Chapter Two

"Why are you so fond of my mother, Princess?" Aegon appeared in his doorway making the princess flinch for a split-second then throw a death glare his way.

"Seven hells, Aegon! You really eavesdropped on everything?"
She spat out the words at the white haired prince who was leaning against his door with his arms crossed and a devilish smirk on his face.

"So? Is there something that you wanna hide from me?" He stood up and took a step towards her.
"I'm just interested in what you seek from my dear mother, both your parents hate our entire family, why would you be any different from them? After all, The Rogue Prince is your father and now that whore of my sister of mine is your step-mother." He continued.

"I'm nothing like any of them, even though you cannot see that. I wouldn't waste my time on someone like you to prove it, but I see that you're nothing like your mother as well."

"I am my mother's reflection, believe it or not, all her life she had spent to make me the way she wanted me to be.
As soon as my father's grave is cold, take his place and do not resent your step-mother because if she would ever get the throne, the end of my family would come with it."

"All lies, Aegon. Rhaenyra is the heir, and neither you nor the common folk can change that.
She isn't a cruel person, you have to at least admit that, nor mad to murder her entire family because of some seat."

"Daemon would, he would do it without even blinking, what would Rhaenyra do about it? Sentence her husband to death for murdering some ?
I, myself, am a treat to the throne for her. If I were to become king, I would just let her have Dragonstone and live there in peace after bending the knee to me and recognize me as the true ruler."

"You're no true ruler, Aegon. You're just a drunk who never wished for the throne but his entire life lived in fear.
None of it will happen that way, I may assure you on my mother's grave that father won't do any of those."

The Targaryen Princes narrowed his eyes and sighed hoping the Princess was right.
"Also heard that you wanna remain here, the Queen won't do much since Daemon hates her guts but…"

"But what?" She asked, fearing what answer might Aegon give.
Something that she would regret accepting but it deserved taking the risk if that meant she would be able to remain in King's Landing.

"I might have an idea, if you agree to follow my terms of course."

"God's sake, I'd rather die than listen to any ideas of yours." The Princess exhaled.

"You might not know this but there's a reason your father hates my mother so much."

"And what would be that reason? What is there to hate about her?"

"Ahem. He coughed. If you say…
I won't tell you if you don't agree to the proposal my mother will impose tonight at dinner. That's the only way you can remain here."

"What!? Who is she trying to marry me with?"
She knew that it was him, of course it had to be him. Why him out of everyone?

"Well…"

"Fine, but how are you gonna make it work?"

"My mother and your step-mother were lovers in their adolescence, until my grandfather forced my mother to comfort the king after his late wife's death. He had to wed your mother at first but he refused and took my mother instead because my grandfather's plan worked. This family is really weird if you ask me. He found much more comfort in a more age-appropriate Alicent Hightower rather than the child that your late mother was back then."

"Huh? She breathed out confused.
"How do you know all of these? Why haven't I heard any of these until now, and from you out of everyone? Are you lying to me, Aegon?"

"Absolutely not, I have my source which I cannot put in any danger to let anyone discover her name."

"So it's a she?"

"That's all I can tell you."

"Can you tell me more about the past and their relationship? I want to know everything."

"Of course…shall we?" He pointed with his arm towards his chamber welcoming the princess inside. She knew the risk of entering the tyrant chambers all alone but had to take the risk to know everything, so she walked past him inside his chambers settling herself down on a chair.

"The bed is much more comfortable, I won't bite…unless you want me to"
His grin formed once again on his lips after picking the two glasses of wine he just filled, offering her one.

She shook her head in sign of no.

"Oh come on, it's Arbor Gold, said to be the finest wine in all the Seven Kingdoms, known for its sweet and delicious flavor, not to mention its quaffability."

"I don't drink." She quickly responded. Of course she drinks, but wouldn't drink with someone like Aegon who would offer from one glass, many more others to follow.

"One glass won't kill you, princess."
He said as he placed the glass into her hand then also settled himself down in his bed.

"So, continue the story, why do Daemon and Alicent hate so much? You never got to that part."

"Didn't the fact that Rhaenyra and mother were lovers made it clear already?" He sighed
"Alright, after the wedding of my parents, Daemon took the life of his first wife, Rhea Royce, in order to wed Rhaenyra. Of course Viserys didn't let such a thing happen.
Daemon took Rhaenyra to a brothel so anyone would know that he was the one who deflowered Rhaenyra, no lord would have married her anymore, meaning that Viserys would marry her to him, of course that wasn't the case because we both know she had married Laenor later on who had other interests than womens.
Such a fool.
Anyways, Daemon didn't do it that night but made it seem like it, instead Criston did it.
Shocking, isn't it?
The word had spread fast enough to also come to the ears of my parents.
Father closed an eye after my mother convinced him such a thing didn't happen, she had confronted Rhaenyra who of course lied to her face.
When my mother found out from Criston, she felt betrayed and that's how they started hating each other."

