21. Oh, Shit. Shiiittt!

I think I liked Ethan. Don't judge. Not the way you think you perv.

I liked him in the sense that without being introduced to me by Suzy, I met somebody who was quite interesting in every sense of aspects and not to mention the fact that because of him, my Sunday went well. Happy to announce the thoughts of a certain green-eyed boy, didn't cross my mind. Well, until now that I'm talking about him. Anyway, mom's car was in the driveway along with some other vehicle that I had never seen before parked in our driveway.

Problem was, the house was quiet. Too quiet as if there was absolutely nobody inside. My brows furrowed in confusion as I walked deeper inside. Thank God a few steps later, I started hearing muffled voices.

"Mom?" I called.

No answer.

I walked further, but just before I could fully enter our living room, there, on the couch, sat mom. Her back toward me and in front of her was a man.

I blinked. See, a man sitting in front of mom was not a problem at all even though it never happened in this house before. What got me almost to want to take rapid steps backward was the fact that they were on each other's arms. Kissing.

No wonder they didn't hear me calling.

So, there I was, trying to get my eyes to stop widening and at the same time, torn between wanting to run away or just pretend like I didn't see them all together.

Here's the thing I would like to advise you. Don't walk in on your parent. Any of them. If you could avoid it, do it at all costs. It's embarrassing as hell.

Since the guy had sat facing me, he was the first one to see me. While his lips were still glued on mom's, His eyes, as if coming out of their daze recognizing there was an unwanted third party involved, they slowly widened until they reached their maximum capacity. His face went from shock to embarrassment before he put his hands against mom's shoulders and pushed to get her to stop.

It could have been the chorus of 'Ahem's' that came from him or the not so subtle, repetitive eye dashing from mom to me that got her to turn around.

"OH MY GOD, Amelia," she jumped about a thousand feet away from him.

Too late, mom.

"Amelia, honey." She pulled on her dress, trying to smooth it out. "When did you get here? I didn't know you were back?"

I waved my hand. "I'm back."

'Ahem,' the guy cleared his throat again.

"Oh, Um." Mom seemed to remember her guest was still awkwardly sitting there. "Amelia, this is Ben, a work colleague of mine."

"Err," I still had no idea what to say.

The guy, Ben. Awkwardly raised his hand to give a small wave. "Hi, Amelia. Nice to meet you."

"Um, hello. Nice to meet you too?"

I didn't mean for my greetings to sound like a question, but it did and I didn't blame myself. Even though I, as well have experienced my first kiss and knew exactly how... sweet, it can be, the guy in front of me was still a stranger.

Mom stood there, shifting her eyes between Ben and me, seemingly unsure of what to say before she slapped her hand over her forehead. "Wow this is as awkward as it gets," she said, then turned towards Ben. "I'll be right back. Amelia, can I speak to you for a minute?" Without waiting for my answer, she took my hand and dragged me to the kitchen.

"Oh my God, Amelia, honey I am so, so, sorry."

I wanted to stop her and tell her it was okay which really, after my initial shock it wasn't that bad. But I decided I might as well just enjoy the moment.

"This wasn't supposed to happen. You weren't supposed to see him-us like that."

She started pacing up and down the kitchen.

"I wanted to introduce him to you at the right time, and everything was gonna be okay, and you would have liked him..." She stopped and look at me, almost pleadingly. "I know you would have liked him, honey."

I was sure her last words weren't supposed to come out like a question, but they did. She was looking for some kind of reassurance. Anything in my face that would have indeed told her I would have liked him. I pressed my lips into a thin line. My lungs and cheeks burned from the overwhelming feeling of wanting to laugh, but I hold out for just a little longer.

"And now, this happened, and I have no idea how you feel about it." Slowly, she took steps closer. Once she stood in front of me, she raised her hand and planted her palm on my cheek. "Baby, talk to me."

I burst out laughing.

I wanted to stop laughing at some point, but the look of uncertainty mixed with confusion on her face got me to laugh even harder.

"What? Are you laughing at me?"

"No, not at you," I said. "Well, actually, I am. Mom, you should see your face."

"Wait, you are not mad?"

"No." I shook my head. "Why would I be mad? Shocked, yes, but not mad. Mom, it's okay. Really."

"Really? Are you sure?"

"Positive," I assured. "I just wished you'd have given me a heads up that he was here, that's all. I mean, that was an awkward encounter out there." I said as another bark of laughter escaped my lips.

