"II"
After receiving a text from her brother that only said pack meeting between busses, Kara made her way towards the destination. She arrived later than everyone else, when Lydia was speaking:
"Oh, I'm so done with teenage boys." The strawberry blonde began, smirking when she saw Kara. "But I know someone who can ask out a freshman."
"Who?" Stiles asked stupidly. "Me, dipshit. And by the way, Lydia, I won't do it." Kara responded. Kira leaned over, whispering in her ear: "Lydia is having a fake party to get Liam to the lake house for the full moon."
The younger Stilinski cringed. "No thanks. I'd rather nod ask the asshole who made me pay a hundred bucks for a new pump to a party, fake or not." She snapped, gesturing to the device that was clipped to the waistband of her jeans. Her brother looked at it skeptically. "Has it actually pumped any insulin?" He asked. She shook her head. "No, not since before last night." She answered, and he looked deep in thought.
"Scott's asthma went away after he was bitten. Maybe your diabetes will do the same?" He hypothesized. She shrugged. "Maybe."
Lydia was quick to change the subject. "Kara, please? It's just one night. You don't even have to talk to him. You just need to ask him." She pleaded. When Kara sighed, nodding reluctantly, the banshee grinned and clapped her hands excitedly. "Yay! Makeover time!" She chirped, and dragged the brunette away.
—
A half hour later, Lydia had turned Kara into a model version of her former self: her long dark hair was curled, her lips were painted a cherry red, and she wore a dress the same color, one so short that she felt like she continuously had to tug it down. On her feet were a pair of Lydia's Mary-Jane heels.
"Aw, Kare! You look so good!" Squealed the older girl, covering her mouth with her hand. Kara rolled her whiskey-colored eyes and followed Lydia's lead, strutting out of the bathroom with an air of confidence.
She spotted Liam at the bottom of the stairs and slowly walked down, taking one step at a time. When she reached the bottom, her ankle turned, pitching her forward. She prepared herself to hit the floor; instead, she collided with Liam's body.
"I guess you really fell for me, huh?" He joked, reminding her that he was still holding her upright. She quickly removed herself from his arms and straightened. Her hands smoothed out the dress.
"There's a party at my friend's lake house tonight. Do you want to go?" She asked dryly. He smiled at her, a faint blush on his cheeks, and nodded. "Yeah, um, sure. That sounds fun. You look- you look really pretty, by the way, Kara." He replied, stuttering. She ignored the compliment and pulled a scrap of paper and a pen out of her bag, scribbling down Lydia's address. She pressed it into his palm.
"I'll pick you up at seven." She told him, then turned around and strutted down the hallway, leaving him wide-eyed and gaping.
—
That night, Kara stood in front of the floor-length mirror, gazing at her reflection like it might have leapt out and hit her. She expected to look different, feel different because of her first full moon, but she was still the same girl she was a few days ago— caramel-colored eyes, long brown hair, pale skin dotted with moles and freckles, and an exceptional attitude.
At least, she thought she was the same, although she knew that after that night, nothing would ever be quite like it was.
A knock on her door brought her out of her thoughts. It was Stiles, with a sheepish smile on his face. He held out his arms for a hug, and she gratefully stepped into the embrace.
"Are you scared?" He asked quietly. She shook her head against his chest, his heartbeat abnormally loud in her ears. "Of course you're not. You'd need feelings for that." He joked. She cracked a smile. "Let's go. Kira's waiting for you in the car." He told her, then left the room. She gave herself one final glance in the mirror before following after him.
Just like Stiles had said, Kira's car was parked in the driveway. Kara slid into the passenger seat, greeted with a worried smile.
"Are you ready?" Asked the kitsune.
"As I'll ever be."
—
The electronic music pumping through the car's speakers, despite being at a low volume, made Kara cringe. "Can you turn it down?" She and Liam, who sat in the backseat, asked at the same time; she looked quickly over her shoulder at him, meeting his eyes. A bead of sweat ran down the side of his face. Kira, having heard wrong, said, "Turn it down?" and did just that.
