt she had never flown so fast. The guards must have thought that too, because when she stopped in the air to see if they were still following, there was no one on her tail. Thank the Crystals. Amethyst sighed in relief.
She flew out of a small hole that led to...outside. The place Amethyst had never been. "Wow!" She gasped as she saw a huge blue sheat spread over a bunch of tall green stalactites. A few black dragon-like things were flying through the sky. They were much, much, much smaller and looked sort of soft. Like the feathers her bed was made of. Yes! That was, must be, a bird! A pang hit her heart as she realized she'd never get to spend this moment with her family.
She flapped her wings as she hovered in the air. I can't believe there is this much more out in the world. Amethyst thought. It was astonishing, really. How could anything like this be made? It really was a good question.
A chill swept through the air, pushing Amethyst to the wet floor. She landed softly. There was a short green plant that spread all over the ground. She crouched down and poked one little green strand with a claw. it shivered.
Amethyst got up and turned around to see the sun. She had never seen it before, and so desperately wanted a glimpse. She spotted it, and amediatly had to shut her eyes in pain. It's too bright! How can any thing be so bright?! She howled in her mind. Amethyst covered her eyes with a talon.
"I'm gonna go see those big green stalactites, ya coming?" Asked Amethyst. She strodded forwards a few steps then stopped dead in her tracks. A striking sadness hit her as she realized once again that no one, not Hematite, not her parents, not Jade, were with her. She was alone.