She pulled her lips to the side. "It was, wasn't it?" We both bobbed our heads as we looked at each other before she spread her arms and engulfed me into a hug.

"I'm really sorry, honey."

"Well, tell me all about Ben, later, yeah? Now I need to go rest a little and organize some things for school tomorrow.

"Okay. Bye, honey. Talk later. I love you."

"Love you too, mom."

*****

I threw myself on top of my bed as soon as I got to my room. Taking a deep breath, I closed my eyes to rest for a while before I needed to go over my school organizer.

A vibration inside my handbag, got me to open my eyes right back up.

'It was nice meeting you today. I enjoyed every bit of it. I can't wait to see you again sometime soon. Ethan.'

Warmth spread inside my chest as a small smile spread the corners of my lips.

'Hey. Yeah, it was nice meeting you too. I just got back home, resting before I go back to school tomorrow.'

A few minutes later, I received another message from him.

'Okay. Have a nice day at school tomorrow. Goodnight, Amelia."

The barrage of questions from Suzy made me want to evaporate out of thin air. She wanted to know everything that happened between Logan and I on Friday. The problem was, I was mad at the guy. He totally disregarded the kiss. Disregarded me.

"Suzy, I just rather forget everything that happened that night."

Suzy wasn't one to pass on a 'juicy details' her word not mine. I knew my attempts at evading the topic altogether was just that, attempts, but a girl gotta try. She came around to stand right in front of me just so I couldn't escape her.

"So, what you are saying is something did happen between you and Logan that night?"

I rolled my eyes. I knew she would never drop the topic. Not if she knew it involved something that might have happened between him and me.

"You know I won't stop. Now come on, spill it."

"Well, we kissed. End of story."

It was quiet for a few seconds. When what I said started to sink in, apparently, her eyes widen. "OH MY GOD, she said. "Oh, my God, Amelia Alfred. You finally kissed somebody. That is like your first kiss, ever, and it's with Logan? Holly Shit! We have got to celebrate your first kiss. Tell me, how was it?"

"No, we don't! Suzy, calm down." I raised my hands. "Look, I just wanna forget it happened. Logan didn't text or call, or anything, so clearly, it meant nothing to him."

"Oh?" She looked puzzled for a minute. "Really? But then again, this is Logan we are talking about. Maybe he has a reason for that."

"Have you seen him today?" I asked.

"No, I haven't. But I could ask Luke?"

"What? No, don't." I widen my eyes for emphasis. "I don't want anyone else knowing about this. God forbid Charlotte to find out. Let's just go to class, yeah?"

She let out an irritated sigh. "Fine, so, what will you do when you see him?"

"You know what? He wanted to forget what happened? I want to forget it happened. So, I'll just be cool about it, and pretend it never did."

"Sounds like you got it covered, you will sit with us today, right?"

"Yeah, I will. I'm tired of sitting in a library. Plus, I didn't bring anything to eat so, yeah."

"Cool, I'll see you later then. Bye!"

*****

I made sure I was the first one sitting at our table to be able to have some sort of control over the situation. I meant it when I said I was gonna pretend I forgot the stupid kiss happened in the first.

"Amelia, you're here," said Leo as he put his plate of food down. "Wow, I feel like I haven't seen you in ages."

I heard him; I acknowledge him, but right behind him, stood Logan and when our eyes locked, I could feel all my cool, I-got-the situation-handled, flying right out the cafeteria window.

I composed myself back to my calm exterior and plastered the biggest smile on earth on my lips.

"Hey, Leo. Nice to see you too. How are you?"

"I'm good, beautiful, I'm good. How are you? You're the one whose been missing around here."

"Yeah, I've just been dealing with somethings."

Logan walked around the table and sat down right across from me, but unlike me, he didn't break the eye contact. I could still feel his eyes drilling on me.

There's truly only one way to show you are on top of the game. Face the opposition head-on. So, I turned my face towards Logan to greet him. "Hi, Logan."

"Hi, Amelia." He didn't miss a beat. Damn him.

"I see the whole band is already here," Luke said as he placed his tray on the table and sat down. Beside him, was Suzy who being the only one with a clue on what's going on, the gleam in her eyes as she looked between me and Logan was understandable.

