Taeyang

There’s only four words I could say to myself right now.

I should fucking die.

I should throw myself in a werewolf territory and let them chew me into pieces, or even let the hunters have the honour to decapitate me. I deserved every torture devices ever invented tested on me. I should suffer for my entire immortal life for initiating pain on my own mate, heck I would not even complain.

Even when I were to be trialled by the council, there was not enough reason for me, as it was only one.

To say that I was pissed by Kang Daesung was an understatement. I was beyond mad to the point that the monster within me was fighting me for release. He was angered and wished to bath in the blood of the one who made me feel such way. I refused to taint my hands with blood of the innocent, and my best friend on top of that.

Of course Daesung was partly to blame. No vampires or any other shifters in that case will enjoy seeing other male holding their mates while looking at them with eyes filled with love, the way only mates should have. No males will appreciate other males’ scent on their mate, even the smell was small as a friction of dust. It was enough to trigger a lifelong fight. Yes, we’re territorial, and as much as it seemed absurd it only proved how important mates were. There will be no logical explanation to say, it was sacred, a divinely intervention for any mythical being.

That being said, I could never forgive him if he ever possess a kind of feeling for Yuna that he should not have, which I was positive that he did. Daesung was an old friend of mine, and I can read him like an open book and vice versa. It was fun before, we used to tease him whenever one of the high ranked daughters asked him out, and he’ll return late at night claiming that he was close to being a victim of rape. Now, not so much. I noticed those disgruntled look he had or even despising stare he gave me whenever he thought I was not looking. I knew he respected me as a friend and his Prince, but it rivalled to his thoughts of Yuna.

Daesung never held interest for any of the girls, vampire and human, yet he have had some for my Yuna? I would not be surprise if he often queried the Moon Goddess for the doubt that I would ever be a good mate to Yuna.

I strengthened my grip on the wheel as I tried to control the inner monster that was still in a raging fury. The only thing that stopped him for a brief matter of time was when he saw the state of his mate, halfway to Hades’ realm. He was instantly quietened down as the fury turned into worry, he pushed me to her, wanting to hold her close as we often did in our wildest dreams.

It torn me apart when I could have possibly everything in this world but not the one that mattered the most.

I looked at the side mirror to see the reflection of the palace was getting smaller as the hollow feeling in my heart grew. I know pain will follow soon after in just a matter of time.

My car speeded out of the palace’s massive gate, the guards who were patrolling bowed their heads to youngest Prince probably wondering why he returned after choosing to stay out of the Vampire realm for so long. I stopped just at the intersection, looking at my rear-view mirror. Two small headlights were making its way to me and before it reached the gate, I raced my gears to the left road, going the opposite way I knew the car behind me would go.

It was an hour worth of travelling but I was way past my speed limits, not that anyone would care. I think I’ll reach the other side in no time.

It was bustling like the usual, the highway that functioned as a bridge connecting Vampire realm and that of Human’s was packed with cars going back and forth from the portal, an invisible force that separated the two worlds. At the end of the barrier, stood four guard towers, two on each sides of the roads, where the royal guards were assigned to keep in track who came in and out of the portal. As medieval as it sounded, they were nothing less. The towers were equipped with world’s best technology, and only the best staff. Unlike humans, we did not use our weapons on each other, instead we revolutionised them together. We could take the entire human species if we wanted to. Instead we didn’t and let them continue on their fetish over aliens.

My forehead glistened with cold sweats as the numbness tugged on my heart. Letting a grunt out, I sped on, expertly manoeuvring past cars. The barriers were clear as I drove closer, a small hope unconsciously formed in my heart. Maybe I get to pass the portal before it went down…

But no, the uncomfortable feeling grew into stinging pain embedded in my chest. My body convulsed and my limbs went weak. It was hard to keep my eyes on the road when my head was pounding harshly. I could practically felt my blood rushing and my heart beat erratically as I tried to gain control over my own body. In the midst of the torture, I accidentally hit on the accelerator, nearly colliding with the car on the lane next to me. The blue SUV halted to stop when I went into its lane, causing the other cars to stop before they hit me. I clenched my jaw and turned sharply on the wheel, resulting my car to swerve to the right, successfully crashing on the concrete partition.

