Chicago Is So Two Years Ago
I waited for the guys in the airport, holding up giant pictures of their heads. I saw Andy, Pete, and Joe moving through the crowd and held up my signs higher, almost dropping Pete as I tried to balance the four of them in my two hands.
Pete-the real one-ran up to me, "Hi, Pete-" I began, thinking that he was coming towards me. Instead, he gave the sign with his face a big, exaggerated kiss. When he pulled away, he smiled at me.
"Sorry," he said, pretending to wipe away a tear, "It's just so beautiful."
I rolled my eyes and hugged the three of them. "Where's Patrick?" I asked.
Andy pointed behind me at the same time I felt a hand start tickling my neck. "Hey!" I complained, writhing wildly, "Stop!"
Patrick did, lifting me from the ground in a big hug. I hugged him back gladly, kissing his cheek. "Hey, Patrick."
"Did you miss me?" He asked, setting me down.
"Oh, no." I answered sarcastically, "Not the slightest. I forgot your name until Pete reminded me."
Pete rolled his eyes, "It's not like you won't remember it as soon as you listen to any song on your IPod."
We made our way to my car, the guys sharing stories. "And then," Patrick was saying, laughing, "He asked me to sign peace pipe. How crazy is that?"
"You think that's strange?" Andy challenged, "One girl had me sign her forehead, and when her mom tried to wipe it off-no joke-the girl hissed at her."
We all shared a laugh and climbed into the car, Patrick and I in the back, Andy in the middle with Pete, and Joe driving. While the other guys were distracted, Patrick turned to me. "Did you find what you were looking for?" He asked.
"Yes and no. More and less." I answered cryptically.
"Um...what?" Patrick was confused. I filled him in on everything that had happened, besides the fainting part. I had felt fine since then.
"That makes more sense. So, have you ever met this soldier guy before?"
I shook my head, "No. I don't think so, at least. Maybe when I was younger. Nobody really leaves my town."
"Nobody except for you, you mean."
"I'm the rare exception." I joked.
"Always. Are you sure you're alright, though?"
I leaned my head on his shoulder. "Maybe not now, but I will be." I said. Patrick put his arms around me and squeezed me to him.
"Hey, lovebirds!" Pete turned around and saw us sitting together, "Not in the car!"
"It's my car." I reminded him.
"PDA, though. Not okay." Pete waved a finger at us.
I shared an exasperated look with Patrick and sat up. "Whatever," I sighed. Pete turned back around to talk to Andy, and I let Patrick slip his hand over mine.
