30. Ethan.

So... It ended before it really began.

Kidding. It didn't end, at the time I wasn't sure what the hell to think, but it felt like I had lost him somewhere in the deep darkness and I didn't know how to pull him out.

One thing I can tell you is that I was tired and I didn't know why. I didn't do anything that would have made me feel like that, but I was exhausted. Both mentally and physically.

The moment I opened the door to enter my house, mom came rushing towards me. "Honey, Amelia? Oh God, I was calling your phone a hundred times. Why were you not picking? I was so worried. I almost called the poli- Amelia, what's wrong?"

The only reason she could have stopped short like that from the barrage of questions was to the account of my face. I wasn't crying or anything like that, but I imagine I must have looked like a zombie with no sense of direction.

So, there she stood, her eyes wide darting all over my face in concern. Her stance rigid, like she wasn't sure whether to approach me fully just yet, or to stand where she was, but seeing her, she felt like a strength I needed and without any warning, I ran to her and flung my arms around her torso.

"Oh, mom."

"Honey, what's wrong?"

Everything. Everything was wrong, and I didn't know where to start. I knew I wanted to tell her. I needed her advice.

"I have so much to tell you, mom."

She ran her right hand behind my back over and over, soothing me.

"Okay, just come sit down with me, yeah? Then you can tell me everything."

She took my hand and led me to sit on the couch in our living room before she propped herself next to me.

"What's going on, baby?" She asked and took both my hands on hers.

I slumped against the couch before I let go of mom and ran my hands over my face. I was still not sure where to start. A lot happened in a span of a few hours and everything seemed to be upside down.

And then I got it.

"I have a boyfriend." I peeked at her through my lashes.

The mom that I knew would have lit up like a Christmas tree upon hearing the news she always wanted to know about. But maybe the way I said it or something on my face got her to sit still.

"And is this boyfriend the reason you came home like this?"

I took a deep breath to prepare myself for the long story I was gonna tell her, but the several different changes in her facial expressions got me to stare at her.

The first expression was pretty basic I would say. She raised eyebrows. But the next moment that was replaced by the furrowing of her forehead, followed by the widening of her eyes and the last one was a flicker of horror on her eyes.

"Oh, my God." She raised both her arms and placed them against her mouth. "Oh-My-God. No. Amelia, did he do something to you? Please tell me he didn't do anything bad to you."

What?

For a moment I was confused about why she was panicking. I hadn't told her anything to panic about. But when I finally understood what must be going through her mind, I reached out and took her hands on mine just like she had done for me a few minutes ago.

"Mom, no. God, no," I said, making sure to look her straight into her eyes for emphasis. "He didn't do anything like that. Logan is great. It's nothing like what you think, I promise."

"Thank God." She visibly relaxed. "I thought something bad happened to you."

Well, a lot has happened between Logan and me, but I wouldn't call them bad.

"So, then what happened?" Her eyes roamed around my body. "I don't see anything wrong with you physically."

"There is nothing wrong with me physically," I said and took a deep breath. "I'm not even sure I should call it emotionally. I'm just really confused, that's all."

"You wanna tell me about it?"

"I was at Logan's house earlier to...um." I racked my brains for a best lie. "Get my textbooks."

Mom raised one eyebrow.

I cleared my throat.

I sucked. If that was the best lie, I sucked big time. Seriously, what kind of a lie was that?

"Anyway." I sat up straighter and continued. "Everything was fine until this guy showed up whom I found out later that he was Logan's Uncle, and he was there to demand money from Logan." I took a deep breath and decided to shorten the story. "The point is, something wasn't right with the guy. I think he was drunk or something, and he was cursing and shouting a lot at Logan, and that really upset him."

"I wanted to be there for him. I tried to be there for him, but Logan didn't want it. He told me to leave. I don't understand. It was just today when we agreed to be dating and just like that; I feel like everything went to hell after his uncle showed up."

Moms face morphed into sympathy as she pulled me closer to her.

"Why would he tell me to leave, mom? I thought now that we are together, he would let me help him. Isn't that how it works? When you are in a relationship with someone, isn't that how it's supposed to be? To help each other?"

She let out a deep breath before she fully engulfed me in her arms.

"Oh, my baby girl." She kissed me on the side of my head. "You know? It's just not that simple. Sometimes, it's not easy for people to let other people in. I think he just needs some time, especially if you two just started dating."

"Time? I can do that. I can give him time."

"Yes, I think that's all he needs, and you need to be patient. If he likes you, I'm sure he'll come around and tell you everything."

I bobbed my head, agreeing with her. "You're right. You're absolutely right. Thanks, mom," I said and started to move away from her embrace.

