On EARTH-65, the vigilante known to the public as MANTIS begins her senior year of high school at MIDTOWN HIGH under her civilian identity SPENCER SATO. Returning to the mediocrity of teenage life after a summer of violent crimefighting, Spencer finds it difficult to balance her personal responsibilities with her identity as Mantis. It doesn't help that the pop punk band Spencer played bass for, MURDER FACE, is thinking of getting back together—after their split following Spencer's breakup with lead singer MJ WATSON.

It also doesn't help that GWEN STACY—Spencer's best friend and, arguably, the main reason why she and MJ broke up—is having problems with her longtime boyfriend PETER PARKER, giving Spencer the opportunity she's been waiting for to show Gwen that they belong together.

After spending the better part of his teenage years studying abroad, NORMAN OSBORN's estranged son HARRY begins at Midtown High. He swiftly forges friendships with Peter, Gwen and Spencer—friendships that secure Peter and Gwen lucrative internships at his father's company, OSCORP, just in time for the unveiling of its top-secret project: genetically-modified spiders.

Meanwhile, Spencer's father, the supervillain known as THE HUNTSMAN, watches—and waits.
