Bob Loblaw Law Offices

Slack Instant chat

Daniels: Hey so I wanted to talk to you about Gideon. You're ghosting him now?

Faith: I'm not ghosting him.. I'm just trying to figure things out. And he hasn't exactly reached out either.

Daniels: Tell him and get it figured out.

Faith: He likes AmazonWarrior... what happens when he reacts badly to the fact that I know him. And you knew who I was and that I've lived under 30 minutes from him this whole time. What happens?

Daniels: I think the sooner you tell him the better. Stop playing with him and get it over with.

Daniels: To be honest... I'm getting a little annoyed.

Faith: What?

Daniels: I can't tell if you actually care about Gideon or if you're just toying with him.

"Lawrence! Get in here!" I tore my eyes away from the soft glow of my laptop screen with a slight eye roll as flair. Name Partner Bob Loblaw was shouting across the hall instead of asking his secretary to nicely call me in.

I didn't have the time to chit-chat with the office sleazeball. I needed to explain to Garrett the situation. I wanted to tell him that I look forward to every text- every phone call with Giddy. I had my doubts, but none of them were in regards to my feelings for Giddy.

Ugh, I sound like a pansy.

I pressed my thumb and pointer finger to the bridge of my nose just before another loud shout echoed throughout the office. Heads turned from down the hall, including Garrett's.

I shoved myself away from my desk and made my way to Bob's lavish wood-trimmed office. I stood in the doorway, with the eyes of everyone in the office on me as I drummed my fingers along my thighs waiting to be motioned into the room.

His graying hair was slicked back with so much oil that I could practically see myself from here in the reflection.

Instead of entering into the office fully, as he wanted, I paused just a foot away from the door.

"You wanted to see me, Sir?" I asked innocently. I lifted my black stiletto and crossed my ankle behind the other. Without looking up from his paperwork, Bob rudely pointed to the chairs in front of his desk.

I rolled my eyes again, knowing he wouldn't see the annoyance threatening to jump off my face and strangle the stubby old man. I decided against sitting and stood behind the chair.

"Do you like not doing as your told?" He asked, still not giving me his attention.

Do you like being a smellfungus?

"I'm not sure I know what you're talking about," I quipped, lifting an eyebrow. I knew everyone continued to watch the interaction through the glass walls, by the way the copiers office chit chat were still absent. Bob finally looked up from his files to see me standing instead of being seated as he asked.

"The Brewer case. I told you to have it in by Monday, and it is Monday. Where is it?"

Where you left your proper etiquette.

"I gave it to Beth to give to you this morning," I said as I glanced behind me at the petite secretary. Her knowing smile radiated through the glass wall. I wasn't sure why she felt the need to play games with me, but it wasn't going to work.

"Beth!" He shouted her name in a similar manner that he used with me moments before.

A small smirk danced on my lips thinking about what would happen once he found out this girl failed to deliver the paperwork.

My wandering eyes found Garrett watching the situation from his cubicle. My amused expression faded once our eyes connected. I still needed to talk to him about Giddy. I couldn't have him telling him out of bad faith.

Without acknowledging the slim blonde swaying through the doorway to answer her boss' call, I slipped past her.

"Miss Lawrence, where are you going? I need that case file!" Bob shouted after me. I neglected to face him as I shouted over my shoulder, "Ask blondie!"

I didn't have to turn around to know what Bob's expression looked like; the veins in his forehead were most likely about to burst like old pipes.

I walked past Garrett, giving him a quick glance. His eyebrows shot up followed by his chin as his eyes watched me walk by.

The break room was full of associates pouring coffee and talking about their cases so I decided the restroom was the next best thing.

My stilettos clicked on the tile once I entered into the modernly decorated room. I glanced around at the black counters and gold walls, waiting for Garrett. I hoped he received the signal.

My sweaty palms rested on the counter as I took my appearance in. The freckles on my nose were peeking through my foundation that I had put on this morning. Once I finished speaking with him I would need to apply some again.

The black door to the ladies' room opened to reveal a very serious Garrett. I had never seen him this way before and it reminded me of Gideon's brooding nature. My hands fell to my hips when I saw that he locked the door.

"Is that necessary?" I asked once he turned fully towards me.

"Yes, because you've been avoiding me for weeks. Answer my question." He said taking a step towards me. His dark grey suit and purple tie stood out against the grainy gold textured wall. I opened my mouth to answer, but ironically, he cut me off.

"My brother has been through too much to be dragged around by you. He's a mess right now. Do you even care about him?"

I allowed his words to sink in.

"Yes, and I'll tell him. I just need to figure out how."

"Oh uh, hey, Giddy, by the way, I know you in real life, but I'm too much of a-"

"I care about him," I cut him off mid sentence before he misrepresented how I felt about Gideon... again.

"Then tell him." Garrett pointed at the floor as if he were scolding me-as if he demanded obedience. I crossed my arms and lifted my right brow.

"I will, but if you tell him before I get the chance, you'll regret it," I said in a steady voice. It was the same tone I used against opposing counsel. Instead of the reaction I was accustomed to, Garrett took another step towards me as his lips spread into a full-on grin.

"You are something else." He let out a small chuckle.

We both stood there in silence. I was afraid that he would tell Gideon before I had the chance. I didn't want to lose him. He was my best friend. Everyone that I was close to, I was forced to leave behind in New York when I moved us here to Atlanta.

"I just don't want to mess this up before we've even had a chance, " I practically whispered, breaking the silent cloud between us.

" I like you, Faith, so I hope you already didn't mess it up when you decided to string him along for over a year."

"That wasn't my-"

When he cut me off, my eyes fell to the floor.

"It doesn't matter what your intentions are. Just tell him before it's too late." His tone changed yet again, but this time his expression was unreadable.

What if I already messed up? I asked myself in a slight panic.

"Do you think it's already too late?" I asked, shifting my eyes from the floor to meet Garrett's dilated pupils. A pained expression overcame his already intense stare. He shoved his left hand into the pockets of his dress pants before answering.

"He's in love with a strong, beautiful woman, and he doesn't even know it... but maybe the reason why you haven't told him is because you don't feel the same way. In that case, just break it off with him," He said softly before turning away, shaking his head. He wasn't going to let me respond. He unlocked the latch to the door, but before he could push it open, I spoke.

"You're wrong."

He nodded over his shoulder before leaving me alone in the women's restroom with nothing but my shaky breath.

Garrett's words replayed in my head like a broken record. The bizarre conversation had been all over the place and so was his stance on my relationship with Giddy. One moment he was supportive and the next, he was telling me that I should break it off.

It didn't make sense.

After I composed myself, I made my way to the comfort of my office where my phone laid on my desk. The notification light was flashing in the corner of the black screen.

I grabbed it and double-tapped on the black surface to see a missed call on the lock screen. My heart practically jumped out of my chest at the thought of it being from Gideon.

**Missed call from Mom**

I let out the breath that I had been holding as I dialed my voicemail to listen to the message she left.

"You have two new voice messages. First message."

"Hi, sweetheart. Just wondering when you were coming up to see me and your father. I know you're at work. Call me back when you can. I love you, baby."

"Next voice message."

"Hey, I'm really sorry for...everything. Just call me back."
