26. Circus Freaks.

I woke up a new woman!

For the past few days, I think I had my head shoved far up my derrière I started having a crowded mind. But for the first time, I felt like I could see clearly again. I woke up looking forward to going to school. Logan and I were on good terms. No--excellent terms.

We almost kissed, again, and I couldn't wait for the talk we would have.

Whatever was going on between us, I wanted more of it. I wanted to put a name to it. I wanted our footing to match. I wanted clarification for the sake of both of us.

"You're in good spirit this morning." Mom raised her eyebrow and took a sip of her coffee. "Had a good sleep?"

"Hey, mom. Actually, yeah. I had a good sleep. But also, I'm in a good mood because I'm looking forward to school, that's all."

"Really? So, the kid who was here a few nights ago, Logan, was it? I'm assuming, it's the same Logan that got you asking me those questions the other day. Isn't he?"

I blushed; I had forgotten that little fact about the two of them.

"Yeah, um, that's him." Ahem, I cleared my throat. "What did he say to you anyway?"

Her lips pulled aside in a knowing smile. "Nothing much." She raised her coffee cup and took another sip. When she was done, she looked at me, and I knew she had more to say if the beam in her eyes were any indication.

"So, I'm guessing he's the reason you are in this mood? "

"Jesus, mom." I shook my head. "I think so, yeah, but I'll tell you later when I am sure of what's going on with us. But until then, I gotta go, or I'm gonna be late."

I kissed her on the head then headed out into my car, ready for the day ahead.

"Have you seen Logan today?" I asked Suzy the moment I saw her in the schools' hallway.

"Hello to you too, Amelia. I'm fine, thank you, how are you? Wait whenever you are this giddy like a schoolgirl, it usually means that you are in a good mood or you are interested in some information. Does this mean that you and Logan are in the okay term?"

Okay was the lightest word she could have used.

I blushed.

"Well, we kinda talked yesterday. I went to his house in the evening. Oh, you are not going to believe what happened. Wow, it was such a drama when I got there, I'm telling you it..."

"Well, well, well. If it isn't Amelia, the slut!"

I flinched.

See, I knew she was inevitable; I knew that for a fact. I knew I would run into her sooner or later, but I was hoping it would have been later. I was hoping it would have been somewhere private. Somewhere away from the prying eyes of students. And I so much hoped, just like that moment, I wouldn't have been alone. Charlotte was never alone. Being alone one on one with her would have been the biggest mistake.

This was the girl who loved to play it rough.

Suzy stiffened before she and I slowly turned around only to come face to face with the brazing eyes of Charlotte and the full force of her puppy followers.

I took a deep breath, bracing myself for another drama coming my way. And boy, drama it was.

"Snatched any other girl's boyfriend lately, or just mine for now?"

Charlotte was there for a fight, and the moment she raised her hands and fiercely crossed them against her full-on display cleavage with no care in the word, I knew she was waiting for that moment, and what did I do in return? Like a gullible little girl who knew she was backed to a corner with no hope of escaping, I opened my mouth and spoke pretty stupidly.

"What do you want, Charlotte? Just leave me alone, okay?"

Things pretty much escalated from there.

Charlotte sneered and took one, big, scary step towards me. Suzy, God brace her, I hadn't known at the time she was ready for Charlotte, took her own step in front of me like a shield.

"Get lost, Charlotte," she hissed. The hatred in her voice, if I didn't know any better, I'd think it was caused by something much deeper. Something I wasn't aware of. By the way just for clarification, it totally was, but that's a story for another day. I didn't even know about that myself until much, much later. "I swear to God, I don't care how many people are watching or how many friends you got behind you, you take another step, and I'm gonna fuck you up. So, I suggest you leave Amelia alone, turn around, and go back to whatever stone you crawled out from."

My best friend went from One to Ten in a matter of seconds.

"Look, it's not my fault you and Logan are not together, okay? If you have a problem, just talk to him," I said from behind Suzy's shoulder.

When her eyes landed back to mine, I wanted to take a step back from the raw hatred in them, and when she took another step towards me, let's just say I was glad Suzy was already in front of me.

"Oh, you think it would be that easy? To just leave you alone to be happy with him? Think again, honey. He is mine. Always has been, always will be. Logan and I are not done yet, period!"

"I said, BACK THE FUCK UP!" Suzy roared. This time, she wasn't keen on using only words. This time, she raised her hands and pushed on Charlotte's chest to get her to back up.

Big-freaking-mistake. All hell broke loose.

"Keep your hands off of me, you freak!" Charlotte screamed. Her voice, maybe a tad bit louder than necessary. But this was Charlotte. She lived for drama. She knew no matter what, she would come on top. "How dare you put your hands on me?"

My eyes widen as I looked around. Like a pack of hungry hyenas' students were already super interested in this.

The fact that Suzy and Charlotte were on each other's faces only added to their interests. This was bad, I wanted to dig a hole and disappear into it. This sort of thing was something I never, ever wanted to be involved with. I hated this, I hated drama, and I hated the fact it was happening right in the middle of the school hall with so many gossipers recording everything.

So, I tugged at Suzy's hand to try and get her attention from their standoff.

"Suzy, maybe we should just go," I whispered.

"No, we are not leaving," without breaking her apparent super important stare down, she spat. "This bitch needs to understand she can't just bully anyone she wants and get away with it."

I was about to die from nervousness because while Charlotte and Suzy might have been equal opponents at that moment, I wasn't. Not to mention the fact that her entourage was about to turn me into a pile of Ash from their hard looks.

