Chapter 2
Why? Why do I have to be the most self conscious dragon in Prior? Amethyst thought harshly. I'm such a failure. I knew the answer too! I could have just said it.
She allowed down the school's hallway, her eyes closed to keep tears from falling. I'm so emotional too. Everyone hates me. How could Jade like me? I bet she's just pretending.
And that did it. Through her shut eyes she started sobbing, a waterfall of crystal water. To avoid being seen by all screaming eyes, she ran as far down the hallway she could. Then when she finally opend her eyes and saw she had made it to the forbidden classroom.
Now Amethyst could see why it was forbidden. A large opening to the real world stood before her. Sunshine flowed through and she saw real light, bright light, for the first time.
Tentitavely she took a couple steps towards the door. Maybe...maybe I can escape my fears...of other dragons. It would take nothing but a couple wingbeats to get out of there, out of the treacherous world of judgmental dragons. She beat her wings experimently, still on the floor, so tempted, so ready...
"Wait!" Amethyst spun around, sure she'd see Hematite or Jade stopping her run from the judging world.
But it wasn't Hematite, and it wasn't Jade. "Citrine...?" Amethyst said slowly. Huh? What does this weird dragon want with me?
"I knew from the second I saw you, that you were"-the next word stunned Amethyst so much she stumbled back-"special."
Me?! Special?! Amethyst's mind yelped. You've got the wrong dragon, sorry, She nearly said out loud. I'm not special, I'm just one lone failure, eager to please people when I never will.
"You are special." Citrine insisted. "I promise."
Amethyst just stood there, speachless, as she took in Citrine's words. I mean, surely Citrine was bluffing. Trying to fool the one little weakling. And why should she take a stranger's word?
"I don't have time." Citrine's voice was urgent now. "They're calling me back."
"Huh?" Was all Amethyst could say as the orangy dragon started to fade. Fade. A dragon was literally fading before Amethyst's eyes.
Amethyst blinks a couple times, shocking radiating through her. Did I just kill Citrine?
No, Amethyst. Amethyst jumped as Citrine's voice answered her, but Citrine was no longer visible anywhere.
"Amethyst!" Jade cried out of nowhere. "Are you okay? You poor thing!" Amethyst closed her eyes and nodded, but inside she wasn't okay. "Oh, Painite will pay." Jade added in a low growl.
"You...you don't need to fight for me." Amethyst got up and took wobbly steps down the stone hallway and back to class where all the dragonets would mock her for her eternal fright of dragons.
"UM! Missy, if you think I'm not gonna stand up for my best friend then you clearly don't know me!" Jade roared loyally, bounding up to Amethyst's side. She put her green wings around Amethyst and glared her in the eye. "I know you're strong. I know you have confidence inside you. You just have to believe in yourself."
Amethyst ducked away shyly. "No. No, Jade. I've tried. I'm just that one self conscious cow with no confidence." She really had no chance. I mean, she'd tried to answer one little question and completely snapped like a twig under the gazes.
"You are so hard too deal with!" The pretty green female spat a burst of crystal liquid. It hardened mid flight and landed with a clink on the stone tunnel floor.
Why do you stay friends with me? Amethyst shook her head slightly. You're so kind, and undeserving of me. You need someone better.
"You're coming back to class with me now." Amethyst felt herself being pushed by Jade towards the room she learned in. Then she wondered why Hematite hadn't come get her too. She sighed.
As they got closer, Amethyst heard the fighting teacher, Garnet, saying, "You have to time you're blast perfectly. A good opponent will be ready for you're blast." Amethyst loved fighting class. The thrill of fighting always seemed to radiate through her blood. A boiling sensation of instinct. At least the teacher was a different one then before.
"You're favorite class, Amethyst. Surely you don't want to miss it!"
Jade nudged Amethyst into the classroom, where, to Amethyst's big surprise, no one turned to mock the purple mess. That's just what you are. A mess. She looked around, her scared mind wondering if there was such thing as a mind reading dragon. Nah. My thoughts are safe... But what about when Citrine answered my mind about killing her?
She shook the thoughts away and hesitantly walked over to Garnet. "W-who c-could I practice w-with?" She stuttered, pulling one wing out to hide her face.
Garnet lifted a talon to pull her fragile purple wing away. "You can train with..." he beckoned to a blue female practicing her moves throughout the air."with Sapphire."