They pulled up to the lake house after a long ramble about Lydia's dead grandmother from the kitsune. The trio, led by Kara and tailed by Liam, filed through the front door. Kira shut it and locked it behind them, whispering "Sorry!"
Liam looked at Kara with betrayal in his blue eyes as she sidled up to her brother. His expression seemed to scream, You were in on this?
"What is this?" He demanded. Stiles answered, "Think of it as an intervention." to which Scott stated, "You have a problem, Liam, and we're the only ones who can help."
"Werewolf,"
"Werecoyote,"
"Banshee,"
"Fox?" Liam questioned, pointing at Kira. She smiled awkwardly. "Kitsune. But fox works!"
He turned to the younger Stilinski next. "Werewolf?" She shrugged. "Probably." Despite her confusing answer, he looked at Stiles. "What about you?" He asked.
"Well, for a little while, I was possessed by an evil spirit. Very evil." The human replied, causing Kara to stifle a laugh with the heel of her hand. "What are you now?" Liam pressed. Her brother shrugged, much like she had. "Better," he replied.
She was beginning to feel the effects of the full moon, especially in her anger and hearing. She tuned out the other's speaking and heard only their heartbeats, their breathing, and her own, until Liam abruptly started shouting. Suddenly, an indescribable sound was practically pounding in her head, and both she and Liam dropped to their knees, holding their ears and clawing at the floorboards. "Stiles!" She howled, fumbling for her brother while scratching at everything she could reach. The brunette felt someone, probably Scott, drag her away, until she was being chained to a pillar in Lydia's boathouse, next to Liam.
Kara strained against the chains in a state of mind completely different from her own as she snarled, mouth full of canines. Then, out of nowhere, Kira swung a boat paddle, hitting both new betas in the head. The brunette and Liam collapsed; she landed with her face smushed against his chest, half on top of him.
—
She rode her bike to the station to bring her father dinner. With a paper In'n'Out bag, she burst through the door, running straight into Deputy Parrish, who muttered a rushed 'sorry' and left. She continued inside and saw, oddly enough, her brother, with a tan boy only a few inches shorter than he was. Kara placed the bag on her father's desk, then walked up to her brother.
"Stiles!" She called. "Why didn't you take me 'camping' with you? I love Mexico!" Both boys turned around at the sound of her voice. The unknown boy's eyes widened upon seeing her, and he rushed up to her, taking her shoulders in his hands.
"Paige! Oh my god, how are you alive?" He demanded with a bright grin. She pushed his hands off of her, backing uptowards Stiles. "Uh, not Paige." She muttered. Turning to her brother, she whispered, "Stiles, who is that?"
"Um, that may or may not be Derek Hale."
—
Her eyes opened, irises a brilliant gold, looking up into Liam's, whose own were their usual sky-blue. She gasped and shoved away from him. She found herself in the middle of the woods with her jeans torn in several places, surrounded by trees. Scott knelt in front of her, both hands out in a peaceful gesture.
"Kara, calm down. Kara. Karina." He growled, the use of her full name along with his glowing red eyes sufficient in calming her down. When her claws and fangs retracted, the alpha moved aside, revealing Chris Argent, who cracked a smile.
"Hey, kiddo." He said as she struggled to stand by herself. Although she hated to need help, she let Liam wrap an arm around her waist and pull her up. She swatted away afterward, facing Scott and Chris again.
"What happened?" She asked. Mr. Argent chuckled and threw his arm over her shoulder while they walked back to the main house.
"Well, for starters, you ran into a few trees, then rolled down a hill." He teased, both the banter and the girl reminding him of Allison.
Later that night, when Kara was strapped safely in the backseat of the jeep, asleep, with Liam in the passenger seat, Stiles drove them home. It was silent until Liam spoke up:
"Has she always been like this?" He asked. Stiles glanced at him out of the corner of his eye. "Like what?" The beta shrugged. "Closed off, angry. Was she ever, I don't know, normal?" He continued. It was the elder Stilinski's turn to shrug.
"She used to be the most loving, trusting, and affectionate kid in the world." He replied
"What happened?"
"The world happened."
The ending sucks but whatever. I actually love this chapter