The strong impact caused my body to lurch forward harshly but I was saved by the airbag before my face could smash on the steering wheel.

I stayed head still for a while, feeling lightheaded by the crash and the separation pain that caused it. My ears were ringing and I indistinctly heard the small grunts coming from my own mouth. Thank goddess I was not human. I could have gotten worse injuries or even a concussion if I were a mortal, but I was not exempted from getting minor headaches from it. I should have worn the seatbelt.

The knock on the window got me snapping my head up, grumbling when the headache erupted at the back of my head. I instinctively laid my forehead back on the airbag as the knocks became more frantic.

When I felt a little bit better, I palmed on my side and opened the door. The cold night wind rushed in, easing my throbbing head.

“Are you okay? Are you hurt?” Someone asked. With my enhanced hearing, I heard a commotion not so far from where I was.

“Youngbae, are you hurt?” He tried again and reached over to me, looking for any sign of pain. I swatted his hands away.

“I’m fine, Tablo.” I grimaced and raised my head. His worried eyes skimmed on me, still trying make sure that I’m okay. I mentally rolled my eyes, always the worrier.

“Is it bad?” I asked, knowing he understood perfectly that I was referring to my car. He glanced to the front trunk, smoke seeped out of where the dent formed and floated into the air.

He winced and I sighed. Damn, I loved this car.

“What the hell were you thinking?”

I set my lip into a thin line as his eyes started to darken. He opened his mouth and started his ramble.

“You’re lucky I saw you before it happens.” He glowered. “You’re lucky I got here in time. It could be fatal.”

“I am no mortal.”

“But you’re not immune to death.”

Pushing down the monster inside me from lashing out because of his disrespect, I waved my hand dismissively.

“Yeah, thanks to you.”

His face was grim before he asked in a low voice. “What. Happened?”

I sighed, getting out of the car. Not turning around to the crowds behind me, I stiffened. Tablo noticed and he nodded knowingly.

“I got it covered. The guards are holding them back.” He said and heaved a sigh. “This was not what I expected. I'm on duty.”

I nodded. Tablo was a Marshal, working under the Palace to watch over the portals. He was one of my oldest friend and we basically grew up together. His ability was one that my Father considered as highly beneficial, so he was posted as a High Rank to keep an eye on the portals. Of course he was placed at the portal closest to the castle, obviously Father had thought of this over. He wanted to be the first to know should there were any surprise attack from the enemies.

After all, Tablo’s ability was one of a kind; he was able to get a vision of a near future and reduce the force of a first impact.

“I was talking to my daughter Haru on the phone when I got a glimpse of your accident. I rushed here.” He sighed and shot me an annoyed look. “I deserve an explanation.”

I grunted. He could be really stubborn if he wanted to.

“Don’t whine on me little boy, Prince or not, you’re younger than me.”

I rolled my eyes.

“I found her.” My answer was short. My voice strained as my mind flooded with thoughts about the black haired girl. I met his eyes and they softened, he knew about me and her, how both of us had to suffer, the star-crossed lovers whose tales held more catastrophic ending than Shakespeare’s tragic plays.

He nodded quietly, letting my unspoken sorrow lingered in the air. After a brief moment of silence, he dug into his pocket and chucked the car keys to my face.

“Here, I don’t know what your plan is, but crash my car and I’ll make you pay twice the price.” He warned and I cracked a smile. I grabbed the keys from him and gave him a side hug.

“Thanks man.”

“Now go.” He ushered me away. “I have a mess to clean.” He said in mock serious.

I chuckled and walked away, leaving Tablo to deal with my car. I will just buy a new one.

I had a more important thing to attend to.

I know I have a lot of characters as it is, but I can't help but to include Tablo and his daughter ❤

PS: I'm suck at writing accident scene.
PPS: the prologue has been edited. Go ahead, take a look and tell me what you think ;)