Sapphire flew across the room to meet the teacher, not even noticing Amethyst. "Yes?"
The teacher opened his red wings quickly as a student across the room yelped loudly. "Train with Amethyst!" He ordered quickly before flying to see the dragonet.
"Let's go see what's happened, we can train after." Sapphire said with a meschevious smirk. She flew over, her head brushing the top of the cave room slightly.
Amethyst shrugged. I think we should train but whatever. She tucked her wings away and walked to where a bunch of dragons had gathered around a diamond coloured dragonet. The dragon was shrieking as blood rushed out through a large cut in their neck.
"How did this happen?" Garnet said before yelling, "NURSES!"
A glittering blue dragon and a teal dragon ran into the class. Seeing the dragonet, they looked at eachother and exchanged worried glances. Amethyst, being at the back of the pack of dragons, heard the teal one mutter, "he's loosing too much blood..."
The glittering one pushed through the crowd. "Give him some space!" She snapped. Everyone be backed up at the harsh order.
"Cobweb." The teal one said dryly. It wasn't in an ordering tone, but it was clearly an order. A few dragons scattered around, looking for cobweb. When there was enough, the teal nurse took it and chucked it to the blue one, who amediatly placed it on the cut. By then, the poor dragonet had passed out, and an eerie, tense silence had took over, all the students glancing around in awkwardness.
Amethyst then realised something she hadnt really before. Where's Hematite? She thought. She didn't seem to be anywhere in the class, as Hematite's dark scales stood out against the other bright colours.
Amethyst flew out of the classroom to look for her kind, yet mysterious sister. "Hematite?" She murmured. Then again, a little louder. "Hematite?"
She could hear sighs and occasional yelps behind her, but she was so intrigued by Hematite's sudden disapearence that she ignored them.
Soon, she found a shivering and gasping Hematite behind a huge glimmering stalactite. "No...I- sister?!" Hematite yelped as Amethyst's shadow cast over the stricken dragonet.
"What's wrong?" Amethyst murmured in a soft comforting voice. She took a couple steps towards her sister, her claws scratching the cold, rough stone ground.
"I- it's me!!" Hematite spun towards Amethyst, her eyes filled with tears that had never rolled off the brave sister's face. She leaned into her sister, and then started mercilessly sobbing endlessly. Amethyst could hear her cry echo through the hallway. It was a thing never heard by any ears, Hematite's sobbing.
"What? You can tell me." Amethyst murmured. She deathly afraic of the answer, but to support her dear sibling, she would bear the weight.
The sister's face was a horrible sight. Tears welled in her eyes, and rolled across her scales. A sorrow so dark was hidden in her depths. It hurt Anethyst. It hurt like a blade.
"I murdered him! I murdered Diamond!" Diamond, that must have been the injured dragonet's name. Hematite whent on. "I was training wi-with him. I thought he would duck, but h-he let m-me get him. I struck too hard. Amethyst, I killed him!"
Amethyst noticed, right then, a glint in the dark dragons scales. It said there was more emotion then just the realization she'd killed someone. She'd killed someone special to her. Does- did -Hematite love Diamond?
"Wait...you talk as though he's already.... You know he's still alive? You have a chance." Amethyst said. "He's not dead. Go tell him. I know you know what I mean." She nudged her sister gently.
Hematite flinched. "You can tell." The way she said was not a question. "But how do you love someone... who almost, and maybe did, kill you?" Hematite didn't wait for an answer. She got up and sprinted towards the class.
Go get him, sis. Thought Amethyst. She thought about all the times she'd caught the black beauty staring away... she'd thought into nowhere. But clearly, there had always been someone that caught Hematite's eye. I hope he lives, because Hematite will be shattered if he dies.
Amethyst walked towards where Hematite had disappeared, her tail making quiet swishing sounds as it dragged out behind her.
Poor sis...I hope he lives. She thought.
She immersed into the cave, where she saw a ghostly figure flying around. It was so light, almost invisible, but there.Amethyst gasped.
Then another figure appeared. But this one looked like a normal dragon. The only problem was it had came through the ceiling. "Intrigued? Do not worry. He hasn't joined us yet." The Crystalwing's face darkened. "He will soon though."
Amethyst shook her head. "So...y-you're dead..." She was shaking. "And I can see you?"