And then, just when I thought things were about to turn to a fistfight, or hair pulling, or something, my salvation came.

"Whoa-Whoa-Whoa. What in the name of the hallway of school is happening here?"

My salvation came in the form of Leo's voice from somewhere amongst the sea of students. The sneering and the video recording halted as heads started turning, searching for the source of the voice.

They seemed to have found it since, on one particular area, the crowd parted to reveal not only Leo, but Logan and Luke standing together. Watching us. Seemingly unbothered by the sheer number of eyes watching them.

If it wasn't for the fact that that whole situation was a mess, I would have taken a minute, maybe a few to appreciate how each and every one of them were striking in their own way. I would have gone so much as to entertain the fact that they all looked like Greek Gods who came down to pass judgment upon all of us mere mortals. I never actually took notice of all of them together before. But they were all absolutely gorgeous. The saying attractive attracts attractive was absolutely true. The three were most likely attracted to be friends for that. Initially, at least. I think. Whatever.

I needed to get a grip.

Logan's eyes Locked on mine first, lingering there. I could see the question in them asking if I was okay, so I nodded my head once. Seemingly satisfied with that, he looked to Suzy. I noticed Luke's eyes were already on Suzy before they freckled to mine. Finally, Logan's eyes landed on Charlotte. I swear his eyes harden a little more.

"Leo asked what is going on here?" He said but this time, his eyes solely concentrated on Charlotte. "We still didn't get any answers."

If Charlotte would have been able to sneer any more that she already had, I'm sure she would have. Her face contorted in a way that promised vengeance.

"You," she spat and took a menacing step towards his direction. Her senses must have come back and forced her to stop short before she could reach him. "How dare you even have the audacity to ask that question?"

He didn't answer. He narrowed his eye.

That was a good enough answer in my books. She must have known him enough to know she wasn't getting anything else from him.

She scoffed. Probably as a way to show she was still on top of her game. "Let's go, girls. We are done here." She motioned to her entourage. Turning her head toward me, she said only a few words that turned out to be true to her word. "this isn't over, Amelia."

The girl didn't even wait for the students to pave the way for her. One of the poor soul, too slow to move, got it the hard way when he was shoved out of the way and landed on the other poor soul next to him.

"Alright, Show is over," Luke growled. The moment he said those few words, I noticed something else about him. Luke could be frightening when he wanted to be. His stance, his narrowed, usually soft eyes, everything was different. "Get on with your lives people."

Come to think of it, even Leo, the sweet, charming, Leo looked intimidating at that moment. Three pairs of intimidating eyes, I guess, caused students to hightail it out of there like they were on fire.

Once the last of the staggering students disappeared, the boys walked closer to us. I felt like I could breathe again when it was just the five of us remaining. The eyes of everybody else was just too damn much. I closed my eyes and reached up to massage my temples.

That was a mess.

"Are you alright?" Logan's minty breath fanned my lips. Apparently, my closing the eyes was an invitation for him to walk straight to me and lowered his face just in front of mine. Even when I opened my eyes, he didn't move away. Instead, his green eyes roamed around my face before he moved in even closer. I held my breath as my eyes widen. What the...?

Just when I thought he was going to kiss me, he stepped back.

"What the hell was all that about?" Luke asked, taking turns to look at Suzy and me.

"A cat-fight," said Leo. "How the hell did we miss the beginning of it?"

"What happened?" Luke inquired.

"Yeah, Charlotte looked pissed," Leo agreed. "What got her panties in a twist?"

"She was here for Amelia," Suzy answered.

Leo looked between Suzy and me then turned his attention to Logan.

"Oh, now I get it." He smirked as he turned back to me. "So, I'm guessing she was pissed at you." He pointed his finger at me. "Because you two are... how do they say it? Dancing between the sheets now?"

"Oh my God, Leo. " While I reached up and covered my ears with both my palms, Logan only said, "Shut up, Leo."

"What? Are you guys not then?"

"Jesus Christ, no, we are not." Heat spread on my cheeks.

"Leo, shut the hell up." Luke decided to intervene. "Come on, let's go to class. Good God, you are so annoying sometimes."

He grabbed him by the elbow and dragged him away. Leo's muffled complaining could be heard all the way through the corridor until he fully disappeared around the corner.

"Amelia." Suzy turned to me. "I'm gonna see you in class, yeah? This whole Charlotte thing drained me of my moods."

I nodded. I completely agreed with her. Seems like everybody's mood soured because of her.

Except, maybe Leo's mood.

Before she could leave though, I pulled her into a hug. "Thank you for that," I whispered against her head.

"Yeah, anytime." She gave me one last squeeze before she let go and left.

It was finally down to the two of us, and I was glad for that. The problem was I'm not sure either one of us knew what to say. For a little while, we just stood there, looking at each other.

Finally, he moved. He took a step closer, reached out, and took my hand on his.

"Come on, I'll walk you to your class."

"What? No. Logan, you really don't have to do that."

This whole thing was because his psychotic ex-girlfriend didn't want to let him go, and him walking me to the class hand in hand, didn't seem like a good idea.

"Yes, I do. Now let's go."

He turned us around and started walking me towards my classroom. I knew there was no changing his mind, so I sucked in a breath and followed him.

I was embarrassed to admit, but a part of me could not stop thinking about the fact that we were holding hands in the middle of the school's hallway, and how perfect my small fingers fitted on his. How warm it was, and how I never wanted to let go.

At that moment, forget about drama and promises of oncoming vengeance.

At that moment, we were perfect.