"Not so fast young lady, I wanna know everything about this Logan boy I keep hearing about," she said. I chuckled and shook my head before I told her everything about the boy who has stolen my heart.

*****

I didn't hear from Logan the whole night.

When I woke up, it was already bright outside and the warm sun was already peeking through my curtains. With a heavy heart, I gathered my tired limbs and sat on the edge of my bed with my legs dangling to the floor. I understood mom yesterday, I wanted to give him time to process his issues, but still, I couldn't help but hoped he could have called me or texted me, at least.

Funny the way things seemed to be between the two of us. The situation with us was almost the same last weekend. When I was waiting for his to text or call.

I was still Lazing about on the edge of my bed when my phone rang on my bedside table. I shot out of bed like a bullet to try and reach it before it went off.

"Hello, Logan?"

"Err, Amelia, is that you?"

Not Logan then. I was so deep into hoping he would call that I haven't even stopped to look at the caller Id. I pull the phone away from my ear and inspected the screen. The number was totally new.

"Hello, yes this is her, who is this?"

"Amelia, it's me, Ethan. How are you?"

Ethan.

"Oh, Ethan. Hi, um, I'm okay. Is this a new number? I didn't recognize it."

"Yeah, it is. I lost my phone and Lost all my contacts, I had to get yours through my dad, who got it from your dad. Anyway, Listen, I'm in town, and I was hoping to see you. Maybe we can have that coffee we wanted to have?"

The nervousness in his voice was something I heard clearly.

"Yeah sure, I'm not doing anything today."

"Really? Great, that is great. Um, I'll text you the address. Can we meet say, in forty minutes? Is that okay with you?"

"Yeah, sounds good. See you there."

"See you soon, Amelia."

Precisely forty-five minutes later, I parked my car outside a coffee shop about twenty-five minutes away from my house. I looked at the building in front of me in awe.

The entire coffee shop was a big tinted-glass, oval-shaped building. I didn't even know this place existed.

As soon as Ethan had put the phone down earlier, I jumped into action. Frantically getting ready and going over my clothes to make sure I look presentable. I wasn't necessarily trying to impress him or anything like that, but I think I have mentioned somewhere before since I started telling you this story, both the first time and the second time I met Ethan, he struck me as a well put together guy. His good looks were just an added bonus. So, I wanted to look at least half as decent.

In the end, I came up with a reddish strapless floral-print dress that reached just above my knees and black strap sandals. I finished with a black jacket to cover my shoulders and put my hair on a nice high ponytail.

When I opened the big glass entrance door, my jaw almost hit the ground. One word I would give the insides of that coffee shop. Classy! I looked around the vast area. From it's modern-looking decoration to the people occupying the seats. Then I looked down at myself and thanked God I took the time to put effort into my look.

"Excuse me!"

A girls' voice accompanied by a tap on my shoulder startled me back from my ogling the area. A young blond girl, I'd probably say the same age as I was stood beside me with a toothy smile on her lips.

"Um, yes?" I returned her smile.

"Hi, a gentleman sitting over there said he's expecting you."

She pointed her finger on the opposite side of the shop. I craned my neck, following where she pointed and saw Ethan waving his hand.

"Thank you," I said to the girl before I walked towards Ethan.

Ethan granted me the whitest smile he's ever awarded me with as soon as I approached him. He stood up from his chair and pulled me into a hug without any warning. "Amelia, you have no idea how good it is to finally see you again," he said on top of my head.

"Well, I can certainly see just how good from the bone-crushing hug," I joked. "Good to see you too, Ethan."

He chuckled before he let me go and scratch the side of his neck. We stood like that smiling at each other before Ethan decided to break the moment by pulling out a chair for me to sit.

"Come on, have a seat."

I didn't. Not straight away anyway. I took a second to appreciate just how good Ethan looked.

Without any shame, my eyes traveled from his hair that was perfectly combed from the roots and pulled backward at the ends. Much different from the tousled look Logan's hair seems to permanently be. To his brown leather jacket, black tee and a pair of blue jeans. And finally, the black sneakers with a thin white sole on his feet.

Even I had to admit he looked dashing. If you ask me to describe what I thought of him at that moment? I would say he looked like those clean-cut, very well polished male models on a front page of a fashion magazine.

I blushed when my eyes trailed back up only to be met with his amused ones. He definitely caught me checking him out and most probably loved the fact.

"Um, sorry." My blush deepened as I took steps to the chair he was still holding out for me.

Just like the day I met him at his house, he made sure I was seated adequately before walking around to sit on his chair.

Sorry about this chapter folks.

I feel like I slacked a little bit in editing it and sending it out into the world. I didn't give this chapter the passion it deserved and maybe one day I'll come around to edit it.