"So…your mother finds interest in girls?"

"For gods sake, Visenya, is that what shocks you the most from the story? Not the fact that Rhaenyra and Criston did it?"

"You just fucked a servent a few hours ago, don't think yourself better than her."

"Whatever, you talk way too much about my mother and I'm sick of it, not even Aemond talks that much about her and believe me, the boy would do anything for her."

"And where does Aemond spend most of his time?"

"Forget about him, he's extremely boring. What he does all day is train with Criston.
Shall we perform our bedding duties now, dear niece? Better now than later, am I right?"

"Better never. Marrying you doesn't mean that we'll have to share a bed. We'll just pretend to be a happy couple and that's all.
You've been useful for a bit then you've made a fool of yourself once again."

The Princess stood up leaving her glass, untouched, on the table then leaving the room.

"Visenya!"
Aegon whines with her leaving, annoyed.
"Have I told her all those things for nothing?"

Visenya could have cared less about Aegon's hurt ego, she was now headed to the training grounds.
Maybe Aemond could be a better match, hopefully he rambles a little less about whatever Aegon thought would happen between them, and more about his mother which she couldn't help it, but grow fond of.

From the balcony, she had noticed the one-eyed prince dueling with Sir Criston, she could have cared less of him but she had to see if he was more fit for her hand than his brother who already made a terrible impression towards her.
As she came outside to the training grounds, all the eyes of the servants had fallen upon her and followed her until she got to the prince who had just defeated Criston Cole for one more time.
She was indeed breath-taking possessing the well-known Valyrian genes, with long white hair and lilac eyes that bewitched anyone who stared for way too long into them. With rosy pale skin and crimson lips.

"Hm" Aemond's attention turned towards her as well as she seemed like the only path of color through a field of dead flowers.
"My dear niece, what brings you here?" The young prince asked, as she approached him, he slightly bowed his head and took her by the hand, leading it to his lips and pressing a gentle kiss against it.

She had to find a way to charm him in order for them to be on good terms when their betrothal would be announced, how she wouldn't accept to marry Aegon, knowing what may end up of her, he didn't seem like a bad man but good was far away from what she could describe him as.
She still hasn't forgotten either that Aemond was the one who had stolen her rightful dragon, but she had to close an eye this time, revenge might follow later.

"Uncle" She bowed her head, a smile taking over her facial expression.
"We had just arrived and I wanted to explore around since you well know, I'm unfamiliar with this place."

"Shall I present you around?"

"Will you give me this honor?"

"Of course, only so you won't get lost." He had let her wrap her arm around his and so both started heading away from the training grounds where there wasn't much to see beside dirt and mud.

"My daughter will never wed that drunken son of yours!" Daemon's voice could be heard even in the hallways at how loud the man was yelling when Alicent came up with the same idea that Aegon told Visenya about, if the two weren't alike, at least they thought alike. And with good reason Daemon didn't want to betroth the two, who would be a fool to wed his daughter with someone like Aegon Targaryen who would treat the one he marries like nothing more than a piece of meat.

"Daemon, calm down, people will hear!" Rhaenyra protested while gripping into his arm.

"Let them! As if I care." He spat out the words full of anger at the offer of Alicent Hightower.

The princess didn't hesitate anymore and bursted into the room making the three of them turn their attention towards her.
"Father, Mother, My Queen." She bowed her head down showing her respects to each one of them in order, at the sight of Alicent, her heart slowly began to race of emotion.

"I don't agree with anything this serpent has gotten into your head. You will be wedded to who I found more fit for your status and happiness.
Her son will only ruin your life, my child." Daemon had finally calmed down.

"I will marry her son, but not Aegon, I shall wed Aemond which I see more fit for my hand. If only her grace agrees." The princess replied to her father.

"Why do you want to remain so badly in this place full of poisonous snakes my dear child, what I have offered to you wasn't enough that you want to leave us and join this cursed family?" Daemon placed his hand on her shoulder squeezing it harshly, clearly annoyed by his daughter's words but of course he wouldn't put a show in front of Alicent Hightower to give her the satisfaction she desires so badly, he would take this matter later on, in private.

"The Queen will never bring up the matter about Rhaenyra's children's legitimacy, how we'll have our houses united once again coexisting in peace, father. Take this opportunity."

Daemon glanced towards Rhaenyra, almost waiting for her approval and that's how it was, with a nod of his wife's head.
Even though she was happy that she would remain here, It pained her to the core, how her father didn't even cared for what she wished but what Rhaenyra wanted, she realized that she was now much more important for him than one of his many children.
She was now betrothed to Aemond Targaryen which she barely knew, who knows if he's worse than his brother, had she made the wrong choice, she had to take the risk. After all, what can be worse than Aegon?
She would anyway ignore both, because the one she really seeked for herself was the Queen herself.