"Yo, you guys are not going to believe the weekend I had," said Leo. "I've had this sweet, hot college student all to myself the entire weekend. Met her at a party on Friday night. Damn, she was fine."

Luke snorted. "Leo, you got a new, hot girl every weekend. Tell me something new."

Leo rolled his eyes. "You're just jealous you are not getting laid with new hotties every weekend."

Suzy pointed her fork on his face. "Leo, one more word out of you, and I'm gonna gut you alive. Right here."

"Besides, I don't need to have a new girl every weekend, Leo." While he gestured to his girlfriend, Luke's eyes flashed to me in a second too fast, before he looked back to Suzy. "I've got the whole package right here."

Nobody else seemed to have seen that. Of course, I dismissed it as nothing.

"Whatever, how was your weekend, Amelia?" Leo turned to ask me.

"It was great actually. I spent the whole weekend at Dad's. He took us to this huge mansion for a family brunch on Sunday, and I made a new friend. Ethan, the son of the owner. It was really cool."

"Jesus, you are a wimp." He shook his head. So, none of you had any fun?

"Really?" Logan narrowed his eyes as he finally opened his mouth to, I guess scrutinize me. "That's what was cool?"

I didn't like the tone of his voice. I didn't like the way he asked that question as If I didn't know the first thing about cool. In fact, I didn't want to hear anything from him right about that moment.

I ground my jaws together as I thought of a better comeback. Dammit, Nothing. "Yes," I said through my teeth instead. I'd take that over him living me dry all weekend.

Leo looked to me then to Logan. "Wow. Am I missing something here? The tension between you two is so thick I could slice it with a butter knife."

"No, you don't," both Logan and I said without breaking our eye contact. "There is no tension whatsoever." I narrowed my eyes.

"Err... Okay, if you say so."

"Can I speak with you for a minute, Amelia. In private?" Logan pointed his finger towards the exit.

If I was going to be able to keep up the 'If-you-didn't-care-about-the-kiss-then-I-didn't-either' charade. He and I alone was not a good idea.

"Can I finish my lunch first?" I asked and took a sip of my drink.

Leo spread his arms between the two of us. "I'm not crazy here, right? Could somebody please, shed some light upon the situation between you two?"

"I second that!" Luke agreed. "You two could deny all you want, but something is going on."

Silent. Not a single one of us uttered a word. It was like the five of us were in our own silent babble, protected from all the other noise outside. Luke and Leo kept on dashing their eyes between the two of us, waiting for some sort of a clue or whatever. Logan and I were engaged in some sort of a stare-down while ignoring everybody else, and Suzy, well, Suzy was having a hard time trying not to break out in a fit of laughter.

"Amelia and I kissed."

My drink flew right back out of my mouth in a choking fit. That was one way to break the silence.

"Logan! Really?" I threw my hand in the air, unbelievably.

Leo, chocked on a cough before his face contorted in amusement. "Wow, this is- wow."

Luke, I don't think I've ever seen him looking that puzzled. Like he never in a million years thought anything like that could possibly happen. "When did that happen?"

Suzy, finally getting her chance, she burst out laughing.

"Great. Just great," I hissed at Logan. "Do you wanna announce it to the whole school while you are at it?"

He narrowed his eyes but somehow managed to make it look cool.

"I'm confused," Leo said, slumping back against his chair. "If you guys kissed." He pointed his finger between the two of us. "Then, why does it seem like you're hostile towards each other? Was it that bad? Or is it something else entirely?"

"I have no idea. Ask Amelia." If my eyes would have been able to shoot fire, Logan would have been a pile of ashes. When he looked back at me, he shrugged nonchalantly. "What? I asked you to talk in private. You refused."

"It's hostile because Logan here, totally acted like a jackass. No calls, no messages." Suzy decided to be helpful and spill the beans. Problem was, I didn't want the beans to be spilled.

I threw my hands up, "Suzy! Really? You too?"

"What?" she shrugged. "Just saying."

"Dude, you didn't," Leo scolded. "Girls hate that shit. Don't you know anything?"

"Jesus." I pushed my chair back. It seemed like the kiss between me and Logan was turning into some never-ending lunch break topic slash what do, or what not to do after a kiss education from Leo. "You know what? I am out of here. Suzy, I'll see you later." I turned to Logan. "Thank you, Logan, thank you so much," I said before I turned around and stormed out of the cafeteria.

I should have known better than to think he would sit still.
