character interview

welcome back!

today joining us in my Writer Room is:

Grayson Everett

You might know Grayson from being the starting wide-receiver for the OSU football team. Or perhaps for his acclaimed musical talents. You might even remember him for his obsession with the one and only Wednesday Elez. Regardless, he's here with us today - ready to answer most of your submitted questions!

Question No. 1: How whipped are you?

Oh, I'm as fucking whipped as a guy can get. And I have absolutely no problem unapologetically admitting that, either. Why would I be ashamed of doing anything for the people who mean the most to me? Nessa means everything, and I'd tell that to anyone who asks. Strangers, teammates, roommates—you name it, and I'll tell them I'm a whipped man.

Question No. 2: Have you ever accidentally ripped Nessa's tights? And if yes, how mad was she?

I'm going to tell you something right now: I don't usually do things on accident. If I rip Nessa's tights, it's because I wanted to rip Nessa's tights. Has that happened? Absolutely. Does she get mad? Absolutely. That is, if you consider her yelling at me and then jumping me two seconds later as mad. I like to think of it as our own kind of foreplay, but that's just me.

Question No. 3: What's your favorite thing about Nessa? Least favorite?

My favorite thing about Nessa is how fiercely protective she is about the people she cares for. It was part of the reason that it took me so long to get through to her, but it was also part of the reason that I fell so hard once I did. She has a fiery heart, and goddamn, I'm burning.

Also the skirts. I love the skirts.

My least favorite thing? Probably that she struggles to see herself how I see her. That she has to work so much harder to have confidence in herself even though she has it in everyone else.

And also that she hasn't completely thrown away all her pants.

Question No. 4: Do you have a fetish for any other instruments or is it just the piano?

The piano is honestly where it's at. I don't see any other instruments really...working. But that doesn't mean that I don't put my expertise with those instruments to good use. All that practice with double-tonguing and fingering...well, let's just say that it doesn't hurt to know how to follow someone else's lead and hit just the right things at the right time. Or to know how to use a little bit of vibration in a big way.

Question No. 5: Where is your biological dad?

I actually don't know my biological dad. He was a donor, and while my moms know who he is—they reached out to him after learning about my congenital heart defect—I've decided to leave that door closed. Doubtless he's a handsome motherfucker, though. Wouldn't you say?

Question No. 6: How do you stay so confident and sure all the time? You always know what you want.

Oddly enough, I think my confidence came from having that shitty heart. I learned when I was still pretty young that life was special, not to be taken for granted. It could kick you while you were already down, too, and I figured that was enough; I didn't also need to beat myself up or become smaller than I really was. If I was going to live, I wanted to live unapologetically. To my fullest. That doesn't mean that I don't occasionally have doubts. But I try to face them head-on.

Question No. 7: Do you see Wednesday caring for your kids? How many do you want?

God, I want as many kids as Nessa will let me have. I can absolutely see her as a mom. She'll be strong and protective, but I can also see our kids bringing out that soft side in her. I can't wait for her to teach them how to sing while I teach them how to play.

Question No. 8: Favorite day of the week?

This is the best question. My favorite day of the week is Wednesday, of course. Nessa once said it's the day of the week for dentist appointments, so I've been making it caramel macchiato day ever since. I don't think she's gotten the connection yet, but she appreciates the cup of coffee either way.

Question No. 9: What happened with Brody? Do you still talk to him?

Brody and I definitely grew apart after what happened freshman year. He needed some time, I think, to heal from the pain and turmoil that Bren's dad put him through. He didn't come back to OSU. I honestly think he was too ashamed to. But after a few months of giving him space, I reached back out. We cleared the air, but I don't know if it will ever be the same again. I hope that he can find a way past everything that happened, and I told him I'd be around if he ever needed me or decided to come back to campus.

Question No. 10: What's it like being so good with your hands?

I can do a lot of things with my hands. Things with footballs. Things with piano keys. Things with guitar strings. But my very favorite things to do with my hands include Nessa Elez. So I'd say that it's all around very satisfying.

Question No. 11: What would you do if you had to pick between music and football?

That's a tough question. For right now, I'd pick football. It's a passion and a hobby that already has a clock on it; I won't be able to play forever. Hell, I'll probably only be able to play for the next ten or so years. Music, on the other hand, is a lifelong joy. I'll be able to play the piano until I'm old and gray. It's something that I can pick back up once my days on the field end. I'll just need to rely on a little muscle memory. Luckily, I have a decent amount of that.

Question No. 11: How do you feel about other guys talking to Nessa?

Depends on the guy. Take Beau, for example. She lives with the dude, and I'm sure they talk all the time. I could care less about it, too. Julian? Also totally fine. Bren? Ehh...

Just kidding. He's all good, too.

In all seriousness, I don't have a problem with other guys talking to Nessa as long as they're not bothering her. Like Jack or Jasper or that asshole in the Kylo Ren t-shirt. In that case, I'll gladly kick their ass. Or sit back and watch Nessa do it.

Question No. 12: What's your wildest fantasy with Nessa?

My wildest fantasy? Damn, I feel like I've already lived out my favorite fantasy. Nessa + a piano + me? Ain't nothing better. Except maybe the addition of tights. Fuck, those tights.

I'd love to take her back to that hotel in Monterey, though. Just to revisit it. To do all the things I wanted to do that night when I was still too scared that she'd vanish on me if I pushed her too far. I want to sneak her back into the team locker room, too. I definitely think about that all the goddamn time, replaying that night in the showers and imagining all the things I could have done if she would have let me touch her. If I'd dared to touch her.

See, the thing about Nessa is that she is wild. And she is a living fantasy. And so no matter what, I'm one lucky man.

Thanks for checking out Grayson's interview. <3
